Personally I think it really is 'Al' giving us updates because it's different to how his reponses used to be posted. If I remember correctly they were always signed 'Alex O'Loughlin' and were fairly few in number too.
It seems he has more time on his hands since his split with Holly and maybe he's spending his nights alone on his computer (the horror of the thought is enough to tilt the world on it's axis isn't it?

). So I think he's taking the opportunity before getting back into the thick of pilot shooting by catching up on his messages and re-connecting with his fans. It all makes perfect sense.
And I agree that this is his only way of responding in person to his fans, and that's why he MySpace's. It may not be too cool for some, but what other alternative does he have? I think it's a great idea. It's instant and doesn't exclude people. I'm eternally grateful that he does it, even if we just get crumbs.
Mags, that was an awesome response and gives me more hope than any other talk since his last interview with Midnight Louie. *
Picture a not-so-slim lady doing a happy dance right about now. It's not a pretty sight, but it's a pretty feeling.*

MM. I think it's been him replying all along and that it's just more frequent now for the reasons you mentioned. He's signed-off various ways in messages...Al, Alex O'Loughlin, Alex O, and has in his blogs too. I think 'Al' is kinda cute but I still say he doesn't look like an 'Al' to me.

Just for the record... I don't care what he calls himself... except employed. I'd like him to call himself employed.

I always figured that his close friends and family called him Al, but to see these messages to the fans signed Al makes me all gooey and smiley inside.
I adore and admire him more and more everyday.
Everyone involved with ML seems to be amazing people who love to keep in touch with the fans. Sophia, Jason, Alex, David, etc...they all make me love Moonlight even MORE than I already do.

Hmmmm... I must be easy... just looking at pictures of him makes me all gooey and smiley inside... clearly I need to rethink my hard=to-get act...

Give it up Sis! You don't have the stamina to use it on him anyway!

I prefer the easy-to-find tactic.
I just wish he would!!

Y'all are gonna hate me for saying it but I think this Al nickname came from Holly. She posted a pic of her and Al on MS with the title "My Sweety Al". I wonder if by him calling himself that name, he wasn't simply think of her.
Thanks, Mags, for sending good positive vibes. THR had been posting slew of articles on pilots fleshing out casts and I was getting a bit angsty. This helps a lot!

I hate you
Over!

J/K! But, as
SS mentioned, and I know I've seen it before as well, Jack Thompson referred to him as Al in a Feed interview and that was well before Ms. Holly's time. I have a feeling family and friends call him that. She probably wasn't the first girlfriend to refer to him as "My Sweetie Al".

Absolutely true. I remember that interview. Alex first met Jack on Man-Thing and it was through Jack that he met Jack's son Patrick (who was Philip the cop in Feed). In the interview Jack said that Al and Patrick were looking stuff up on feeders and gainers on the 'net. Ergo, if Jack was calling Alex 'Al' in a interview attached to the movie, then I seriously doubt Holly was the first person to use the nickname because she didn't even meet Alex until he'd moved to America. It seems Jack got in with it first. In other words - I agree with mwj.
I think it's kinda cute. I don't picture old fashioned gangsters or fat schlubs on the sofa burping and scratching their backsides when I hear it. Probably because Aussies really do shorten names down to one syllable all the time. I've been called Mand more than once myself, although my friends have mostly picked up my husband's nickname for me which is Mando. Heck, even my kids call me 'ma' (can you believe it?

)

Way to go, Mags!
Oooh, a mood thread! Shiny! I do like to play!
IIRC "Al" is what he's normally called. We used to wonder if it really was him because he kept signing with Al. IIRC, autographs are also signed "Al".
So, I have a question. Why is Alex being so cryptic? On other blogs, you almost get a play by play of the person's day, auditions etc.
The only thing that comes to mind is that things need to be firmed up first so he doesn't want to commit to saying anything. Though he does use the word, "unfortunately", which suggests he's not at liberty to say.
