Lillith tries to maneuver between graduation and love!


Gideon and Sam sat in the first row, with large bright smiles as Lillith walked up to the stage to receive her diploma and make a speech as Valedictorian. She stood confidently at the podium and leveled a gaze at the audience.
"My mother always told me life was hard and to be honest, I kind of didn't believe her. And when I was a kid, life was easy. Extraordinarily easy. I didn't have to pay bills, or deal with office dramas or bank fees. But in this final year as we pack up our supplies and our books, knowing that soon we will be responsible for our own bills and dealing with our own office dramas it seems scary. Frightening even. But I tell you, do not be afraid, but conquer everything that comes your way. Stand up and tell the world to BRING IT!! Because the Class of 2023 doesn't back down, we don't run away! We slay!!" She screamed as the entire class stood and screamed "WE SLAY!!!!"

"Lillith, I am so proud of you!" Gideon said as he ran to hug her.
"Now that's how get people pumped!!" Sam said hugging her tightly.
"Hey, Lillith, you got a minute?" A young man said walking towards them.
"Hello Jerimiah! What is it you want?" She said walking closer to him.
Gideon looked at the situation going on in front of him and his eyes narrowed a bit.
"Calm down there dad. She's just saying goodbye to her friends" Sam said touching his arm.
"So, she knows that guy?"
"Yes, and so should you, he's been a part of her Poly Sci group for four years! That's Jeremiah Sloan. You know his father Carlyle Sloan who does business with Josef" Sam explained. Gideon began to calm down a bit. He had always been afraid of Lillith being involved with any boy, considering how prone to anger his daughter could become if someone hurt her feelings.
"So, this is it "little girl" What are you going to do with the rest of your life" Mick teased.
"Well, I was flirting with the idea of doing nothing but traveling for a year, but Mila is a task master. She's going to help me study for the LSAT" Lillith said.
"You're going to Law School?" Beth asked in surprise.
"Yeah. I decided a couple of days ago. I'm trying for Yale Law."
"Josef will be disappointed in you for not choosing Harvard" Mick said chuckling.
"I already got the why I Should Attend Harvard speech from gramps. It lasted a little over an hour" She laughed.
"What field of law will you be focusing on?" Gideon asked.
"Government Law. Men have really muddled everything. I need to finish law school quickly and get to work!"
"Hey, keep in mind your grandfather was President for two terms!" Beth said with a smile.
"Well, of course he didn't screw anything up too badly" Lillith said with a smirk.

Gideon and Sam sat on the sofa listening to Sam's favorite group Blunt Force Life.
"Would you mind if we turned this down a bit?" Gideon asked, wondering why his wife loved punk music so much.
"Sure. I'm not too crazy about this one. Now, their first record was mind-blowing!" she said with a smile.
"What were they singing about?" he asked.
"About the thrill of killing someone who did you wrong"
"Sam.....I worry about you" Gideon joked as he kissed her lips.
"Yeah....I've been pretty moody these days".
"Are you worried about Lillith?" he asked.
"No. Not ever! She's going to run the entire world one day.....it's just....Gideon, I'm
pregnant. Again." Gideon stood up from the sofa in surprise.
"Are you serious? Oh my gosh Sam!!!" he yelled out as he grabbed her arms to pull her into his arms.
"So you're happy about this?" She asked, never thinking that he would be okay about a 4th child. "It's another boy" she smiled.
"Sam, I am never not happy with anything you do! I think dad's going to have to get us another apartment!" he said looking around at their large apartment that now looked quite tiny now that another baby was coming.
"And let's talk about birth control, shall we?" she joked.


Lillith was determined to pass the LSAT with flying colors as her getting accepted to Law School was her first priority. And seeing how dad and Sam were about to birth yet another baby boy, she needed to get far away from her brothers before she did something that she couldn't control. She loved them all especially Silas, but they made so much noise all the time with their games and rough housing about. She needed some peace and solitude.
Mila was going over her practice test to see how she did.
"Jellybean, you scored a 177!! An applicant who scores a 172 on the LSAT is in the ~99th percentile. Any and all colleges will come to YOU with a score like this" Mila said giving her a hug.
"What score did you get Mila?"
"It doesn't matter. What matters is now you need to start getting ready for a range of courses involving the structure of government and the processes by which institutions of government regulate. A required first-year Constitutional Law course considers the structure of the U.S. federal system, including the powers of and relationships among the branches of the federal government separation of powers; and the allocation of power between the federal government and the states federalism".
"You're really not going to tell me what your score was are you?" Lillith joked.
"Really Jellybean? I have Brian's blood running through my veins what score do you think I got?"
"Of course, you got a 180!" she said rolling her eyes.

