Re: The Back-Up Plan, part 10 - SPOILERS
The only restriction on the DVD release date is that it cannot be released within 12 weeks of the theatrical release date (there was a recent row over the DVD release of Avatar in the UK that nearly resulted in it being pulled from a large cinema chain). Once the 12 week date has passed it comes down to the distributor and producer to decide on the best date. I presume they have all kinds of factors to take into consideration in making that decision - or they may just stick a pin in a calendar, who knows?

Alex is in a CBS film (BUP) and a CBS show (H50) so those far more crafty than I are probably working out what the best date for DVD release is. I'm sure they have all sorts of factors in mind....with H50 coming to TV in (probably late) September, getting Alex's face out again via a BUP DVD a few weeks ahead of H50's debut couldn't hurt.redwinter101 wrote:The only restriction on the DVD release date is that it cannot be released within 12 weeks of the theatrical release date (there was a recent row over the DVD release of Avatar in the UK that nearly resulted in it being pulled from a large cinema chain). They probably take into account what other movies are coming out on DVD at the same time - they'd prefer less 'competition' if they can get it.
Then again, maybe they're just good at playing darts.

So, I went to see it (again) today - and you're right, Grace - definitely Andy hair. And in the micro-second's attention I gave to J Lo in that scene, she too had slightly different hair, so I'm betting on a re-shoot. It's one of my favourite scenes so YAY on the reshoots!!!wpgrace wrote:Oh, btw... rant over and all... if any of y'all go back to see it...
What do you think? In the second cab scene? I think that was one of the scenes they reshot after 3R closed shop. Cos Alex has his shorter Andy hair in that cab, rather than the slightly longer Stan hair that he has in the rest of the movie.
Go see it, report back.
Good crowd in the cinema this afternoon - a lot of laughs...

dsr - I think you're correct that they'll want the dvd out a bit before H50 airs. Somehow, i won't even doubt that they might have a H50 promo on it. August does seem like a good time as red said. It's still playing in a dozen theatres here in Minneapolis and they aren't the 2 dollar specials. I'm guessing that in about a month, it will hit those theatres making the dvd a possibility about a month from that.darkstarrising wrote:Alex is in a CBS film (BUP) and a CBS show (H50) so those far more crafty than I are probably working out what the best date for DVD release is. We do not even HAVE $2-Special Theaters. So now that it's gone... it is JUST gone.
BUT snap Red! I thought that was Andy in that cab!!!
And I never thought to look at JLo to see how different she looked...

BUP played here (upstate New York) for 3 solid weeks in the multi-plex theatres, then dropped during the fourth week to the local $2 theatre. Now it's gone. Poof. Without a trace.r1015bill wrote:dsr - I think you're correct that they'll want the dvd out a bit before H50 airs. Somehow, i won't even doubt that they might have a H50 promo on it. I just checked the numbers. When BUP opened in the US, for the first two weeks it played on 3280 screens. During the third week, it dropped to 3003 screens. During the fourth week, 2497 screens. Last week, it was down to 1079 screens, roughly a third of the number it played initially. Even so, it's hanging in at #11 with a domestic take of ~$35.9 million. Not bad, considering how comparatively few screens it's now playing on.
Anyone have an idea of what the international take is?

Re: The Back-Up Plan, part 10 - SPOILERS
Got to go see it again today - with a friend who hadn't seen it. We had the theatre all to ourselves (it IS a college town & graduation was last weekend). my friend was howling with laughter through most of the film - she LOVED it. Then we saw Shrek - while we both enjoyed Shrek - she thought BUP was funnier. And I didn't see the post about the Stan/Dr Andy hair - so I can't report on that. It still says it will be showing here until Wed - but with the new Twilight coming out - this might be it's last week here. Definitely on my 'to buy' DVD when it comes out. Oh! and my friend was VERY suprised when I told her Alex was Australian - she thought he did a great job on the accent.

According to Box Office Mojo: http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=backupplan.htm the estimate worldwide up to and including today is $42.44m, of which $35.88m is US, the remainder, international.darkstarrising wrote:Anyone have an idea of what the international take is?

Latest box office (from boxofficemojo):
US: $36.46m
International: $15.47m
Total: $51.93m
The film's done well in the UK, Mexico and Russia in particular - and these numbers don't include a number of countries where the film has only recently opened, including Australia.

Well it's not gonna go much more in the US... it's gone from just about everywhere now. Darn!
Hopefully it'll bring in another... is it 20 million??... that it needs to be profitable.

Well, if the 1.5 times cost rule is true, then it's making profit from now on.wpgrace wrote:Well it's not gonna go much more in the US... it's gone from just about everywhere now. Darn!

Re: The Back-Up Plan, part 10 - SPOILERS
BUP is still showing at one of our movie theatres--6 times per day. Granted, this place is huge (30 separate theatres) but that still is encouraging.
As of last week, it was still playing at our local dine/drink/watch a movie place. (I am sure that there is a much better word for that sort of thing)
The best part of that? They have a HUGE neon sign out that kept displaying The Back-Up Plan in all it's pink glory. Alas, not playing there this week. This place only shows 5 movies at a time, so, that was a pretty respectable run.
