Thanks, greenleaf...I'll be happy to add you to my update list. (You've seen there's a chapter 6 out, right?)
And so glad you're enjoying the story, too!

And so the plot thickens. I should have mentioned earlier how much I love Josef as a high-stakes gambler BTW - it's just so perfect.

“What about the other one?” Roberts demanded. “She still out? It won’t make any difference.”
Josef scowled. “She’s dead. Does that make a difference?”
“Huh.” Roberts shrugged. “Shoulda left her behind. Well, we can toss the body on garbage heap.”
I am sorely tempted to call Roberts a pig - but I don't want to insult any pigs.

Poor Josef, nothing's going too well here ... that many men in the encampment is a bit much even for him!
It's so nice how protective he is of Sally, and how much he still loves the company of the mortal ones.

The dialogue here is fantastic - Josef, a wonderful mix of cool and irritated and Slade, with enough sense to take the measure of the man. Roberts is also such a great minor character - thoroughly horrid, but necessary and beautifully drawn.
