I honestly don't know enough about this sort of thing, but the movie's in the black and that HAS to be a good thing. Add DVD sales on top of this and I'd say they did pretty well.
It definitely doesn't qualify as a failure, that's for sure. It is still playing heavily in my area. The theatre I saw it at (twice) is still showing it 5 times daily. It was 8th last week in the top 10. All in all, a respectable run. It should pick up at least a few more million before it leaves theatres entirely. Couple that with the $$ it will make in dvd sales, and the investors should be fairly pleased.

And in Germany it's only in its second weekend, so there will be at least a couple more weeks if we're lucky. There's not that much coming out in the next time, romcom-wise, so it might be successfully leading the pack. I remember it was second or third place last weekend.

If BUP made back more than it cost, it did better than CBS's first movie with Harrison Ford, didn't it?

Yes, BUP did far better than 'Extraordinary Measures' which was pulled from theatres after only three weeks. It debuted at #8 the first week, then fell to #13 and #19 in the second and third weeks, respectively. It's domestic gross was ~$12 million, with a production cost of $31 million.

BUP debuted at #2 the first week, then went to #4, #5, in the subsequent weeks (don't have the numbers for this week yet), but the message is it held its own pretty well, considering some of the 'blockbusters' that came out recently. As Lily indicated earlier, BUP has already recouped its production costs of $35 million and that's before the DVD sales, which should be impressive.

And there are still a lot of countries where it's just opened (or is just about to open). I read somewhere that a movie generally is "in profit" once it has made 1.5 times the production cost (to allow for distribution, marketing, fees etc.) so, allowing for additional international revenue plus DVD and TV sales (it's already been sold to air on TV in the US), the film will definitely make a profit. All that remains to be seen is how much.

Oh, btw... rant over and all... if any of y'all go back to see it...

What do you think? In the second cab scene? I think that was one of the scenes they reshot after 3R closed shop. Cos Alex has his shorter Andy hair in that cab, rather than the slightly longer Stan hair that he has in the rest of the movie.

Go see it, report back.

Wish I could, sweetie, but BUP's gone with the schwinn......This isn't unusual, with so many new films coming out every week. The 'blockbusters' like Iron Man 2 and Robin Hood may take up two screens in a multi-plex, with the remaining screens going to the rest. When BUP opened, it was showing on 3820 screens. Now, it's on 2497 screens, a drop of over 700 screens in just two weeks.

As for the difference in hair - you're good. I saw the movie twice and didn't catch it. There's only once I've caught that kind of difference. In 'Arrested Development', when Mick takes the parents to the morgue, his hair is perfect. When he drags Beth out from hiding, his hair is a bit messed up, enough to get my attention and wondering why somebody on the production crew didn't do something about it. They either shot that portion of the scene hours later, or perhaps on a different day entirely.

But when the DVD comes out, dear grace, I'll be sure to look.

OK, in the Totally Random topic thread, cassysj described her reaction to 'Extraordinary Measures'

http://www.moonlightaholics.com/viewtopic.php?f=293&t=6383&start=75

That go me thinking....if 'Extraordinary Measures' was released late Jan / early Feb and the DVD is already out, there was about a 4 month delay from the time the movie first hit the screen. With BUP coming out late April and assuming the same lag time to the DVD release, that would put the DVD coming out late August, just before the fall TV season gets underway..... :fingerscrossed:

That said, Ex measures was only in the theatres for three weeks, while BUP has just finished its fourth, so it might be September before the DVD is available.
