In light of our earlier conversation about favourite lines (I singled most of them out in my first response and they all still hold true), I have a few more. This is reminiscent of your wet curls line for me. I see Beth's silhouette perfectly here:

The curve of your neck, the swell of your breast

And I love this bit for both the literal and the figurative meanings. And there is something to be said for a simple turn of phrase:

I hunger no more

Sigh.

I have this story printed out, but every time it bumps to the top of "active topics" I read it again, and am slain again. Isn't it wonderful how the same thing - Mick and Beth making love - can be expressed in such different words? The way redwinter does it, it's poetry, moving on a very deep level of intimacy and fulfillment. This one makes me wish to be Mick, to have someone who touches me so deeply.

And to round out jen's choices, I read Red's Quality of Mercy.

I confess to this one having slipped through the cracks, as I rarely miss a piece by Red. This one doesn't fail to warm and thrill. This one is GLORIOUS when it's read aloud. When you read it outloud, the words surround you with the glory of Mick's discovery of love and fulfillment with Beth.

Richly sensual, this wonderful peek into Mick's mind feels like coming home. It's just that beautiful.

I love that you read it aloud. There's something about first person (which I don't write very often) that works better that way, sometimes, fingers crossed, if you get it right.

This is me being utterly speechless.

This is just poetry, pure and simple. The rush, the pull, the urgency of passion is beautifully and compassionately portrayed here. Strangely, there's also a purity to this piece, and as I was reading it the thought 'this is a prayer' kept coming in to my head.

I think I was right.