Thank goodness Lillith is going to study constitutional law and get into government. Those folks in Washington need all the help they can get! I think Gen Z is going to rescue us. At least I hope so.

I'm looking forward to reading this and learning more!

"Hey Jeremiah, what's up?" Lillith asked.
"Sorry to call you so late, I hope I didn't wake you up." He said.
"Seriously?" she chuckled.
"Oh yeah. I forget sometimes. Half vampire. But look, a few of us are going to check out the Paulson trial. I think the jury is about to deliver the verdict."
"After two days? This isn't going to go well".
"You never know but be ready to pay up!"
"You be ready to pay up! What time do you want to meet?"
"I'll pick you up at 9, don't be late!" He said, knowing that Lillith was always running late for everything.
"I'll be waiting for you outside" she said hanging up then being annoyed as her phone began to ring again. "Hello"
"Hey Lilly, guess who's doing a surprise show tonight? It's someone you really love?"
"Missy Elliot!!!" she screamed.
"No. Not Missy Elliot"
"Give me a hint?"
"She starts playing at "Bad Bitch O'clock"
"LIZZO!!!! Hell yes!!"
"Great! The show is at Hollywood Bowl. Seating starts at 6pm and we are sitting second row center!!"
"I will meet you there! Thanks Katie!" Lillith hung up smiling. She always felt like she had butterflies in her stomach after speaking with Katie about anything. She didn't know why, but promised she would meditate and find out what it could be about.

True to her word, she was standing outside when Jeremiah pulled up.
"Lillith Kostan on time? Surely, we will soon hear trumpets announcing the next coming" he joked.
"Oh, shut your mouth and let's go" she said getting into the car.
"So, no matter who wins, let's go get a bite to eat after. The loser pays of course"
"Always".

They arrived at the courthouse only to find out that the Jury had requested more time to go over some of the evidence again.
"Well, that was a big waste of time. What could they possibly be looking at again?"
"My guess is eyewitness testimony. It's notoriously inaccurate" Lillith said.
"So, what do you want to do instead? You know they're playing your favorite movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest at the Retro Cinema followed by Chinatown" he asked hopefully. Finally thinking now that they had graduated, he'd have a whole summer to court his friend who'd he been hopelessly in love with since their meeting freshman year.
"Yeah, I read they were doing a Jack Nicholson Retrospective and I love to go although I can't stay late. Katie and I are going to the Bowl to see Lizzo." she said. Jeremiah felt his heart plummet as he realized that bitch Katie Weaver had beat him to the punch again!

Katie Weaver was the kind of young woman that got along with everyone. She always had a smile of joke to lift your spirits and many people called "best friend", so she was always confused by Jeremiah's dislike of her. They had only spoken a handful of times and no matter how nice or supportive she was, it was never enough for him. She often thought of asking Lillith about her friend's attitude but always let it go in favor of her motto "it will work out the way it's supposed to over time". But it had been over 4 years, and it still was the same, although now she got a chill down her spine whenever he looked at her, like he wanted to punch her or something. Maybe, he was in love with his friend! He and Lillith spent an awful lot of time together, maybe she was stepping on his toes, so to speak. That would explain things perfectly. Thinking she had cracked the code, she smiled and ordered another ticket for the Lizzo concert, and they could all go together! She quickly sent a text to Lillith letting her know what she was going to do.

