They are in "The Back-Up Plan," a romantic comedy from CBS Films that's scheduled for release in 2010.
Lavin, a Wilmington resident and actress best known for playing the title role in TV sitcom "Alice" and for Tony-winning performances on Broadway, has been in Los Angeles this month shooting scenes for the film. She'll return to L.A. later in June to shoot several more.
"I play (Lopez's) nana," Lavin said Thursday, reached while boarding a plane back to Wilmington, where she's directing David Mamet's play "Speed-the-Plow" for her and husband Steve Bakunas' Red Barn Studio.
The plot of "The Back-Up Plan" has J-Lo's character becoming artificially inseminated, immediately after which she meets the man of her dreams, played by Alex O'Loughlin of TV's "Three Rivers."
"He's just a hunk and a darling," Lavin said.
Commitment issues are at the heart of the script, and the young couple's situation is paired with a decades-long, marriage-less romance between's Lavin's character and her boyfriend, played by Tom Bosley (of "Happy Days" fame.)
Lavin said she likes the role she's playing: "It's very rare these days to find a movie role playing a woman of age where she's not being humiliated."
Plus, she's having fun. Lavin said she got to shoot a wedding scene that includes, for the movie's closing credits, a Bollywood-esque conga line.
"The Back-Up Plan" is the first screenplay from Kate Angelo, who has written for TV's "Will and Grace," "The Bernie Mac Show," and "Becker." It's being directed by Alan Poul, a producer and director for HBO series "Six Feet Under," among other projects.
If I didn't know better, I'd say he's too good to be true.Jade wrote: "He's just a hunk and a darling," Lavin said.
I think it's just meant to make him look like a casual, working class guy. The untucked shirts don't bother me at all actually. In fact, in real life Alex wears a lot of untucked button downs and I ALWAYS think he looks hot!madzoo wrote:What does everyone think about Alex's wardrobe?
I'm really not happy with it, the untucked shirt is ok, but only if it's unbuttoned! I know they spent the entire wardrobe budget on JLo, but they could have done a MUCH better job on him. I'm starting to feel like they want to hide his spectacular bod, which would be a major waste.
