Missed this somehow during a very busy bit of RL . . . but it's a lovely treat to have saved for myself! This goes so straight to the heart of Mick and Beth's relationship, and what I've always believed is the real reason that little Beth changed his life and drew him into being such a guardian angel. She was a really special kid; she saw everything Mick hates about himself during that fight with Coraline, and she still wasn't afraid. She just accepted him for what he was, and then did the same again when she was older. It's really beautiful the way you've laid out what that means to Mick in this so-intense piece. It's short, but literally everything is in there. And it so brings back to mind the look on Mick's face during that first embrace in the very first episode . . .
