A sad spring cleaning for Beth.

I don't like to think of them being separated, but this story really works. Partly, I think, because it doesn't explain what happened. It's just Beth's thoughts, and after all, she doesn't need to tell herself the story-- she already knows it! We readers are left with wisps of clues, and our task is to build a story in our minds.
I love that she keeps her mom's Easter bonnet, too.
