I know, me too. The stories are getting better and they're letting the situations just be the drama, rather than trying to oversell you the drama through the dialogue. And whoever commented about Ryan's book... what a good catch. That was funny. Still, it makes no sense that the top transplant center in the country can't find an experienced transplant coordinator and relegate Ryan back to assistant. Now, if this was St. Elsewhere, I'd understand. Hollywood.

That was lovely!
But the anchor still can't get Alex's name right.

Well my computer went out... but the tivo didn't... so saw the ep and loved it.
Agreeing with you all. The story was great. NOT over done and the dialogue was much better in this one. Harry Potter was excellent. Alfre was excellent. Pissed-off Alex was cool.
A bit of trivia. The guy who played the bastard-yelling-daddy of the now-dearly departed football player Blair, was also a guest star on The Shield during Alex's season on that show. As in this ep, he did not have any actual scenes with Alex. Since he's a man, the actor is probably ok with that... but if he were a woman actor, that would clearly suck.

Yes, the fact that we still got the horror of the bus crash without seeing it actually happen was appreciated and nicely done. Notice that when Miranda lands at the crash site and she's walking towards the bus, there is a line of sheet covered bodies in the background. That gets her attention, but she keeps walking...there's nothing more to be done for them.
As for why Andy is working on the kids leg, it could be either an 'all hands on deck' approach to a mass trauma situation or simply a detail the writers were hoping you wouldn't catch.
Loved the confrontation between Andy and Ryan....Andy is stressed and Ryan's screw up added to it....not sure I've ever seen Alex play anyone that angry before....convincing to the point that I'd never want to make him that angry.
One final comment....the last surgery when the transplanted heart didn't start right away...I know it would have been a downer, but it would have made a better, more realistic story if the patient
had died....Andy can't win them all. Perhaps with losing the quarterback Blair, they felt they had fulfilled their quota of unhappy endings.
grace - good catch on the guest star....he looked familiar, but I couldn't place him

Andy working on the kid's leg... sure to get angry comments from those who are saying the show is unrealistic... I'm guessing. Tho it works for me... Andy's just kick-@$$.
Alex angry... yeah... wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that... but I LOVE seeing Alex act all emotional. Reallllllly looking forward to some rattled-Andy next week...

Amazingly good spot on the kid's dad,
Grace.
I checked his imdb and Brian Howe (for that is his name

) seems to have been in just about every show CBS has ever made. Okay so I'm exaggerating a little... but only a little:

Yeah, well, I've seen The Shield eps a time or two... or twenty...
Never bothered to look up the guest guy's name tho, so thanks Red. Of course I've only ever bothered to look up one actor's name in all of history... so...

The bit about Andy working on the kid's leg bothered me too, Red. But, I did chalk it up to a "mass casualty/triage" situation and Andy is good with re-constructing veins and arteries..soo..it's a stretch, but doable. Unlike the first epi (?) where he is delivering the baby..OY. Did NOT like that..at all.
Did I miss it? Did they ever tell us what caused the bus crash?

When Dr. Reed was giving her speech in the ER she said it was due to a blown-out tyre.

Thank you, Red. Sometimes it moves so fast, I miss things on the first go 'round.

Watched the ep tonight.

The show is really getting good now.

Too bad the idiots here took it off air.

Just a few observations (SBJ will laugh at me, cuz she's already heard me prattling on about this):
- First, I REALLY enjoyed the ep. It was fast-paced, like an emergency should be - and I felt like I was watching a hospital, not the holodeck on the Enterprise. I adored Miranda and Sophia, but I had to laugh at David giving that woman CPR like the hospital was on fire and he couldn't leave until he brought her back - and that shouldn't have been a place where I was smiling.
- They have GOT to make Andy more flawed - he's WAY too perfect. Not only can he transplant hearts, he can fix a kid's leg AND deliver babies? Can he walk on water and turn water into wine as well?
- Speaking of believable, I really don't like Lisa Reed. She is too perky and cute to be an ER doc.
- I really enjoyed the way that poor kid that was thrown from the bus wandered through the episode and sort of tied everthing together. The way he blamed himself, how he was all alone...just broke my heart.
- Dr. Andy gets angry - thank God. He does have some flaws. We need to see more of that. I like the way he called Ryan out and made him fix the mess. (But I do believe Ryan would have been fired for giving that type of information to a patient's SPOUSE without clearing it with the doc first.)
I WEPT at the end. I was teary-eyed through most of it, but I cried like the mailman ran over my dog when that guy's heart finally started beating.
Overall, the ep was good - I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. It's just getting better and better, the cast is gelling together nicely and Alex seems to get more and more comfortable in Andy's skin as we go along. And how much did I LOVE Gonzo's cameo??

I watched it and I loved this one the best.
Some observations, jumbled, just a few notes:
- I loved that there was such a frantic pace in the ER, but at the end there was this really quiet passage where you could just see people waiting, hoping, praying, waking up, thanking, whatever.
- Loved the end where you could just see Andy sigh when the last of his patients was gonna live.
- Loved the way Ryan messed up. It wasn't because of any lack in medical knowledge, it was a lack in psychology and judgement. He owned up to it. This was all about retribution, guilt and owning up for mistakes.
- Loved the scene with the young guy with the glasses and the father of the donor. This was also about guilt and living with it. The father is so proud of his son, and that's how he will remember him.
- Do you think Miranda is a bit afraid of flying a helicopter? Or was she just apprehensive at having to find this victim? I thought she was mighty freaked out / stressed out when she got on the heli. Or maybe she was just still hung up on losing a patient.
- Jordan is tough. But she's also effective, and saving lifes. I can see that Dr. Lee has less of a problem dealing with her, than Miranda has. He is open for advice, guidance and tough love. Miranda isn't there yet, but I love that we see her vulnerable here.
- I really appreciate that they don't sugar glaze it. There were casualities, there had to be with a crash and dozens of victims.
- Liked the Gonzo video conference, even when Gonzo isn't such a good actor. He shouldn't be, he's a good surgeon.
- Loved that Pam had some moments with the guy with the glasses.
- Loved the kid with the glasses.
- Loved frustrated and angry Andy. This is where Alex shines. His bedside manner was still brilliant. Love how he called out on the doctor who told the boy he had to amputate.
- I didn't mind Andy operating on the leg. He was available, they didn't have enough surgeons, not even enough operating rooms. A doctor specializes, but he should be capable of operating other areas of the body, too. What made me wonder me a little bit was that Dr. Jordan was always working with Dr. Lee or Dr. Foster, why didn't they split up when there was so much to do? But I guess they had way more interesting conversations that way, and probably time enough until the next patient came.
There was nothing I didn't like, for now. Will have to watch again for nitpicking. But I agree with PNWgal, I don't like Dr. Reed. She's bland, and she doesn't fit in.

I like perky Dr. Reed... and I don't usually go for the blonds... or for perky.
I agree that Alex is getting stronger. And that temper tantrum Andy threw WAS a flaw. (Tho LORD I enjoyed watching Alex pitch it... ) Yeah, SpongeBob eff'ed up, but he's still new... and still has no medical training. (ARE they ever gonna HIRE a trained person to do that job??)
Did not enjoy Gonzo all that much... that felt odd to me. That other RL doctor, who played the anesthesiologist, had a better role for a non-actor. But I am all for stunt casting, sometimes, so it's ok.
I am very much looking forward to seeing Andy's wife next week. I hope we get back-story. And it looks like we get to see Dr. Lee fighting for respect from a racist. Could be interesting.
