I liked this show, I think it is as good or better than any of the new shows this year. IMO there is some great chemistry with the actors and this episode keep my interest. Yes, I found like many of us, things wrong, but if I wanted true reality (and not taking about reality TV shows), all I have to do is watch the news or watch some medical channel. For me, I like to be entertained, and not pick every thing that is wrong with a show, I caught myself doing that with the TRs, because I wanted it to perfect. Guess what TV is far from perfect, so starting next week I look at this show has how TV series should be looked at, entertaining, and still send out a strong important message of organ donation.

And, Emerald I loved your last paragraph on your post. Okay, does everyone have their tomatoes and stones, because I am sure I am going to get lambasted for this one. I loved Moonlight, I will always love Moonlight, that's why I still love this site, and if real life didn't bite me on my arse, I would be here more. But if I hear one more question to Alex about Moonlight, when he is tring so hard for this part and show, and working for people to be aware of organ donation, I am freaking going to lose it. Moonlight fan's if you don't like this show, fine, if it is not your "cup of tea", no problem, but if you are comparing this show to Moonlight (oranges and apples), no fair. A question for all the people who will never watch this show again, if Jason and Sophia become doctors on this series, would you watch it? Emerald hit Alex's performance perfect, I loved him in this show, but he has Alex coming out in this part, and as long as the fans of Moonlight keep Alex thinking and hoping that Mick is going to rise out the ashes, I will bet he can never let it go.

A guestion for all of us Moonlight fans, if Jason, Sophia, got new roles in TV series, would we be as critical? Again if you honestly hated or this wasn't you cup of tea, fine, but please don't compare it to Moonlight! These actors have to move on, but that doesn't mean we can not enjoy "what was Moonlight".

I posted this on VLF..edit to add that later comments seem more positive than the eairlier ones:

I loved it and I never watch medical shows! :woohoo:

I recently rewatched the first few episodes of The Mentalist...the cast had not melded together yet and they were not very comfortable with their roles...Now they are a great team.

I have to say how hugely surprised I am that folks are so hard on a new show...no grace at all to work the bumps out.
I'm really scratching my head over this especially after losing Moonlight due to such a small audience. I guess I expected Moonlight/Alex fans to have MORE grace for his new show, not give up after the first episode.

Really, Moonlight had plenty of flaws,--> but we loved it.<--
I still cringe rewatching some of it.
The 'jumping' scenes and Mick's long stares out into nothingness..Mick's 'I'm a monster' got old before the end of the season...(50 years Mick, get a grip or find someone to kill you!)

But even with it's obvious flaws I loved the show and am delighted to have the story continue in fanfic.

I'm encouraging you all to watch Three Rivers for a while and give it a chance to grow on you.

Late to the party (internet issues...) but here are my thoughts.

I don't particularly care for medical dramas, have watched plenty to last me a lifetime, thanks! And my husband finds them distressing...so we don't normally tune in to such. Honestly, I wouldn't have bothered to watch, were it not for Alex.

I won't reiterate all the things that have been said here...I agree with much of it. After the ep, husband asked me, "Well? What did you think?" And honestly, what I think is that it's no better, and no worse, than a dozen other medical dramas I've watched in years past.

Somehow, after all the times in interviews I've heard Alex talk about having to practice, practice on hard medical terms, I wanted to giggle every time he came out with something like that. Pulled me out of believing his character, I'm afraid.

I do wish Alex all success with this, but they need to let Dr. Andy lose a little of the earnestness, and be more of a human being.

Will I be back next week, and weeks to come? Yeah, probably. I'll be interested to see the ratings numbers for this week, and even more interested to see the numbers for next week, to see if it's getting repeat viewers.

(And in answer to the question about watching Sophia and Jason in new television roles, I would certainly give Sophia a shot. And I'd gladly watch Jason doing his laundry or reading the telephone book.)

Early ratings not looking too good..

-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):

Football Night in America, Part One (NBC), Three Rivers (CBS)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:

The football match-up between San Diego and Pittsburgh led NBC to overnight Sunday victory, with a 1.9 rating point advantage over second-place Fox. Third overall in the metered markets was CBS, followed by ABC. Don’t forget that The CW no longer programs Sunday. And since San Diego was one of the teams on Sunday Night Football, chances are metered market ratings will increase once the West Coast markets are factored in.

Fox got a jump on the competition at 7 p.m., with a football overrun at a hefty 15.6 rating/26 share in the overnights in the 7 p.m. half-hour. That led into post-game The OT at a second-place 7.7/13 at 7:30 p.m. Over at CBS, competing granddaddy 60 Minutes was on the map with a healthy (and approximate) 10.0/17 from 7-8 p.m. Since CBS’ primetime line-up started a few minutes late, all individual program results are estimated.

Also at 7 p.m. was the season-premiere of America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC (#3: 4.7/ 8), and parts one and two of NBC pre-game show Football Night in America (3.3/ 5). One year earlier, veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos kicked-off with a slightly stronger 5.3/ 9.

