He's a sweetheart - and even more so because that couldn't have been easy to write.

I do think the schedule has had an adverse impact, as have some of the missteps. I really feel for him right now and hope the show catches a break. Not to read too much into this, it worries me that he used the word "fighting."

I'm a little behind with this. I so wish I had more time to spend online.
That was a hard one to read. Poor Alex.

I agree, Luna, the time slot is a bugger... and they've not written a perfect show yet...
On the other hand, Jeez! Look at the sparse characterization on those CSI's and btw, I watched the first two Baby NCIS's... and not so good either.

But a MUCH cozier time slot and a more rote, familiar story-telling technique, so less challenging to watch and thus better ratings.
I think people are actually holding 3R to higher standards. It's a serious medical drama and folks are expecting them to make no mistakes with the medical stuff AND to be spot on with the drama. And it's trying to tell the stories a little differently, and that is challenging to folkses apparently, and not all are willing to give it time and to settle into ITS rhythms. They SAY they want something different, but then aren't willing to give different time to grow on them...
And by folks, I don't mean us here... but I've read the comments on the CBS web site, which I'm guessing Alex may have gotten some summary of too. And also over there? Some of the G**D*** ML psychos are still writing that he'll never be successful in anything other than ML and they'll never watch him in anything other than ML!
WHY are they punishing the man who brought us MICK for God's sakes? Alex didn't cancel the show and Alex has been the ONE voice saying he'd do a movie and he misses ML and ours were the best vamps... These campaigners at this point aren't punishing anyone BUT him! CBS is doing just fine as a network without Alex or ML, and Joel Silver cannot be bothered to say a word to the fans. The only one their venom is hurting is poor, dedicated, honest, caring, communicative Alex.
If I WEREN"T already watching 3R, I'd do it now just to support him over those vicious bullies.

The little online time I have at the moment is spent here so I haven't seen any other sites and the responses to TR but judging by the comment from
Grace, I guess it's not good and that is a shame. Love or hate the show, it has nothing to do with Moonlight and should be kept seperate and I think it's extremely sad that some people can't do that. I feel bad for Alex if the negative reaction affects him as he has clearly worked hard on TR (the way he does with everything he is involved in).
TR is not the best TV show and I've seen far better medical shows that are more realistic but I enjoyed the second episode far more than the first and I hope it continues to improve and prove the negative comments wrong. For no other reason than I want to see Alex on TV again and I want him to stay on TV and I don't want to read any more sad blogs from him.

Oh dear, how unfortunate that some folks can't see that there consequences beyond the instant gratification that their lashing out seems to provide them.
In any event, it is nice to hear that he makes time in an already busy schedule for charity work.

grace,

I hadn't thought about 3R being held to a higher standard, but I think you're right. The ensemble cast are all experienced (to varying degrees) and the expectation is that they'd hit the mark in the first episode. This is a bit unrealistic even for the most experienced of actors. They need time to work together and get feel not only for their own character, but for each other. That takes a little time, which we are apparently unwilling to give them.
But it could also be that TPTB in creating that ensemble cast, were hoping that their respective fans would watch just to see their favorite actor or actress on the screen again, regardless of the quality of writing, directing. Bad premise, apparently.
One other trend that I see in the numbers is that, with few exceptions, those of the established shows are declining from years past and those of the new shows aren't exactly stellar. Even though people acknowledge that the Nielson tracking system is flawed, they're failing to acknowledge that they can't really get a good assessment of who's watching what because of the varied media selections (TV, internet, TiVo).
Let's see what tonight brings.

Grace, a beautiful post.

I can't add one thing except my agreement--and a big hug.

Ooh, Red--no need to be jealous!!!
Grace, I'm not sure how good I am at slash (my one attempt was strictly PG), but hey... I'm feeling so charitable toward you right now, I'll give it my best shot.
