I always took the hesitation of taking the machete as that whole "Show the gun early in the play because it will be used later." thing.

I never really thought about Mick's actual thoughts of taking it with him and how he'd conceal it, etc.
That smile Beth gives Mick at the end of that conversation is so genuine and adorable. I love it too.
Yeah, the FOS is stylish alright, but safe...it ain't.

I ask about the silver is because, obviously, silver buckshot was very painful. And draining. Beth asked about his jewelry and it's gold. But he was able to handle the girl's necklace in the first episode and I assumed it was silver and he could hold those stakes. So he can touch silver and handle it, right? So is it only if it penetrates the skin that it's dangerous?
my FAVORITE line from that scene, when he lets em in his house is, "Excuse the mess."
WHAT MESS? That ONE little bloody glass?????????
He would DIE at my house!!!!!!!!!
And he is following that ages-old advice... Leave the machete; take the stakes.
ROTFL! I know, I thought the same thing. WHAT mess? A dirty glass does not a mess make.
Uh, forgot that ages-old advice, grace. Stupid, stupid me. LOL

What I found cute was the voice over about what guys worry about when guests come over, especially the 'private' magazines...even vamps read porn?

even vamps read porn?

I got this image in my head of vamp porn. Femal vamps provacatively posed with colored fangs. Or smeared with blood.

Hmmm... sounds like a fanfic... Mick gets caught with his fangs down...

hmm.... my take on the machete was that he probably didn't want to behead Drake in front of Beth and Audrey. In past episodes, Mick has had no problem dispatching other vamps, so I don't think he's worried about killing per se.

Question: When Beth called 911 to tell them someone's broke into her (!!) house, what in the world would she have told them if they'd gotten there before Mick? LOL Oh, by the way, Donovan Shepherd didn't die, I guess the solution didn't take...or well, you've figured it out, he's a vampire.
Did she want them to come and scare Shepherd away until Mick could get there, perhaps? Shepherd wouldn't have run most likely...he would have fought the police.

Mick heads off to the prison. I guess to find Shepherd he has to backtrack and get some clues. He takes a look at the cage they kept him in.
He reasons that being on display as he was it could not have been easy to be Turned. It had to be by someone hiding in plain site. Mick goes up and asks to watch the surveillance tapes.
Vamp visual comprehension is 'off the charts' so it won't take Mick too long. Who goes in to see Donovan? Well, the priest. Who drained Shepherd at confession and Tuned him at Final Prayers.
Mick calls Beth to share the information of how the priest must have prepped the killer and then finally Turned him.
After getting off the phone with Mick, Beth goes over to talk with Audrey who can't find anything on the television but reports on the killing of the DA. Beth comments that she's sorry, she knows Audrey was friends with him. Ms. Pell says they weren't really friends but he was nice to her after the death of her parents. Beth exclaims how brave she thought Audrey was to testify but the young woman says that it didn't help to get the cult leader out of her head.
Anyone else think it was really rude of her to have her feet up on Mick's chair?
Audrey says that she feels like she has some horrible connection with Shepherd and Beth tells her she needs to break that tie or she'll never be rid of him. Audrey asks Beth if that's what she did.
It was a little different for Beth - she had something to grab on to. We get a flashback of four year old Beth being rescued as she explains about the guy who saved her.
That guy made her feel safe and she thought of him as her guardian angel.
Audrey asks who he was and is told that Beth fantasized that he was whoever she had a crush on at the time, like Johnny Depp or Robert Downy Jr. Audrey laughs. All she got was a balding therepist named Bob. Doesn't seem fair (I'd have to agree here.)
Beth says that now she has Mick on her side. Audrey replies that she feels safe with him.
(light-bulbs going off in Beth's head?)
I would like to hear your thoughts on the fact that Beth has always felt safe growing up. Mick never made himself known to her but she must have felt him his presence over the years if he managed to make her feel protected.

I tie that line into what Mick said at the end of "Fever." "Maybe we've always been connected." I believe that Beth did actually feel Mick as a presence in her life. Whether they have some sort of psychic connection or she saw glimpses of him over the years and knew he was there, that connection was real--and THAT is what kept Beth feeling safe.
Well...and the other major difference between Beth and Audrey is that Beth's boogey(wo)man was dead, at least as far as Beth knew. Audrey's was alive, and he had maniacally devoted followers who kept him "alive" even when he was (supposedly) dead. So how could she feel safe?

Hope it's OK to jump back to the last set of caps (excellent job btw
GA
) with Mick & Beth in the FOS. That is one of my favourite Mick/Beth scenes EVER. They are just so playful with each other. It's one of their calmer moments together and you can really see the chemistry here so much. Beth looks absolutely gorgeous in this scene. One of my favourite Beth looks.

Sweet moment, coco
And I like Alle's idea about the connection, like a meeting of two souls.
Their story makes me believe in the concept of a "soulmate"

I have to say that the idea of Mick and Beth being 'connected' enough that she could feel him over the years makes me wonder if they are fated to be together. Later in the show Josef will bring up the idea of being Turned so that he would be alive long enough to meet the one special love for him. In Mick's case it goes even deeper. Coraline, who Turns him, also brings him Beth and creates the bond that would carry through the years.
ETA: Didn't read what I wrote. BIG mistake.
ETA#2: I somehow adopted a smilie by accident.

That's one of the great ironies of the love triangle, isn't it, GA? I find that tragic for Cora... redemptive for Mick.
As to Mick and Beth, there had to be some connection between them... he reacted so strongly to rescuing her. Surely he had rescued other kids in all those years as a PI. But he hadn't so reacted to their existence in the world. Something about her registered differently with him... made him change... stop partying, whatever. And when they met, or met again whatever, at the fountain, it wasn't JUST "hey don't I know you..." They began to seek one another out...
So there's definitely something there... whether she just felt him or actually caught a glimpse of him from time to time over the years.

I always just thought that he reacted strongly to rescuing Beth because it involved 'killing' Cora and because he felt guilty and responsible for Cora taking Beth in the first place. When Beth sought him out after seeing him at the fountain, I figured it was her curiosity at thinking she knew him from somewhere and, you know...look at him!

But it could have been the bond created since her rescue as a child. There was certainly a bond shown with the hug at the end of NSTAV. I still don't understand the self-imposed 'no more partying' though.

It's not like he'd stopped dating; that was later confirmed in Click.

Welllll... that's a good point,
Sister. As I think about your question, he had a busy couple of years.
Besides rescuing Beth--and he did seem to develop some sort of attachment to her; his opening V/O in
NSTAV says it's a story about 2 girls and we KNOW he had an attachment to Cora-- and killing his wife, which may have had something to do with not so much feeling like partying-down for awhile (cause Josef DID have to tell him, how many times(?), to just let Cora go and he just couldn't... so long-lived greiving there...), he also lost Eileen (Lee Jay's wife) in a way that
really bummed him out, not too long before he rescued Beth. He was still pining about EILEEN also, 20 years later. Mick had issues with women. He just truly did. He clearly was a player, but he also had knight-in-shining-armor proclivities. He is SUCH an interesting mix! It's almost like he had these two separate personalities and they had trouble living together inside the man... one or the other seemed to take dominance at any given point in time.
Which makes me so so sorry we never got ANY flashbacks with Mick and his mom... that must have been some interesting relationship! (tho thank you to the fic writers who have tried to shed light on what had to be a fascinating dynamic... wouldn't we have LOVED to have seen an actress with him in that role??)