Lillith could feel the silent vibration of her phone and was tempted to whip it out and see who was calling, but she stopped herself. Lillith had been working with her dad and Sam on controlling her selfish fairy nature, but often it took a very strong hold on her and she really wouldn't care about taking out her phone and handling her business whether it be in a movie theatre or opera or anywhere else she damn well pleased, but she'd wait.......
Oh, screw it!! she thought to herself and quickly pulled her phone from her pocket to see who was trying to contact her. She heard a few throats clearing behind her as her phone shone brightly in the darkened theatre. It was a text from Katie saying she had another ticket for Jeremiah if he wanted to go with them. Lillith put her phone away, just as some burly man was about to tap her on the shoulder to let her know she was being a jerk.

Lillith wasn't jazzed about the text. She liked Jeremy and considered him a good friend, but sometimes she got the distinct feeling that he wanted something more from their friendship. And of course, being a guy, he wouldn't understand that she wasn't interested in being in a relationship with anyone. He would become insecure and eventually lash out, because men were to her both comical and unnecessary in her life. That is unless they were family. She would have to rip off the band-aid so to speak and let him know that he was, in her mother's words "barking up the wrong shrub". Still, she sent the text to Jeremy, letting him know of the Lizzo show and the extra ticket.

Jeremy was thrilled to see that Lillith had sent him a text. Apparently, Katie had gotten another ticket to the Hollywood Bowl show. And while he wasn't a huge Lizzo fan, he would sit through the show because he knew his friend really loved her music. Maybe...Katie wasn't trying to steal his friend from him. Maybe, perhaps she was just the nice girl like everyone said he thought as he went to shower and change for the concert.
After showering quickly, he got dressed and immediately got into his car to pick-up Lillith.
He made his way to Kostan Towers and up to her floor ringing her doorbell.
Lillith opened the door, surprised to see Jeremy at her door.
"Why are you here?" she asked looking at him in surprise.
"I just thought I'd give you a lift so you wouldn't have to worry about getting there or back" he said sheepishly, running his hand through his still damp hair.
"Well, that would be nice. Thanks Jeremy" she said picking up her purse walking to the door. "Hey dad!!" she yelled out. "I'm leaving for the concert!". Gideon poked his head around the corner.
"Have fun Lillybell and be careful" he said looking at the young man who he could tell was head over heels in love with his daughter.
"I'll get her back safe Mr. Kostan" Jeremy said confidently as they walked out of the apartment.

"This is going to be terrible" Gideon said softly to himself shaking his head.


Lillith and Jeremy made it to the Bowl and saw Katie was already there in her seat. She saw them both and excitedly began to wave at them!
"Jeremy, I'm so glad you could come!" she said happily with a bright smile as they made their way towards her.
"Okay, where are we sitting?"
"Your ticket is seat 5 right next to me and Jeremy is seat 7 right behind you" she said. Seeing the look of disappointment on his face, she immediately spoke up. "But as your taller than me, it makes more sense for me to use your ticket and for you to sit in front with Lillith" she said standing up and stepping over the seat behind Lillith.
Jeremy smiled brightly at her gesture and took her now vacant seat. Katie could see Lillith's eyes narrow, and she began to doubt what she just did, but as the lights dimmed, she could see that the concert was beginning.

