Dear Alle, I'm so happy for you to see our Alex upclose and personal... Your photos are great and like you say, he does look happy and healthy! Don't worry about sounding like a giddy schoolgirl- I would have felt the same way and I think you did great under the circumstances! Thanks for sharing your experience with us....sighs to self and wonders when Alex will visit 'the great white north' again :snicker:

Just read a disappointing review of the film from the Chicago Tribune--no mention of Alex whatsoever, not even named in the short list of credits. Does anyone know approximately how much screen time he has in this?

There were some funny comments in the review---one even mentioned vampires--how the presence of them would have made the movie better! Got a kick out of that!

Similar type review in my own local paper - for such a poor review, they gave it nearly half the front page of the 'Arts' section.

The only actors mentioned in the write-up itself were Kate Beckinsdale (a lot) and Tom Skerritt (just in passing). Like Fleur's paper, Alex was not even listed in the short credits. I get the distinct impression that the reviewer was there to see Kate, and nothing but Kate. But he wasn't kind to her either, saying that she should be 'above' the 'gratuitous' shower scene in this point in her career and that she keeps striving for a level of stardom that seems to be beyond her reach.

As for how much screen time Alex has? The film is only 96 minutes, and a lot of that is either outside scenery or if there are people in it they're bundled up to their eyeballs with protective clothing....so my guess is a fleeting 5 or 10.

I'll let you know later....they are showing it at the local mall theatre, so I'm going to try and see the early pm show, before all the teenagers get out of school.

Alex's name doesn't even appear on the poster so my expectations are, and always have been, low in terms of screen time and the overall quality of the film (given it's been in the can for over a year).

Like dsr, I'll know more later...

dsr~~ Thanks for the info. I've been debating whether or not to go and see it--though my husband will go with me, Bob love him--probably because I did play up some of Kate B's half-dressed scenes. (it's only fair, if I am only going for Alex, to throw him a bone)

I didn't expect all that much either given that the opening for this film has been delayed time and time again--honestly, I was expecting a straight to dvd deal. Our paper's reviewer also mentioned a looooooooong shot of Kate bending over in underwear that a US marshal in Antarctica probably wouldn't be wearing! He also noted that while Kate was "striving for hard-bitten and tough, it came off as petulance, as if, like, I'm just trying to leave Anarctica, OK? And I have to solve these crimes? Ugh. Whatever."
(that's a direct quote)

The review wasn't mean-spirited, more witty than anything!

The review in our paper wasn't written by the guy who normally does them...my guess is that he would have skewered it!!! The tone of the review was more a pining over Kate, what she's done, what she could do, and what the hell is she doing in this??

Even so, I'll muster up all the strength I can draw on and somehow find a way to sit through it. From time to time though, I expect there will be some flash of Aussie brilliance on the screen that will make it all worthwhile!!

Oh, you can count on that----though my version of Aussie brilliance is veering to the naughty side at the moment........

Thank you, Red, you are a true friend to share all those finds with us.
In this one around 4:05 minutes in there is a short clip and the person is at a door where it says "CAL" and "ES".
I guess that's the door to the "SOUTH CAL FRESHIES" where they hang out and relax. Should be "SOUTH POLE FRESHIES" though. :snicker:

Seen it, off to see it again ROFLOL :snicker: . I loved him in it, he gets about 20 min screen time all in all and he's excellent as always. Love the aussie. Not gonna say more since I don't wanna be spoilery. One thing I will say though is...

This movie really seems to be getting a lot of promotion on TV which always sparks interest. Hubby and I are going tonight or tomorrow night, (him Kate, me Alex). As far as reviews, we have gone to two movies that were really praised by reviews in the last year, one we actually walked out of the movie and ended up at Chili's right next to the movies, the second one we stayed had wished we had gone to Chili's. Movies that were crucified in reviews this summer, we really enjoyed, so I refuse to listen to reviews, blogs, etc. I go, watch and listen to things that spark my interest, not another person's opinion. Sometimes totally disappointed and most times pleasantly surprised. As far as Whiteout, Alex is in it, he could be shoveling snow of the sidewalk and have one line "nasty weather we are having" and I would have to go.

Yeah, review in the Houston Chronicle is much the same. No mention of Alex. Tom Skerrit mentioned in passing. Gabriel Macht gets a little more ink, but not much. Even Kate doesn't get many comments.

This is my Whiteout Review  :tomato:

Ummm, don't hate me. It is not very good.

I fully admit that it is not my kind of film. Thrillers bore me unless they are very good because I figure them out but looking at it from a cinematic point of view...It falls far from the mark.

The lighting is good, dramatic, gray and drab and at the end is bright and colorful. The editing is good, the pace moves well. The SFX are very nice. The sound is very good, right use of cuttng out and buliding suspense. The acting is ok nothing steller, Alex included. He has done better work, mostly with ML and CM.

BUT all this is a mote point when the story is crap. Plot that makes no sense, you don't feel for her, not really. No real character development on ANY one. You get Carrie's sob story, that is about it. The bad guy(s) falls short, Pryce is a boring character who only serves the purpose of he could be the bad guy. It just isn't worth it unless you are a fan of the actors, but then you are just biased. I am very admittedly biased.

I will own the DVD for no other the reason that i like Alex, i admit it. I'll just skip to his parts.

All this is just my opinion as a fan and budding filmmaker.

Now for the fan bit...It was good i was alone because i squeed every he came on screen. he is funny as hell until...
Spoiler:
You know, he starts killing people and rtries to kill Carrie, then you know...dies
I almost! when back just to watch it again so i could focus on his bits but i didn't. SOMEONE POST!!! lol Russal is a ok charries, i put him behind kevin i think. He is sexy and beautiful, even 50 below.

Go see the film, but only if you love Alex enough, otherwise save your money.it isn't worth it.
