Re: Three Rivers - news, links, discussion - part 10 *SPOILERS*
I feel really sorry for Alex and the rest of the cast but particularly Alex.
I don't know why I feel the need to defend it - and please don't throw fruit at me - but while some are just calling it "A Dog Movie" it was very well done and excellent family entertainment. Plus it was from Hallmark which generally has such good commercials they are worth watching too. The acting was excellent and it was very very nice start of the Christmas season entertainment, so I don't think we should view it as nothing.
I have always said that while I am a very loyal fan of Alex, a lot has to do with the fact that he made Mick St. John and Moonlight the something special that it was. Except for a couple of episodes including the one with Mandy and the one with the football team, Three Rivers just never became for me what I had hoped for. Again, I am truly sorry for the cast, but I hope they all can move on to something even better. Apparently it took Simon a lot of tries before the success of the Mentalist, I hope the same success comes to our Alex.

That was a LOVELY comment, Karen. I too would have at least liked to see how Kuol's story would have played out.
I'm going to put my mod hat on for just a moment and please urge the membership NOT to trash CBS here. The show was going to succeed or fail on its merit, and it simply didn't pull the numbers that CBS wanted to see. Because we love Alex, it's perfectly natural to want to try to lay the blame at someone's feet for the show not making it, and it's totally OK to be hurt by the loss of something we enjoyed.
I'm heartbroken for Alex and the rest of the cast, but I feel especially bad for the crew. What a horrible thing, to lose your job right before the holidays!

I agree. The ones who are hurting the most are the crew that are about to be unemployed. Truly heartbreaking at this time of year.

I haven't been online most of the day since I just went back to work. This is so disappointing. I'm not shocked but I am surprised at the timing they tried the time period flip last week and decided to pull the plug today after a movie.
It's a shame the show never found it's audience and I wish Alex well.
I wish networks wouldn't program with repeats of other shows. If the movie delivered great ratings maybe they should go back to making TV Movies, I actually miss that genre and it gave lots of actors opportunities to work.
Not happy

I am very sad about this. I knew it was coming. I really did. The screwups with football and the general public not watching, the poor writing, etc. I am not surprised that CBS did this. They screwed him with ML and now this. I was hoping they would have at least shown the rest of the episodes. Give us that much but NO! They just had to yank off the air.
I could just hit something or somebody. Particularly at CBS.
I feel so sorry for Alex and the cast. Alex did so much for the show and I left him a comment on his MySpace on it. I'm sure he'll do a blog on this. But you know, we should be greatful for the episodes we do have. I know I am. I'm so proud of Alex and everything he has done and even this this is a setback for him, bigger and better things will come his way. 3R just wasn't in the cards for him.

I commented on TRF..maybe our Alex is just destined to be a huge movie star. I know that TBUP is gonna be fantastic...and we'll be able to love him twice as much up on the big screen!

Psssst... P-gal, you look really cute in your mod hat...
Seriously, I'm just gutted over this. And soooo sorry for the cast and crew, getting the awful news at this time of year. I'm desperately sorry for them and wish things were different. I keep going through it in my mind, asking myself if things would have been different if they'd shown the episodes in the original order, if they'd spent more time doing story development, if they'd done a better job of courting other fan bases besides Alex's. And yeah, there are arguments for every one of those things. But the bottom line? What's done is done. The show didn't find an audience, for whatever reasons, and that's a sad fact of life. It never won its timeslot, it never won the demos. I'm terribly sad about it, and worried and sorry for Alex. But yelling and screaming doesn't do a whole lot of good, I've found. (Do I get the understatement of the week award again?) I loved DSR's comment to CBS, and I think that sort of thing might even do some good. I hope we find out what happened with the stories that didn't get tied up, especially Kuol's. But I'm looking to the future now.
What are the positives? Just as with Moonlight, I've met a bunch of talented actors whose careers I will now follow. Once again, I had the joy of watching Alex on my TV every week for several weeks. I learned more about organ donation and I re-registered to become an organ donor. And I got to hang with you wonderful people while we watched it. I'm not sorry for any of that.

One final thought before I toddle off to sleep....
There's still a lot of confusion about what will happen with the remaining 4 or 5 episodes, whether or not they'll be aired, or sold on I-tunes.
Another possibility is that they'll go directly to DVD along with the ones that did air - that's one way to guarantee that the people who actually cared for the show and want to see some sort of resolution to the unfinished stories would buy it.
Warner Brothers wasn't going to put Moonlight on DVD. After almost a year, its sales rank at Barnes and Nobel is 383. Not bad for a show that nobody cared about. I'm sure CBS hasn't missed that.

Alle, You don't get the understatement award this week, but I'd like to give you one for the person I'd most like to be when I grow up.
That was beautifully put.