The concert was amazing and after second encore, everyone began to gather their things.
"So, did you enjoy the concert?" Jeremy asked Lillith.
"Did I enjoy it? Having to listen to my tone-deaf singing throughout the entire concert should tell you the answer to that!" Lillith laughed. "What did you think Katie?"
"Lizzo is incredible, that flute tribute she did in honor of Ronnie Lang was amazing!! I'm going to have go home and pull out my old record of his with the Allstars!" she said walking up next to them.
"Of course you have an obscure lp of some flute player!" Lillith laughed out loud. She had seen Katie's dorm room and one whole wall was all vinyl records.
"You're awfully quiet Jeremy. Didn't you like the show?" Katies asked.
"Oh..yeah!" he said not wanting to say what he really thought of it. He disliked loud crowds, loud voices and loud music. And the only thing he did enjoy was flute solo which impressed him quite a lot. "I had no idea Lizzo was a flautist of such skill" he said with a smile. Lillith rolled her eyes a bit and gave Katie an enormous hug.
"Thank you so much for this Katie! Let's have lunch tomorrow, there's someone I want you to meet".
"I'm intrigued. What time girlfriend?" she joked.
"12:30. Don't be late!" Then looking up at Jeremy "Let's go" she said walking away from Katie. When they were close to his car he finally had to ask.
"Who are you taking her to meet?" he asked casually trying to sound like he was cool with everything.
"My uncle. He's really into vinyl, even more so than Katie. He loves showing off his collection" she replied wondering why he would be interested. Once they were in the car Jeremy had to tell her the truth.
"Look, Lillith. I need to tell you something.....you see...I.." he began to stammer. Lillith knew where this was headed, and it was time to rip that band aid completely off for good!
"No. Stop. Jeremy, I know what you're going to say. I do not wish to be in a romantic relationship with anyone. And I mean what I say. It's never going to happen. My path will take me someplace where no other will be allowed. I have accepted this, and you need to accept this as well or there will be no more friendship between us" she said firmly.
"Why!!!" Jeremy screamed out. "Can't you see we are perfect for one another? From our very first meeting, we both knew what was happening. I don't want to pretend anymore!"
"How very typical of a man, telling a woman how she feels!" she laughed to herself. Without warning Jeremy slapped her hard in the face.
"You bitch! You lying little tease!! You were just stringing me along! For what? To be your personal errand boy? Driving you around everywhere!" he yelled grabbing her by the arms tightly. Lillith smiled at him viciously.
"You foolish creature!" Jeremy immediately dropped his hold on her arms and began clutching his heart. Lillith took form and left for home as quickly as she could. She made it to her door and quickly opened it and slammed it shut, leaning against it breathing heavily.
"LIllith, is that you?" she heard Sam call out to her as she slowly waddled into the room.
"On my God! What happened?" she said noticing the look on Lillith's face as well as a bruise forming.
"I think I killed Jeremy" she whispered walking towards the sofa and sitting down on it.
"What happened?" Sam asked again.
"We went the Lizzo concert at the Hollywood Bowl with Katie. Jeremy has been acting really strange around Katie for some reason so Katie got an extra ticket so he could come along with us. And after we left and were getting into his car, he said he wanted to tell me something. I knew exactly what he was going to say so I told him that it wasn't going to happen between us, so he slapped my face as you can see and grabbed my arms saying I was tease and a bitch....and all I could think about was getting the hell away from him.......I think I stopped his heart" she said.
"Good!" Sam said. "Rat bastard!!"
"You're not mad?" Lillith asked in surprise.
"Hell, no I'm not mad! I'm sorry, my former lesbian warrior just came out! I hate when men try to force their feelings onto a woman and not being able to just get over it! Hell, women get over heart break again and again. And honestly, I thought this way of thinking was going the way of the dodo bird. If it had of been me, I would have punched his junk so hard he would be speaking in high soprano for the rest of his life!" Sam finished.
Lillith looked at her stepmom in shock.
"You were lesbian?" she asked in a whisper.
"Yes. I was. Your dad was my first and only heterosexual relationship....I thought you knew that".

Lillith shook her head slowly trying to remember all she had heard about Sam prior to her relationship with her father. Sam studied the girl and knew right away.
"You're attracted to Katie" she said simply.
"I prefer her company more than any other person I've met.... she makes me feel a certain way.." she tried to explain.
"A feeling in your stomach? It's called butterflies. It's a fluttering sensation, emotions that include excitement, nervousness, fear, and anticipation....love" Sam said with a gentle smile.
"What if I'm wrong and this is something else entirely."
"What if you're not wrong?"
"I don't know what to do but I feel like I can be myself with Katie. Like really 100% Lillith."
"My advice is to take things slow. What's meant to happen will surely happen. But for right now, we need to find out about Jeremy" she said pulling out her phone and calling Beth.

