He knew that he only had just over three months to come up with a new plan. Failure would mean making good on his agreement with Laszlo and here, safe in the arms of the only woman he had ever thought of as a friend, that seemed like far too high a price to pay.

Well this scares the heebie jeebies out of me! Somehow I think this 'to high a price' involves Josef's life. After the exchange with Laszlo it's easier to understand Josef's feelings toward vapirism. Time truly takes care of all things and he has always had plenty of time. Red you have woven a complex story with complex emotions, it's fascinating in addition to being unsettling. Why not just turn Beth? It's her mortality that rests at the heart of this isn't it? Waiting with baited breath for the next update...kays

Thanks, kays - you're so very kind :rose: . Josef isn't just used to being the most powerful person in the room, but also the oldest person in the room - you are absolutely right that meeting with Laszlo is both unsettling and revealing for him.

Turning Beth is not, and never has been, an option in this story. The whole point of the Legion's actions is to keep vampire numbers down - turning Beth would be signing hers and Mick's death warrants.

And as for the terms of the deal with Laszlo,
Spoiler:
nope, still not sayin'.

OMG – Josef and Lazlo’s confrontation made me shudder! The clash of the Titans is what we’ve got here. This bargain certainly sounds like it will not end well if Josef fails. But Josef won’t fail. Right, Red? Right...?

So Josef comes to Beth and Pete’s rescue, but his behavior toward them--especially toward Pete--in the back of the limo had me cracking up. Pete knew when to shut up, let’s hope he know when to give up…

And then there’s our strong Beth. There is no way in HELL she’s staying in Washington away from Mick. No sir, not this woman.

But now Josef gets back and doesn’t tell Mick that he’s seen Beth? On the one hand, he may think that Mick will go ballistic, but on the other hand, Mick may be very angry that he was not let in on this little development with Carlyle. Only you can see our way clear through this, Red. I’m certainly looking forward to it!

BTW, that little spoiler prank -- you are a stinker! But I knew you wouldn't spill, so I was not surprised. Only 3 more chapters to go, huh? Well, I'm tightening my seatbelt for what I'm sure is going to be a bumpy ride ahead...

A tear-free chapter. Thanks for the reprieve! :hearts:

A vampire is head of The Legion? Never saw that coming. I really liked the Josef-Lazlo dialogue. As someone described it, a definite clash of wills. But with finesse. Grace under pressure. But I'm confused at what their agreement was. Is Josef trying to back out of it? Or just circumvent it in some way, to make it moot? :confusing: I don't really see Lazlo offing Josef in any way, I mean, I would think Lazlo needs to keep the old ones around.

I think I'm gonna have to start taking notes. :quill:

Poor Josef has so much on his shoulders. Both Mick and Beth have placed such great and unfaltering faith in him, that he can solve all their problems. And Josef seems to be bearing it alone. :sigh:

And, I knew there wouldn't be any big reveal under that spoiler... but I looked just to make sure.

Thanks for the update, Red! I'm still hangin' in there!

alle, Lisa, Grace, I don't know why you put up with me

Moonlighter, thank you! This chapter was all about Josef so I'm delighted you liked the sections in the car and with Laszlo - a clash of the titans indeed. Josef's playing his cards very close to his chest on this one.... And yes, I am a stinker :giggle:

MLC, yay! No tears!! But I'm afraid I intended for you to be confused about Josef's agreement with Laszlo - at this stage anyway. Trust me, all will become clear in time.

Oh, well, then, that's okay, as long as you meant for us to be confused. :snicker: Sometimes I think I'm the only one who doesn't get it. :blushing:
