Or is it just a cool design with no special meaning??

thanks for the blowup....almost looks like the blue tat is covering up something else. It's a really intricate design and I can only imagine just how much that hurt!!

I have no idea why he chose it DSR, but it's part of the artwork by artist HR Giger called Illuminatus. Here's a thumbnail of what the whole piece looks like (just click on the thumbnail to see a larger version):

Not that I want to pimp my poetry (OK, maybe I want to pimp my poetry a little), but I wrote a poem about Alex's shoulder tats. It struck me that his two shoulders reflect such different philosophies. The Geiger tattoo, especially--with that safety pin stuck through the person's cheek--struck me as such a reflection of postmodernism and the disillusion (and dependence) of modern people about their technological world. And the eye on the forehead reminds me of the Masonic eye, as evidenced on the back of the US one-dollar bill. So interesting, so intriguing!

Here are the two stanzas about the two tats from my Ode to the Shoulder Tats:

The Geiger tattoo sits upon the right,
A left-brain vision of postmodern rage—
That face, victor and victim of the fight,
Enhanced and ruined in this cyber age.

Upon the left, serenity and peace;
The lotus holds Enlightenment secure—
The spirit soars, the mind’s sharp torments cease;
Released, the soul discovers what is pure.

Sigh... I love your poetry, Alle... I think it's amazing that you can write such lovely stuff... and also write riveting stories... AND write fabulous smut as well... You're a triple threat, honey.

And Sister M! That is just about the sexiest pic ever... the bigger size totally makes it better...

Another thing--it seems that the Geiger face, with the safety-pin goggles and the eye in the forehead (hat?), came first. If you look at this shirtless pic from Oyster Farmer, you'll see the blue tattoo without the extra stuff around the edges. It's not a very good cap, but it's all I could find...


The yellowish, leafy-looking stuff seems to be a later addition.

Yes it does look like they're not there, Alle. But it also definitely looks, from the earlier pic, that the geiger tatto was an overlay. I wonder if they could have been make-up'd out to tidy up the tatt for the movie?
