Alex's time at NIDA - an article

On a german board fever posted a link to a website that had a snippet about Alex' life at NIDA in it.
It seems to me that the article is based on an actual interview with Alex and doesn't reveal anything that Alex hasn't told him. So I thought it would be okay to post it here.

The site is by a person from Canberra writing about theatre and has a book out about how to get into acting. I thought it's interesting how Alex talked about his approach to acting, and how he got into acting in the first place.

I am tempted to speculate about his private life and what made him change his lifestyle and find his purpose in acting, but of course we won't do that here. But I love what he told us about his early life. I admire him for getting his act together and totally committing to something once he found it worth his time.

Thanks for the article. I'd heard most of that around the boards but never in a documented form.

You're right, Alex's private life is his own and he seems to avoid it (like on the Bonnie Hunt show). However, this article raises an interesting idea for me. I'm wondering if the reason Alex took the Dr. Andy role was not so much because Alex was so fascinated with the transplant world and Dr. Gonzo, but that he saw a kindred spirit in Andy. Andy had kind of checkered past but turned it all around - sort of like Alex.

Somehow, seeing him as the 'bad boy' in high school and college isn't too much of a stretch....

I know in his early roles he was credited as Alex O'Lachlan and is now going by Alex O'Loughlin, but are neither of those his real name? That's the impression I got from the article.....

Yeah, the name change thing intrigues me too, Dark... but it may just refer to the spellings?

And I'm not so sure he sounds like a true Bad Boy... maybe more a lost soul. It happens to teenagers and young people who haven't found their thing yet...

According to the article, he seemingly straightened right up, and became rather serious, as soon as he found his calling.
Which is wonderful and cool. For him. And for us who so enjoy him.

Becoming serious or perhaps passionate about his craft is something we've seen. And you're right, grace, until a person finds something to believe in or become passionate about, they can find themselves adrift. Alex, in that respect, is no different than the rest of us.
