Beth, I’ll leave this in your hands. Josef said. He glanced pointedly at her left finger.

Thank you. She said calmly.

Josef left the apartment wondering if he had a wife.

Beth. Mick said desperately. I’m so glad to….

She held her hand up. Mick wait. You can’t show up here as if the last four years haven’t happened.

I was a prisoner. I couldn’t get here sooner.

Why were you a prisoner? Why did you go after her?

I had to Beth. So we could move forward.

Beth was incredulous. So we could move forward???? Why did you go by yourself? Josef told me you insisted on not having any help. He had no idea where you were.

Mick sighed. Cynthia lied to me. Coraline was already dead and kidnapping me was her revenge. Lance helped her trap me but she’s the one who kept me prisoner for years. I was chained in silver, we moved every three months I’m not sure Josef could have found me that’s if he was looking.

How did you escape?

We were getting ready to move again and Cynthia hired a new guard. He forgot to lock the chain on my feet and I was able to get away while he made his rounds.

A month ago. I’ve been so weak I’ve had to hunt to have the strength to travel.

Beth realized this coincided with the party Josef had for his European clients. He introduced her to vampire society and Cynthia must have heard about Josef’s new vampire wife. Cynthia had been destroying Mick physically now she wanted to do it emotionally.

Mick we can’t pick up like nothing happened. It’s been four years a lot of things have happened.

Josef told me he turned you two years ago. You must have spent the first year learning how to be a vampire. Do you really think this vampire you’re dating could love you as much as I do?

Beth sighed. I’m not just dating someone and showed him her engagement ring.

Josef was the one who had been here. He sired me. He loved me. She also didn’t know what Josef wanted her to say. She knew he loved Mick like a brother and there was no going back from a marriage. All she said was. Yes Mick. We’re engaged.


Mick looked like he’d been staked. Why didn’t he tell me?

Mick he wanted to hear your explanation. He was also afraid I would go running into your arms. If I left him why should he ever tell you? He loves me enough to let me go if that’s what I want.
