The money raised from Kickstarter will help with post production cost such as purchasing music, sound mixing, color correction etc. These elements are vital to any film and they enhance the movie watching experience.
I know this can be a bit confusing so think of a film like a homemade birthday cake. Pre-production is where we gather the ingredients (cast, crew, locations, art dept., props, wardrobe etc...). Principle photography (what we just finished) is where we take all those ingredients, mix them together and voila! We have... cake batter (raw footage). Now this may taste delicious (especially if it's chocolate) but we still have to bake it. That's where the post-production process comes in. Editing the film together is basically "baking" the film. Everything comes together and now you have something that looks like a cake....er... I mean film. But we're still not finished... A birthday cake requires finishing touches... icing, sprinkles, big wax numbers, you get the idea. Without these you have a very bland cake that no one wants to eat. Same applies to a film. Sound mixing, color correction and music rights are the icing on the cake. Now we have a film that we're proud to show off to the world and people will be eager to get a piece of.
Hope this helps and please feel free to ask all the questions you want.
I think this is a fabulous analogy. Even though some of us would be pretty darn happy with cake batter and a big spoon...
