I just wish the show were better. My fantasy is that they had never put this show on the air as is - just written and shot the first 13 episodes, worked all the bugs out, got the relationships right, thrown all 13 away and started fresh in January with a really good, tight, smart, well-written show.

It certainly isn't unsalvageable... they COULD still make it better with better writing. They have the essence of a really good show here. Great actors and a decent premise. But yeah, being too formulaic with the 3 points of view thing. Need some wittier writing. Need to make more use of the actors', the doctors' I mean, chemistry with one another. And I still think they need more riveting opening sequences, to get peeps who may be watching to NOT change the channel.
The question is, will the network give them time to figure it out? WILL they figure it out? And if they do, will new audiences then give it a chance?
And starting in January might've made sense... to take advantage of Alex's movie... tho that is now not until March... so nevermind.
BUT all that said... I am enjoying a weekly Alex appearance. Andy is not his most riveting character he's ever played, but he's sweet and adorable and, to me believable, as Andy and I'm just enjoying seeing and hearing him. And I just LOVE his little habit with the hand sanitizer... such an Alex move. I know I've mentioned this before... sorry... I get a little obsessed.

For you it's the hand sanitizer, for me it's the striped socks.
I confess: I love those striped socks.
I printed the screencap out and have it taped to the wall by my computer at work. Yesterday, I spent my lunch hour on the internet looking at men's striped socks trying to match them up. I work at a public library at night and we have a man who comes in to use the internet to look at pictures of women's feet.
My boss at the day job is beginning to look at me in the same way I look at foot man.
I am so ashamed . . . I even have a back story for those socks. They are way too styling for Andy. I bet he buys his khakis and plain shirts by the gross from Lands End. The socks were a thank you gift from the child of a patient. Her mother told her not to bother the nice doctor who just saved Daddy's life but she just knew he'd like them. And he does.
Edited to add: And since he's in a motel or hotel or something, the louche robe was left by the Liberace impersonator who stayed there before him. Andy's been wearing it since he found it hanging on the back of the bathroom door.

You win honey! Your obsession is weirder than mine!
But I AM gonna go check out those socks... what screen cap do you see them in, if I may inquire??

I saw them over on Moonlight and Beyond in a thread called Let the Rock Gods Soothe Your Troubled Soul (I am not the only one who's a little over the top).

JIMS,
thanks for posting this...quite a 'who's who' showing up in various shows.
One thing I've noticed (and somebody check me on this), is that Andy seems to wear blue a lot either in scrubs (no surprise there) but in 'civilian' attire as well.

I would suggest that maybe Alex got tired of black on Moonlight but he does still wear a lot of it in public appearances.
Maybe the stars each have their own color. I noticed that Alfre always seems to have purple scrubs

Here's the extended version of an on-set interview with Alex:

It's mostly TR, but also a little ML mention and some stuff about BUP.

What a great scene!!! Kuol is growing on me, and Mandy Patinkin is fantastic.

Earlier in the thread, sbj mentioned ER being the gold standard for medical shows (and I totally agree). One of the most famous ER episodes was Love's Labor Lost, about a difficult birth in the ER that resulted in tragedy for all, including Mark Greene. It was a wonderful, Emmy-winning hour of television.
It was written by Lance Gentile who also wrote this week's TR episode, The Luckiest Man, so I think we can be positive about the quality of writing this week. With Mandy's guest spot too, I'm feeling hopeful that this could be a great episode.

Wow! I didn't realize that the writer for this week's TR episode was so accomplished. I'm definitely looking forward to this one now, to compare the writing quality to what we've seen so far.
