I'm cautiously, happily optimistic. I'll at least chill the bottle, but save the uncorking for the actual announcement. :cheering:

Hollywood Reporter Reporting In!!! Woo-hoo!!!

Post by amyvil »

The Hollywood Reporter is now on board as well! Woo-hoo!!! It's happening, people!!!

Three CBS drama pilots moved closer to a series pickup Saturday when the network gave the projects a green light to start making offers to writers and directors.

The “NCIS” spinoff, “Three Rivers” and “The Good Wife” are all from sister studio CBS TV Studios.

Approval to start hiring as a precursor to a series order became very popular in the past few years as the networks used it to give newly picked series a head start.

However, this year NBC, Fox and ABC opted for straight orders, with only CBS and sister network CW starting off with an approval to begin staffing.

The CW took the step with its strongest pilots, dramas “Melrose Place” and “Vampire Diaries,” both considered a lock for the fall schedule.

At CBS, the “NCIS” spinoff starring LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell, the Julianna Margulies-starring legal drama “Wife” and the Alex O’Loughlin-toplined medical drama “Rivers” had been early standouts.

Still, there has been intrigue surrounding CBS’ quest to launch a medical drama with “Three Rivers” competing for the slot with “Miami Trauma.”

While “Moonlight” star O’Loughlin is considered a major draw and is very well liked by CBS brass, “Trauma,” exec produced by CBS’ top producer Jerry Bruckheimer, had been heating up in the past few days.

As for the “NCIS” spinoff, with its strong brand and star-studded cast, the only intrigue surrounding it has been whether the network would pair it with the original series on Tuesday.

WF, if CBS has given orders to Three Rivers to start hiring writers and directors, it's a go! That's just CBS speak for we've picked up the show. Nellie Andreeva (the author of the article) is just referring back to the recent teeter totter between Three Rivers and Miami Trauma. She said it HAD been heating up (past tense) but CBS decided in favor of Three Rivers because they've given it the go ahead to start hiring. CBS wouldn't do that if they weren't going to pick up the show.

But WF Miami Trauma wasn't given the order to start hiring writers and directors and the other article from Nicki F.said Miami Trauma is all but dead.I'm with SS about being cautious but this is all sounding pretty good for Three Rivers

I too am cautiously optimistic. But I learned my lesson last year to never be over confident. Things are looking good, but the bottom line is that the show has NOT been officially picked-up. And until I read that it has, from a reputable source, I won't be celebrating.

I'm with you, Susie. It's looking pretty favorable, but it's not a sure thing.

That is why I pointed that out! I agree that it looks extremely good but I just want to be ready for the stab of pain, God forbid! I would rather be thrilled than cut to the heart! :baby: :baby:

But the writers hired for Three Rivers could easily be diverted to write for Miami Trauma. This same scenario happened last year with one of the comedies that CBS was supposedly going to pick up, but in the end it didn't happen. The "dark horse" comedy was picked up and the writers they had hired for the other show were summarily passed over to write for the show that did get picked up. I think the comedy that was passed on was called Single White Millionaire, and the pilot that was picked up was "Gary Unmarried". I would think the same thing could happen here. Again, I'm very optimistic. Just cautiously optimistic.

Well, I guess given the past history between Alex and CBS, I have faith that TR is going to be put on CBS's schedule. The second Moonlight was cancelled, CBS signed Alex to a holding contract. So obviously they saw his talent and wanted to develop projects with him. Here we are a year later and CBS has given him a cushy guest starring role in CM, a leading role in a romantic comedy and the lead in a pilot. CBS has plans for Alex and Three Rivers and The Back Up Plan are just the start of great things to come.

On that, Amy, I agree with you 100%. Alex's star is definitely on the rise. I'm just a firm believer (thanks to the heartbreak of last year) that anything can happen in Hollyweird. So, while it definitely looks good for Three Rivers, I'm trying very hard to stay grounded until we get the official word. These same outlets were reporting that Moonlight was good for a season two, until it wasn't. They all then broke the news that Moonlight was cancelled. We know from experience that in a matter of hours, things that were once a "sure thing" can fast become "that shipped has sailed". I'm keeping the champaigne on ice, but won't pop the cork until I know that its time to celebrate! :snicker:
