Wow--I love what they said (except for dissing Jason's further work, of course), but it's almost like PART of a review! How could they not mention Nick and Brian?! Those guys were pivotal. Very nice comment, Lucky.
FYI: If you happen to receive Google alerts about Searching for Sonny, there's a scam popping up that offers free viewing online as a Facebook Event. I've verified with the SfS team that this is bogus, and they cautioned us not to click on any links there.
I have to add here...if you notice, both looking at the pictures, and watching the video of the Q&A, what you see is Jason, as he so often does, standing back and letting others shine. He doesn't seem to have that need to be out front getting all the attention that so many celebs seem to exhibit. Not that he's unwilling to talk, but he doesn't try to dominate the conversation. (Plus the fact that he actually LISTENS to what other people say...)
And...so many pictures of him, he's got an arm around someone. It seems to be his favorite pose.
I got to realizing that we really haven’t come close to finishing stories about the premiere last weekend.
And I wanted to tell a bit more.
Not that this part is terribly thrilling, but at the time, it seemed like more evidence to us that the stars were just aligned in our favor that night.
After the screening, and the Q&A, people milled around and talked for a bit. (I had a lovely little conversation with Red Sanders’ mom, who is just as much of a redhead as he is, and a delightful woman, to boot. Very proud of her son, as well she should be.)
Andrew Disney had issued a sort of general invitation to the after-party to the crowd, as well as putting it up on FaceBook. He obviously believes, the more the merrier…Anyway, we were gratified, though, when several of the people associated with the film in one capacity or another specifically urged us to come to the party.
This includes, I have to add, Jason asking us, “You’re coming to the party, right?” (Mental answer: “Are you freaking kidding me?” What we said, “Oh, yes, of course!”)
I can’t speak for Lilly and Alle, but it definitely made me feel less like a hanger-on, and more like a part of the group.
We decided, yeah, we could probably fit the party into our plans (like we’d have missed it!), and headed off to pile into my pickup truck to make the short journey to the bar where the party was being held. Having three smartphones in the truck, with GPS and maps, didn’t hurt, and we got to the bar pretty quickly.
Now, you have to understand that Austin, besides being a state capital, is also the home of a very large university. And by large, I mean about 50,000 students. All of whom were, apparently, out drinking at the bars in the neighborhood of the place Andrew had selected for his party. We spotted the bar, and started looking for a place to park. **hollow laugh** The streets were filled, on either side, and we’d cruised quite a ways down from where we wanted to be, with no luck.
Okay, there was one spot, but it was kind of short, and I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the best parallel parker in the world, especially not with a pickup.
But…there was a parking lot not far from the bar. It had a “Lot Full” sign out, but we’d seen cars going in and out, and thought maybe there was a chance. All right. We pull in, and the proprietor comes over and says, “Lot’s full.”
Okay, but we need to drive around the circle to get back to the entrance. On the way, I start suggesting that maybe our best bet, even though it would take some time, would be to go back to our hotel, a couple of miles away, and get a cab back to the bar. Alle and Lilly weren’t thrilled, I could tell, but I wasn’t sure we had much choice.
Then—we come back around to the parking lot guy, and he motions to us. So I drive forward a little, and roll the window down further. “You staying overnight?” he asks. “No, just a few hours.” “Follow me.”
And with that, he trots off down the row, and comes to a place he had marked off with a sawhorse. He moves the sawhorse, and says, “Park here.”
It was literally across the street from the bar we were going to. And I have no idea why he chose us to put in this special saved place.
But he did.
That was just the kind of magical night that it was.
As much as I love Jason (and there's no real doubt of that around here, right?), that review is much more on target by spotlighting Brian and Nick's contributions. Everyone in that movie does a bang-up job--but I think it's Nick, as the over-the-top, in-your-face loony, and Brian, as the more quietly nuts one, who really bring the laughs.
Got my tickets!! Boyfriend and I are going to see this on November 12th in downtown Fort Worth. I'm excited!! I asked my bf, Shelton, if he'd like to go see a movie and told him which one and where. Sent him the link to read up on it and he says "Oh, I know, you just want to see Jason. I see."
