Well damn, Red!
I've been so excited about and for Alex all day... and now you've done and gone made me yearn for Mick again! And you KNOW I love the backstory pieces... Oh

Red, Gorgeously written as usual and I loved the peek into Mick's pre-vampire life. Sweet and poignant

Did you write this in two hours?
Unbelievable.
So rich in detail, wistful, beautiful.
I love you, red.

Oh, Red, there you go again with that gift of language you have! I love that this gift predated Mick's vamp days. What with the fascination with the vampire, we don't dwell enough on the man! This piece was piercing, but in a pleasurable way!!!

Red, your first three sentences had me thinking it was a Mick becoming human again story, but then it changed into a beautiful, very poignant war time piece. I'm sure that many unexpected gifts just like the little girl's were handed over during that era.

Wow... just wow... There are real stories like this, simple kindness and humanity in the midst of war, and this captures the essence of them beautifully.

Red,
What a beautiful glimpse of the other side of war. Those little acts of kindness that were so precious to the giver and the recipient.

Wonderful, redwinter. I like the contrast of the frozen soldier thawing to life by warmth, memories, and then the kindness of a little girl providing food. The short panic where they acted as soldiers again just shows how different a soldier is from another human being, in survival mode they run on instinct. I love young Mick stories of before he was a vampire. Maybe being a vampire wasn't so foreign to him, he has been a soldier, and it has certain similarities.
That you wrote this in such a short time is another thing to marvel. Well done!

MLC, you should know by now to have the tissues handy.
Emma-lee, thanks! Delighted you enjoyed it.
Grace, ah, honey, you know me. I'm all about Mick.
jv,
thank you.
sbj, yep, two hours. Now I wonder why it takes me weeks with other stuff
. But I do enjoy writing to a prompt. Love you, too
.
Woll, thank you, as always, my friend.
MSJ_s, I'm sure you're right. Innocence and kindness in the midst of brutality - a recurring theme for Mick, I think.
eris,
thank you (and I'm sorry, again).
MoonlitRose, oh yes - so precious. A little touch of humanity to keep out the cold.
francis, you may well be right. Mick has always known how to survive, whatever the nature of the war.

Beautiful red
No one died, and no heartbreak, but my eyes welled with tears just the same.
This is so heartwarming.

I found this to be a very uplifting story!!
A very powerful gift given the time and place and what they were going through in war. Beautifully written!!
