Re: Killing Time (Champagne Challenge #117) PG-13
Thanks for all the wonderful comments. You all realize that I consider it the highest of praise when you compliment my portrayal of my beloved Josef, right?
And I'll admit that my first instinct was that the clock was smashed to smithereens...in fact, there was a draft where that happened, but I think this worked better. And this is exactly why I have a beta...she makes everything work better.

Beautiful, Lucky - and ITA on the clock not getting smashed. That controlled rage is perfect for the moment.

A really fabulous picture of Josef. Interesting that it's the nurse who first notices that time isn't passing for Sarah, not him. Of course, he's too close to her to see.....
His control, how he keeps from giving in to rage, is downright terrifying. All that danger, hidden behind the calm mask. You can sure see why it would have such an effect on the nurse.
No more clocks .... the ending's perfect.

it's ironic, Lucky, but here you show us Josef in a very human moment. I particularly liked the line that "all it would cost him was time." the simple way you conveyed the concept that time was meaningless took my breath away.

I love how you take the story that was already there in the show and expand it to a very philosophical essay about the meaning of time and the meaninglessness of time. And the controlled rage of Josef is so very HIM! Such a sad story! This scene when he told Mick about Sarah was when I fell for Jason, hard. Made me watch the previous episodes in another light. I just love how you do him justice.
And eris, thanks for reminding me of that poem.

I agree. SO much more powerful to have him go against "typical" assumptions and simply stop the clock.......had me choking up.

I had to go looking for the poet, because I loved that poem so much. So for the record, it's by W. H. Auden, and the title is "Song IX" from 'Twelve Songs' (1936). It was reprinted under the title "Funeral Blues" in 'Tell me the Truth about Love' (1976).

This story is so sad but it's one of my favorites.
