I agree with both PGal and lucky---Katherine M. is wonderful. From the very first scene in the first ep, she caught my attention (anyone notice her tats in last nite's ep?) She is intriguing and cool in a tough, tomboyish kinda way.

I am hoping that part of the reason of the drop off in numbers is that 3R was so delayed last night. It came on almost an hour late.

Why oh why didn't they lead the series with this ep? Was the first ep the re-done pilot? I am trying to make sense of the thought process of switching eps and the difference in tone. Maybe there is no sense to be made!

OUCH, indeed, and the comments are worse. It was so much better this week, but you just can't drag the audience back after that first episode. CBS strikes again.

I am NOT going to worry about these stupid Nielsen ratings. I just can't go down the Ulcer Road again. We are doing what we can....watching.

But, let me say...I hate CBS.

What a difference a week makes. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this ep and it was SO much better than what we got last week. The dialogue was better, the acting was better, the guest stars were all excellent and the drama and emotion just worked for me this week. I cannot for the life of me work out why they switched these episodes cos the Ryan stuff at the beginning just made no sense whatsoever with him being introduced and everything being new to him even though we'd met him last week.

I liked Andy better this week too. He came across so much better to me and I'm not sure what it was that changed but it was an improvement on last week for me. His scenes with Alfre in particular are wonderful. My favourite is definitely Katherine's character. She is very relatable and extremely likeable.

The balcony scene was beautifully handled and I liked that we got more of an insight into the character's personal lives here. Andy has some issues with his personal life which I really hope they will explore further.

Very much looking forward to next week now.

ETA: There was also some Mick moments that popped up which made me smile (and sigh a little too). When Andy said "Ouch" I instantly thought of Mick.

ITA...the other Mick moment was when he met up with one of his colleagues in the hallway and said 'Hey'....I expected to see Beth walk around the corner....

I have to agree... this was a TRULY good episode, and they were FOOLS of the worst order to do the switch. But they had their reasons, and I have to hope that it won't be a HUGE mistake. Here's to next week's numbers getting better!

I hope CBS gives TR a chance.
I found myself looking forward to it last night which is more than I expected. The characters are growing on me (maybe even Ryan will, heehee), the acting is good, the writing will smooth out I hope. All shows need some time to work out the kinks. This one has a lot of promise.
If it gets cancelled, I won't cry like I did with ML, but I will be disappointed.
If CBS stops messing with the episode order and bides their time this show has growth potential.
I wish critics weren't so busy agreeing with each other to actually watch with open minds.

The new medical drama Three Rivers gives viewers an in-depth look at the most advanced transplant hospital in the U.S. Airing at 9:00 p.m. ET October 4 on CBS, the first episode of this program has been chosen as Best TV Show of the Week. The premiere episode introduced viewers to the team of surgeons at Three Rivers Regional. Dr. Andy Yablonski leads the team, and his sweet disposition, in combination with his impressive skill and intelligence, earn him many friends among his co-workers and patients. In this episode, the foreman on a construction job suffers a fatal fall. Although he is still breathing at the hospital, he has been diagnosed as brain dead, and is kept alive only with a machine. Dr. David Lee, a surgical resident, and Ryan Abbott, the new transplant coordinator, arrive at the hospital prepared to transplant the construction worker’s heart to a young pregnant woman in dire need at Three Rivers. However, Dr. Lee and Abbott must cool their heels when the foreman’s daughter wants a second opinion. Meanwhile, Dr. Miranda Foster works to figure out why a young boy has been ingesting metal. At first, Dr. Foster believes the boy eats metal as a cry for attention, since his mother works long hours. However, it turns out that the boy is zinc deficient, and his body was urging him to eat metal in a desperate effort to compensate for the deficiency. In a moment of realization Dr. Foster learns that her own family’s inadequacies should not be projected onto others. And ultimately, the foreman’s daughter decides to donate her father’s heart, as his organs will help seven people live. The pregnant woman is saved, and her baby is delivered safely.



At a time when many medical dramas grace the airwaves, it is refreshing to see one without the graphic scenes common in most other such programs. For those who enjoy watching talented and kind-hearted doctors work to save people, Three Rivers is a treasure, without the blood and gore which many cannot stomach. Some may argue that graphic scenes focusing on the surgery are necessary to make the show more credible and more realistic, but these scenes can also alienate audiences. In addition, Three Rivers truly focuses on the transplant and surgical team’s work. Without the usual complex sexual backstories common to medical dramas, the teams appear more proficient and actually seem to enjoy their work rather than battered down by it. It is also rewarding to experience the transplant process from the different angles of the organ donors and recipients. Yet the lead character, Andy Yablonski, is perhaps arguably the best aspect of this show. Compassionate, caring, and deeply gifted, Dr. Yablonski’s reassuring voice and masterful touch make us all yearn for a doctor with the same level of adroitness and sympathy.

I read at TWoP that they are showing episode 4 in place of 3 next week. Is that true?!

On the CBS schedule page, they list the next episode on 10/18 as "Good Intentions" with the following episode on 10/25 being "Alone Together". Alex's IMDB page has "Good Intentions" as Season 1, episode 4 and "Alone Together" isn't even listed.

I noticed that the CBS homepage for 3R has changed a bit as well - less 'Alex- centric', if you will.....

Well, much as I think they made a lousy decision in switching eps 1 and 2...it seems this series is not so, uh, "serial" that seeing eps out of order will make much difference in the long run.
