I vaguely remember either reading or seeing an interview with him where he said that, when he's doing an accent, he stays in it while he's working. It's easier not to lose it that way. That makes sense to me--accents are about so much more than pronunciation. They're about word flow, rhythm, and cadence as well, and those things are hard to do well. His accents seem so natural--probably because he doesn't keep switching the accent on and off when he's working.
Hey, has anyone seen the full interview on youtube yet? I missed it.

I think the award is she gets to keep making more scenes with him... better than any trophy, cash, or prizes that I can imagine.

Finally was able to watch the interview on a full screen.
He is so relaxed and sweet and funny. That man is really the perfect package. JLo is beautiful and they not only look great together, but they sound like they enjoy each other as well. Cannot wait for this movie!

When you put it that way, it highlights the level of effort he's putting into a performance: remembering his lines, bringing his character to life, all the while speaking in a 'foreign' manner.
Impressive, but I really wish they'd just let the man use his normal voice...

I agree dsr--how sexy would it sound for his character to have his natural Aussie voice?
I've heard of many actors using that technique---staying 'in character' so to speak, all the time while filming--makes it so much easier to not lose the accent they are developing for the film.

It is kinda ironic, that Aussie actors are hot in Hollywood, but that for the most part they are not using their normal accents in their roles... You would think if Aussies were in, the producers would WANT the accent as part of the package...
it would not have worked for Mick... Mick was an LA guy... but for BUP, well, couldn't Stan be an Australian living in So Cal??

Exactly, grace. That's what I don't understand. Do the producers make that call----do they feel that the audience identifies more with an American accent? I get that Mick couldn't sound Australian, but for Stan, why not?
On The Mentalist, does SImon Baker used his Aussie accent? I've never watched the show and am curious.

I know that when I saw him a few months back on The View, he had an Aussie accent, similar to Alex's--very soft.
Oh well, Alex sounds great no matter what the accent.

I just watched his interview with Kristin clip and, speaking of accents, I love how he pronounces "pilot"

I like Simon and all, but his accent on The Mentalist is not that great. He slips all over the place! LOL Probably why Alex tries to keep his "American" accent during breaks in filming...less slippage that way.

I think that Hollywood believes Americans are stupid and we can't understand foreign accents.
I watched part of Out of Sight last night, but it was getting late and I was tired. It was an okay movie and Jennifer was good in it. From what I saw, Clooney was delicious.

I wonder if they think the Aussie accent may be distracting? It can be distracting in a good way of course! You know, instead of Zoe meeting this perfect guy, she meets this perfect Aussie guy.

I'd love to sit and listen to it for two hours straight!

So true... that accent would be a total bonus for me...

On the Daily 10 (on E!)--they had a brief interview with JLo--about her losing the baby weight and she mentioned very briefly BUP, but no Alex.

Clearly his people haven't gotten to her yet... since they are also waaaaaaayyyyy behind in getting to CBS, for whom he has already worked for two years at least, I am not holding my breath...
