Beautiful.....I think I've worked out the connection.... Mick had a crush on her ( he was embarrassed by the misunderstanding with the stockings, so not a romance, imo.) She is a retired schoolteacher. (40 years worth of students). And he gave her a Christmas stocking full of apples one Christmas many years before.
Lovely story, MoonShadow, however it was meant to be interpreted!

Back to visit this magical little shop. I'm glad Mick was able to revisit some bits of his youth. And I love the idea of Mick giving a stocking stuffed with apples to a pretty girl he fancied, way back when.

Such a sweet, nostalgic story.