NBC moved into the overnight winners circle at 8 p.m. care of part three of pre-game Football Night in America at an 8.4/13. That, of course, led into the San Diego/Pittsburgh match-up on Sunday Night Football at an approximate 11.7/18 for the primetime portion from 8:30-11 p.m. As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always approximate. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown for Sunday Night Football:

Sunday Night Football (NBC): San Diego vs. Pittsburgh
8:30 p.m.: 12.1/18 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 12.5/18 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 12.9/19 (#1)

10:00 p.m.: 10.9/17 (#1)

10:30 p.m.: 10.1/17 (#1)

Second behind football at 8 p.m. was ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (6.9/11), which is now attracting an older audience, followed by CBS’ The Amazing Race (6.4/10), and animated Fox sitcoms The Simpsons (5.9/ 9) and week two of The Cleveland Show (5.2/ 8), which built by 24 percent from the year-ago occupant King of the Hill (4.2/ 6 on Oct. 5, 2008). Considering The Simpsons increased by 28 percent from its year-ago overnight average (4.6/ 7), it is off the “winners” listing for both. As predicted, The Cleveland Show is the perfect fit out of The Simpsons and into Family Guy.

In series-premiere news, CBS medical drama Three Rivers was left at the starting gate, with a third-place 6.0/ 9 from 9-10 p.m. Although there was no loss off audience in the second half-hour, comparably that trailed ABC’s Desperate Housewives (#2: 9.2/14) by 35 percent. And it was down by an approximate 21 percent from the year-ago combination of the second-half of The Amazing Race and first half of Cold Case.

Capping off the 9 p.m. hour was Fox’s Family Guy (#4: 5.4/ 8), which was up by six percent in the overnights from one year earlier and is always a big draw among adults 18-49, and American Dad (#4: 4.1/ 6).

Second behind NBC’s football in the 10 p.m. hour was ABC’s Brothers & Sisters (6.8/11), followed by CBS’ relocated (and older skewing) Cold Case (6.6/11). What was concerning about the Cold Case season-opener last week was the depressed 2.1/ 6 among adults 18-49.

Ok so I'm not much into medical dramas with the exception of House. But let's face it, it just wasn't very good. Poor writing, how about they hire some of you guys. But I will continue to watch it because where else are you going to get Alex. I will always support him and who knows maybe the show will get better.

THANK YOU! I am agreeing with you so hard at the moment, well stated. :clapping: :worship:

It was almost like you could see Alex thinking behind the character, 'Can't mess this up, what if the fans don't follow me, what if they're not going to support the show, am I doing a good enough job here'. It was like you could sense how nervous he was. He was acting rather than just being the character. And I too am absolutely sick to death of hearing Alex being asked about Moonlight, seriously enough is enough. No wonder the guys a bundle of nerves, and his performance is being affected when it's 'Oh what about the Moonlight Fans, Andy Yablonski is no Mick St John, will the Moonlight Fans still support you' ad friggin nauseum. :witsend: Honestly, if I never hear the word Moonlight outside of the Fandom again, I will be more than happy.

And yes I absolutely will be returning next week to watch the show again. For all it's faults I did enjoy it, and I am looking forward to seeing how the show develops.

I recognize I am a little late to the party as well. And since this is a Moonlight not a Three Rivers board (not sure I would feel comfortable posting it there) I have to admit that while I liked this show, the only reason I will probably continue to watch it is because of Alex and my hoping to see more character development as the series progresses. When the show was over, I sort of felt the same way I did after I saw "Click." That feeling was it was good but no biggie. Not really what I would call "appointment television." And while I will stick with it for awhile, I am not sure that even Alex can keep me from Desperate Housewives unless there is a significant improvement. I really thought that Alex did better acting in the Criminal Minds episode.

I guess I just didn't see any "chemistry" jump out at me. I liked the donut part and thought it was cute and maybe a little tidbit for Moonlight fans. I really don't see any doctor going to bat for someone not having insurance although I did like that character. Maybe my age has made me too jaded. While all the actors (at least I think they were all on) got a chance on this episode, I felt it was a little too crowded for my tastes and I would have liked to have had fewer stories and a little more character development. And a few things with the pregnancy story - how could someone just jump to the top of the list? why was Alex's character delivering a baby? and the baby was way too big for a 28 weeker.

I didn't watch ER the first few or the last few years, but when I did watch it, they were somehow able to get in stories about the doctors as well as the patients. With all the donor and recipient family issues, not sure how much they are going to be able to fit in about the doctors? And that really is what I am interested in.

Thanks for letting me provide my comments. And yes I knew this wasn't going to be anything like Moonlight; seeing Alex in it didn't make me miss Moonlight any less.

Personally, I liked TR. Sure, it had it's down sides- I'm craving more characterization of the docs- but the premise is amazing, and I think the acting/writing were pretty good for a first ep. Remember, most ML fans got into it AFTER Fever. I think the numbers are disappointing, but there's not much we can do besides spread the word to change that. It probably has a lot to do with football- especially the fact that it was a big game for Steelers fans last night. I'm hoping that things will get better and better from here, and there's certainly the potential for that.

I'm at work and so this is using my BB so I'm limited as to what I can include. The overnights
are out on Tvbynumbers and its dismal.

To be fair they're up against tough competition but it is dead last with half of the 3rd place finisher in 18-49
Rating share and that will be their competition for most of the season.
