BEM, thank you so much! I was so crazy-busy before Christmas that I didn't even realize you had commented till today! :blushing: I absolutely agree with your analysis. It's time for Mick to start looking forward.

In honor of our 16th birthday, I thought I'd bump this unbirthday story. It hasn't popped up since 2013!

You don't need to do anything Alle. It was there - I just didn't see the beginning. Sorry.

I've often said that I didn't remember a particular fic, only to find I had already commented on it. :eyeroll: Not this time! This was totally new to me, and I had never posted a comment. :chin:

This a great story, Alle! Interesting to think a about Mick now realizing that being human again wasn't exactly all he thought it would be, and that yeah, there are some good things about being a vampire, too. Perfect Mick VO, btw. And yes, he and Beth weren't able to ... you know. But there's still time, Mick!

So glad you bumped this up and I found it!

It's been a very long time since I read this story, but reading it now, I remembered it as if I'd read it yesterday! I think I remembered it as actually being part if the show....it was that deep of a memory. (I also may have accidentally borrowed bits of this for In Between without realizing it.....sorry! My subconscious apparently thought this was canon.)

On this read, one thing that particularly struck me was how Mick was now seeing parts of being a vampire as fun. He wasn't just accepting that he had become a vampire again, or even realizing that he kinda liked being able to instantly heal....he was thinking about actually enjoying vampire life. (Especially the jumping thing. ;) )

The other thing that struck me was the way he talked about upping the ante with Josef over the years, and how he'd now be in Josef's debt forever. Plus his decision to thank Josef by being less negative about being a vampire. I love that in this story, part of the reason he was so much less moody in the last four episodes was because of that vow to Josef, and that he made the conscious decision to look at his life in a different way. That's something I'd never considered, and it really, really fits.

And now it must be time to re-read Shock. :flowers:

Thank you so much, Shadow! I am absolutely thrilled that you feel like this could be canon. That's a huge compliment, and I can't tell you how happy it makes me. :hearts:
