Re: No Such Things As Vampires (Episode One)
I can't believe we've got this far into the discussion without a cap of the hug. Seriously, that needs immediate remedy:

Mick's hesitation could have been cheesy - but Alex carried it off beautifully. I love this moment.
I also loved the M/B interplay at the cemetery - nice banter, already a bit touchy-feely (Beth's hand on Mick's in the car) and this lovely pic:

Mick started out, IMO, a little dismissive of Beth - like he was the professional and she was the amateur. And then we saw how quickly that changed to instant concern for her safety, and all thoughts of being the one with all the answers disappeared.
In its place? Instant chemistry.

Thanks for the hug pic Red. Gets me every time *sigh*
ITA about Mick being dismissive of Beth in the beginning but how quickly that did indeed change. I adore the very early cemetary scenes with them as instantly you could see the banter and chemistry between them. I love the "your pushy" and "get used to it" lines so much

Re: No Such Things As Vampires (Episode One)
With vampiric undertones to the murder, Mick heads to the morgue. He meets with one of my favorite secodary characters, Guillermo.

Mick picks up some blood, A+, which Guillermo does not seem to like. So we now know that different blood types taste different. And we know that Mick drinks morgue blood. I thought this was interesting. G likes O+ - it has a better finish.

Mick asks to see the girl's body and Guillermo said he figured he would - so this is nothing new. Mick does the sniff thing for the first time. He can smell the past.

Now wouldn't this be a great ability to have? He sniffs the body but does not smell vampire. Checking the wounds they don't appear to be vampire bites. She wasn't drained either and a vampire would have drained her. It was a human that murdered her.
Mick's a PI. He wasn't hired for this case. Is he a vampire watchdog?

When I look back at this ep., I am struck by how much info was given, in such a short span of time, and how many emotions are displayed. You have the suspense, fear, humor, and the beginnings of longing. And that hug at the end, that is when I knew this was going to be something special.
Yeah, I got it bad............

Re: No Such Things As Vampires (Episode One)
Yeah, nice point, Red... he was the smart-ass with her originally... I think in part fending off the emotional attachment that HE already felt. Use humor so the other emotions don't show, don't come to the surface...redwinter101 wrote: Mick started out, IMO, a little dismissive of Beth - like he was the professional and she was the amateur. Also, she had been a child to him... he had to come to see her as a capable adult. She WAS capable, so he gets credit for making that leap pretty quickly IMO...

Re: No Such Things As Vampires (Episode One)
To continue the points that red and grace are making, when I look back at Mick's treatment of Beth--how he teased her, joked with her. I think it demonstrated that he already felt so comfortable with her, and that a connection had already been made. I don't know if Mick would have been that "light' with someone else he didn't know.

Re: No Such Things As Vampires (Episode One)
She charmed him...immediately. His eyes follow her, subtley and he has small indulgent smile when she's flitting around in her pushy little way. Maybe not a connection at this point, but he's definitely drawn to her. In some fashion, he's proud of her and how she turned out. And I don't mean in a weird fatherly way, I don't think he ever felt fatherly towards her. I think he's always felt strongly about staying out of sight, out of her life unless her life were threatened. Protective without ownership.

Re: No Such Things As Vampires (Episode One)
I. Love. Guillermo. I would have loved to see more of him.
And how much do I love the sniffing the past?
I think "vampire" automatically gets Mick involved - he may hate what he is, but I'm betting he shares Josef's fear of being exposed to the humans. And add in the "I wanna help people" thing, I think it's a little of both - vampire watchdog and protector of the humanity most people take for granted, but he craves to have back.

Pgal--my head is going to fall off from nodding in agreement with you!
Every time you post something here, it is exactly the same as how I perceive it.
So, I guess I will just say: "What she said"

Okay, while we're trading screencaps...
The hug, first he drops his head, thinking fiercely (knowing Mick, about what a bad idea this is...)

Then he surrenders to the moment, and closes his eyes.

That simple action said so, so much.
