"Alexi Volkov. What as unfortunate surprise" Josef said with grin. "Last time I saw you was in Monte when you managed to bankrupt a casino. You do know those establishments literally bleed money, so how you managed to screw that up is beyond me!"
"Times have changed old friend and it's been told that you have turned your back on who you are. Even eating human food!" he said with a grimace baring his fangs.
"Dragos was destroyed, and you now stand in front of Dragos.... 2.0 so to speak. But trust me, he is much deadlier than the original" Josef said motioning to Brian.
"I do not believe you Josef, but that doesn't matter. I have laid claim to this building and have been here since 1930 and according to vampire law, it is you who must leave. I will not ask twice".
"We have relocated all who reside here, so as Brian so firmly said, the restaurant is closed. Your hidden lair is now known and my contractors will soon make it into a steam room and spa. So, if you believe nothing else, believe this! You have been gone for quite a long time and the vampire world has changed, but the word of Josef Kostan is absolute!" Josef said showing his true form. Mick appeared next to him as he and Brian changed form.
Alexi stared at the men in front of him and felt the power they all possessed.
"I can see that you are speechless" Josef said. Alexi was frozen in place although he knew that the younger ones would return momentarily and combined, they could destroy these angelic beings.
"Your clubhouse has been cleaned out as well and Katrina was thrilled to have them visit her, so they will not be arriving to help you." Mick said.
"NO!!!!!!!" Alexi screamed out.

"You have been gone for quite a long time and the vampire world has changed, but the word of Josef Kostan is absolute!"

Brian destroyed Alexi and his cries could be heard all throughout the building.
"Who exactly was this vampire?" Mick asked. "who was he to you Josef?"
"Alexi Volkov. He came here from Belgrade. After the fall of communism, he like many other vamps from the Eastern Block came to the U.S. But unlike many others he was a lousy businessman. He tried many times to make his fortune here, but each endeavor failed. So, looks like he found this subbasement and laid his claim. It's no wonder this building was neglected. I'm sure if we asked Logan to look into the death rate at the Continental, it would be pretty high" Josef said.
"But why did he not like you? His rant seemed oddly personal Josef" Mick said. Josef shrugged his shoulders.
"Because I'm awesome. I came here and made a name for myself. He couldn't." he replied.
Mick and Brian both looked at Josef and knew they weren't getting the whole story.
"You might as well tell us sir. We will find out what it was." Brian joked.
"Wait a minute!!" Mick yelled. "Wasn't that supermodel you were crazy about years ago, wasn't her name Lydia Volkov?"
"Nadia Volkov" Josef corrected but said nothing more.
"You stole his wife? Sister? Crush?" Mick asked as Josef turned his head away.
"Alright! Nadia Kolchek was a drop-dead beauty from the Ukraine. In the 1970's she was everywhere. And I mean everywhere, Alexi got to her first and gave her the whole I can make you young forever speech, which you know at the time was huge No by Counsel standards......so after his quickie marriage to Nadia, I dropped a dime on him so to speak. Counsel banished him for 30 or so years which I assume he went into ground and came back".
"So what happened to the girl?" Mick asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Where is she?"
"Alexi killed her for being with me".
"Damnit Josef!" Mick yelled.
"Hey! I was a different vampire back then and Nadia was.....whatever! It doesn't matter now" Josef said throwing up his hands.
"Are there any other people you've pissed off Josef?"
"Tons, but those are fights for another day" he said casually.

The Continental Building re-opening was a booming success and people were seeing how this one building had revitalized the area and more and more people were coming into the area. High-end diners and bistros and clothing boutiques galore and Josef of course was at the center of it all.

Oh, wow, I got to read the last few chapters all at once! I love the peek into Josef's past, and the explanation for why Alexi was able to hole up in the Continental Building for so long. And a moment of silence for poor Nadia.