Beth came over immediately and heard the whole story and she too became enraged that a young man would behave that way to a young woman. It was disgusting and made her blood boil. She made arrangements with the cleaners to take care of the situation. Jeremy would never be found. And when the police made their way to find out what happened, Lillith told them the truth. Up to a point.
"We left for his car a little after midnight and he said he wanted to talk to me. I knew what he was going to say, so I tried to let him down easy. I told him I wasn't interested in a relationship with anyone and that's when he slapped me and grabbed me tightly by the arms" she said lifting up her sleeves so they could see the dark bruises around her arms.
"And then what happened?" the officer asked.
"I kicked his shin hard and jumped out of the car and ran as far as I could until I made it to Arnold's Diner and slipped in and called Beth St. John, my aunt to come pick me up" she finished. The Officer nodded in Beth's direction as he knew both her and Mick and thought they were the most honest people he knew.
"Okay, Officer Adams is going to take some photographs of the bruises so those will be on record" he said as the female officer stepped towards Lillith and started taking photos of her bruises. "Alright, that's it for now, but we'll be back in touch when we find Jeremy". The officer said taking their leave.

Katrina took great pleasure in making an example of this toad of a man. Oh, the vileness he spewed at her as she delivered his punishment. Lillith would be better off without a doubt.
When the man drew his last breath, she phoned Beth and let her know that it was done.
"Thank you very much Katrina. Your funds will be sent to your account" Beth said.
"I must say, I never would have thought you capable of requesting such a task" Katrina said.
"I saw the bruises on Lillith and there was nothing else that could have been done". Beth said suddenly feeling a little ashamed.
"Do not feel that way Beth! This man played the role of friend to Lillith then became a monster when he could not have what he wanted. Had it not been for her quick thinking, he could have done worse! Trust me, if he had of taken her against her will, his punishment would have been much worse than it was" Katrina said hanging up.
"It is finished" she said to both Sam and Lillith. Sam who was still angry went into the kitchen to get some juice.
"Good! One less rat bastard in the world" she said taking a long swallow when two of her sons came running in. When they saw Beth and Lillith sitting in the room they stopped.
"Hello Miss Beth" they said simultaneously.
"Hello boys, how are you doing?" she asked but saw they were looking at their sister.
"Lillybelle, what happened to your face?" Silas said running over to her and giving her a hug.
"Who hit you?" Eli asked, frowning.
"Don't you worry about that, okay? It's all been taken care of"
"Was it that friend of yours? Jeremy? I don't like him. I don't like him at all!" Silas said sitting down next to her. Eli had his eyes closed then opened them suddenly as he had saw that Katrina had taken care of the man.
"Don't worry Silas, Katrina took care of that man. Good" Eli said sitting on the other side of his sister. "When we get bigger, we will do that for you all the time!" he said as both boys nodded their heads.
"My strong brothers!" Lillith said with a smile.
"I like Katie more anyway" Silas said. "She's really pretty"
"I like her too!! You should marry her" Eli said with a big smile.
"Can I walk you down the aisle?" Silas quickly asked. Beth and Sam began laughing hysterically.
"Give them some time boys. They need to go on date first!" Sam said.

Katie and Lillith took a day trip to the Redwood National State Park two weeks later.
"I never knew about this place" Lillith said looking at the huge trees and began to feel a calm come over her.
"I thought you would like it. You're a fairy, right? They love trees and nature" she said staring at Lillith nervously.
"How did you know?" Lillith asked shocked to hear her say the words.
"I saw you. I was walking to the parking lot and saw you and Jeremy in the car. I saw him slap you, then he started shaking you hard. I was running to the car, when I saw Jeremy grab his chest and you changed and flew away" she said. "I'd never tell anyone about it you know"
"What are you thinking Katie?"
"I think you're beautiful. So very beautiful" Katie said grabbing her hand and taking hold of it. "Come on, there's a great trail ahead and it's filled with butterflies" she said tugging Lillith along. When they reached the pass, Katie started to pull items out of her back pack. She laid a blanket down on the soil and sat out cubes of cheese, crackers, grapes and a bottle of champagne. "There you are!"
"This is so beautiful Katie!! How did you think of all this?"
"Well, now that the Jeremy situation is over and done with, I can tell you that I've fallen head over heels in love with you and I will try really hard to sweep you off your feet!" Katie said picking up a grape and putting it in Lillith's mouth.
"I'm in love with you as well Katie. So much" Lillith said feeling lighter having said the words.
"Now we can get started on taking over the world!" Katie said popping open the champagne and taking a swallow. "I forgot cups. Sorry, but I don't have cooties" she said laughing.
"Give me some of those cooties" Lillith said grabbing her head and kissing her passionately.
