What do I read in this one? That Mick's truly not happy with Josef's smart-ass comment. Josef knows it too, because he responds with "What? Just sayin...". I think there's also a little bit of "Ut oh" in that look too...that Josef might actually follow through.
.
LOL!! So true! I loved that little exchange... the Mick Josef moments were precious and few, but they were allll great. And Josef knows Mick so well... he can tell Mick's gonna fight for this human. I thought Josef could already tell back in ep one, in the kitchen conversation when Mick over-reacted to Josef's suggestion he keep Beth from talking about vampires in her story anymore.

For me, the whole of Josef and Mick's relationship is illustrated in the rooftop exchange...
"Why didn't you kill him Mick? Why didn't you take this guy out? Why didn't you end him?!"
"With LeeJay alive, there's a chance the truth can come out."
and
"This is a chance for me to erase a regret."
"Ya know, I really don't see how."
Josef is all vampire. There is one foolproof way to deal with humans and the threat of exposure. It is clean and efficient. However, when it comes to Mick, Josef always makes an exception. He points out the vampire way and when Mick resists, Josef accepts it...not agrees, but accepts it. The fundamental issues and conflicts that are a part of Mick's makeup are acknowledged and accepted by Josef...and he indulges Mick, quite readily...I think because he believes in him...trusts him. That is the mark of a true, deep friendship. And it's amazing.

Wanted to comment, semi-randomly, that I totally fell in love with the song, "Forever and Ever Amen"--according to my itunes account, it's the one on the ML playlist I've listened to the most...which is to say, quite a bit.
Something else...during the "sunrise" scene when that music is playing, the traffic is running...backwards.

In the flashback of Mick biting LeeJay.... you have an angry vampire who's planning on killing this jerk. He bites him... and we know ML vamps go for the arteries. LeeJay is terrified, and Mick gets interrupted. LEEJAY WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD BEFORE THEY GOT HIM TO PRISON. Not only that, they'd have had some really odd wounds - and saliva - on his neck to try and explain.
Eris, I believe Mick bit LeeJay's cheek. That's what it looks like anyway. And it explains the scar he has later.
But that poses an interesting question. Mick was out to kill LeeJay. Did he mean to play with him first - get off on the pain and fear before the kill?

Before Mick bites LeeJay's cheek (maybe he was planning on ripping his face off?

), when he stepped out of the shadows, glowing eyes, hint of fang...that erotic purr-growling...and all in black and white. Man, wow, that was great.

Okay, returning to the general discussion...
During the exchange:
BETH: You tried to warn me Julia was in danger.
MICK: Yeah well, none of us wanna believe that there's monsters like Lee Jay right around us.
BETH: You did.
First you see Mick looking down, focusing on his phone, or gps...
then as Beth comments that Mick knew about "monsters" like Lee Jay...he flicks his eyes upward, in a recognition that he "believes" in monsters, because he considers himself in that category.
It's a momentary thing, but looking at the bleakness of that expression once again conveys a wealth of information about Mick's self-perceptions and his despair.
Beautifully done.

Lucky, you find the most awesome minute expressions of Mick. It's almost like a visual "Between the lines"-drabble.
