I'll definitely bring a camera. And I'm hoping I'll love the pilot, but I'll be honest about my reaction...

Jade wrote:also someone @ moonlightdreams saw the Pilot at an even and didn't like it and said that the other people there didn't like it either. :(
Any specific reason why, Jade?
I can never get on that darn MLD site :grumble:
What was it that the poster did not like?

Ok, here goes...Although a lot of this is my opinion I did talk to a few other clients that were viewing the upfront so I will incorporate a few other opinions also:
First, and most important, Alex is an amazing actor...his talent and sex appeal is clearly the best part of the show.
Sadly, his magnetism seems a bit wasted in this part. Most of the other talent was well cast ...some others were not crazy about Miranda. The middle of the show is a bit draggy(some said boring) ...it even lost my attention for a bit. There are a lot of characters...maybe too many pov's...The ending is good...but typical...No real surprises in the show...very medical...not too much character development (like Greys Anatomy) but then again it is only the first show so that may change. One comment from a very large advertiser who I knew personally was the the show probably will not appeal to the coveted 18-49 demo.
I have tried to give an honest assesment so I hope this does not anger some on this board. This is just the consensus of section of advertisers in the Phila market and working in this market I must admit they are a very judgmental group normally. We premered 4 shows and none of them got rave reviews.
ETA: Jade did request, and receive, permission from the author of the post to cross post it here. --Lucky

Being a western kinda Pittsburgh person, a Phila market would rather choke and die before they would like any thing that has the word Three Rivers in it :snicker: :snicker: . Again a pilot is a pilot, changes are made when a pilot is picked up for a series, the bugs are worked out, let's all wait and see the end product. Some of today's best series, most likely had crappy pilots.

Thanks, Jade... hopefully the writers will take critiques such as this and tweak sufficiently to fix the problems...

And great to know that Alex shone.. but I too have been worried that, unless they let us in on the inner life of the doctors, this show could get boring and too jumpy... sorta like FtP was, with all those dangling plotlines...

But as I said, here's hoping they learn to integrate, maybe focus on the doctors while still telling the others' stories... .and make it work!

And we can depend on Alle to be honest and thorough... we surely can.

And nayp... :coffee:

Thanks for the quick response, Jade :rose:
Some interesting points but you never know, maybe the writers will improve the pilot and focus on the characters more if initial responses are similar to this one.
Alex was excellent, what a surprise :hearts: I am not crazy about Miranda either but haven't seen the entire pilot, so I will reserve judgment. It would have been early to bank on Alex's sex appeal, I am sure we will see more of Dr. Andy's personal life later.

I think TR has amazing actors in Alex and Kate Moennig. Dan Henney looks like some nice eye candy (he was very popular in Korea) and Chris Hanke looks like he will do well in the show. If they want to develop an audience for TR, they will have to make us care about the Three Rivers doctors and staff and the only way they can do that is by giving us more information about who they are, their backgrounds, what makes them tick, etc. If the show is going to devote just as much time to the donors and the recipients as they do the TR hospital staff, the audience will not become emotionally involved with this show. So I can only hope they rewrite the pilot to include more interaction between the leads and more revelations about their personal lives before it premieres in the fall.

It seems like the norm these days in entertainment that everyone bashes everything and anything...
A lot of little egos tring to get their piece of attention...it must suck to be an extrovert...

This is a general comment, not a slam against the poster.

I wonder what they thought of The Mentalist pilot....that show seems to have done well this year.

Allegrita - I hope you do bring a camera. Who knows Alex may be there and you may have the chance to tell him all the things you said in the other thread involving the BBM. Good luck and let us know.

In terms of the pilot I remember seeing something a little less than favorable in a column Matt R. of TV guide had. It was a few weeks ago. Matt R. had been a big supporter of Moonlight at least near the end if not always and always had good things to say about Alex. I have to admit it unnerved me a little bit. While Three Rivers will never replace Moonlight for me, I would like it to succeed and hope that they take full advantage of Alex's skills. We definitely need more than just a medical procedural.

Hee! You beat me to it, DC.

For people who can't get to the link, the article describes the fact that Three Rivers is going to be retooled to have a "warmer" feel, and to include some recurring characters including other specialists and a social worker--and one of those characters "will likely" become a love interest for Dr. Andy. They are going to basically build a mockup hospital on the Paramount lot. Wow--that's sure an investment!!! And as we already knew, the role formerly played by Julia Ormond will be recast, but the article doesn't say who is being considered.

Thanks for the information. I hope this show is a great success and that it provides an in-depth look at the main characters. Don't really want a medical procedural.

thanks for the link

Does that mean the pilot won't air in september that they'll start with the 1st episode?
