OK, there have been several clips we've seen in the past with Dr. Andy speaking and interacting with other cast members. When I saw them, I saw a different characterization of Dr. Andy than I did in this clip. I've watched this twice now, once last night, once this morning...just to make sure I wasn't overly tired or anything. I have to say that in this clip, Dr. Andy is sounding /looking an awful lot like a short haired Mick, not just in the voice, but in the facial expressions, the gestures, even some of the phrases he used.....

This may or may not be a rough cut of the scene, but did anybody else see or hear this??
I totally agree...the way Andy said "Here's the deal..." sealed it for me.

I've been wading through the numbers after the first week of new tv episodes....some surprises, some pleasant, others not.

Regarding the medical shows on the big four (CBS, Fox, ABC and NBC), the two established medical shows (Grey's Anatomy and House) were strong in their season debuts. Grey's, with a two hour opener, had a better showing than both CSI and The Mentalist.

House also had a two hour premiere, going neck and neck with Dancing With the Stars.

Of the three new medical dramas (Mercy, Trauma and Three Rivers), only NBC's Mercy has debuted last week and it wasn't pretty, barely beating out New Adventures of Old Christine.

Trauma (Originally called Miami Trauma), debuts this Monday at 9, pitting it against Fox's House and two very strong CBS comedies (Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory). Trauma's debut could be a poor showing as well up against these shows.

Which leaves Three Rivers debuting nearly a full week after Trauma.....

My very unscientific take on all of this is that this is a good news / bad news situation:

Good news - based on the strong showings of both Grey's Anatomy and House, there is still an audience for medical dramas

Bad news - depending on how Trauma does (and I think it might get blown out of the water on Monday), that same audience may not be looking for new medical dramas..

Caveat - both Mercy and Trauma are up against very strong shows....making their chances of success iffy at best. They're also both on NBC, a network that has had few viewers in recent years and may have fewer yet this year. While Three Rivers is also up against some strong competition (Desperate Housewives and NFL football), the silver lining I see is that Desperate Housewives will have its debut this Sunday and not the same night as Three Rivers.

For more detail, check out TV by the numbers. For every night shown, click on 'Read the Full Story' if you want the blow by blow.

:teeth: Speaking of that you tube video reminding us of something....the African patient brought to mind SBJ's Space Between and Otieno. I picture him like this exactly. :giggle:

Oh me too aolver. Makes you wonder if someone connected to the show read the story. Although of course, Kuol isn't a vampire...even though his doctor reminds me of one  .

Its true that Trauma debutes this week on NBC, but it wasn't previously called Miami Trauma. That is a CBS/Jerry Bruckheimer product that just went into production for mid-season replacement on CBS and stars British actor Jeremy Northam. The show won't be called Miami Trauma and as far as I can tell no new name has been chosen. So whichever show gets cancelled first on CBS, then "the show formerly know as Miami Trauma" :snicker: will take its place. Since the Good Wife did good in the ratings, and none of the other established CBS shows seem to have lost much steam from previous seasons, I gotta admit I'm a bit worried. But in the end, there's nothing we can really do as fans, except watch Three Rivers and hope that it finds an audience. :fingerscrossed:

Sorry for the confusion :slaphead: I think that delaying the Three Rivers debut to October 4 actually works in its favor. First of all, most if not all of the returning series will have aired their season premiere. If 3R was up against the season premiere of Desperate Housewives, it might have been tough to draw an audience, especially a female one. But with the DH premiere tonight, all of the 'cliffhangers' from last season will be dealt with. That allows some of the DH audience to perhaps drift over to 3R.

Secondly, if there is an audience for new medical dramas and the two NBC shows don't appeal, maybe they'll give 3R a try.

As for the male portion of the viewing audience, there's still Sunday Night football to contend with. Wouldn't you know that the game that night is San Diego vs. (wait for it) Pittsburgh!! Could be a good game, drawing both an east and west coast audience. But the west coast may drift into 3R if the game is a snoozer.

Here's keeping all fingers crossed!!

Hmmmm. I have avoided watching video clips of the show (I don't like spoilers), but I'm going to have to go check this out. :chin:

Seriously, sbj, it's a little bit eerie... not his looks so much, but his story, and something in his eyes. I thought of Otieno right away, too.

I have met a Lost Boy whose name is Kuol, so I wouldn't be surprised if this character is one, too. It's good the Lost Boy story is showing up in the media.

ETA: :offtopic: I have watched the clip, and I am certain he is a Lost Boy. Not only his story, but his build. The Darfur civil war pitted the Hutus against the Tutsis. Otieno is a Hutu, medium height and build. Although I could only see Kuol from the neck up, he looks like a Tutsi, extremely tall and slender and very dark skinned. Their look is very distinctive. Google Tutsi and you'll see what I mean.

Can't wait for the ep! And I saw Mick in there, too.

Also I noted that Ken Burns' six-week, 12-hour documentary on National Parks airs (on the west coast at least) on PBS at 8:00 pm this Sunday. I believe it must be two hours each airing, so that will overlap with TR. It has gotten a lot of promotion and accolades. I did plan on watching it.

I noticed a few Mick-ims in that TR clip...or are they Alex-ims?

Oh thank you, Grace (and DEb) - that is very, very, very cute.

Sigh.

Excited (and more than a little nervous) about Sunday - and this just made me smile. A lot.

I just got my weekly email newsletter from Buddy TV with their picks of the week. They only pick two shows for the weekend and one of them this week is Three Rivers, with this blurb:
Moonlight star Alex O'Loughlin goes from vampire to surgeon in this new drama about an organ transplant team that saves lives, and looks darn good while doing it.
AFAIK, this goes to everyone registered on their site.
