But I don't have to let go of Mick. Mick exists, apart from Alex, on the dvds, in the fanfic, in the glorious screencaps, on the boards like this as long as these boards exist. I see Mick as almost a separate person. I didn't lose him or let him go when I saw The Shield. I saw a new person: Kevin Hiatt.wpgrace wrote:But you're right mwj... it's the Moonlight fans who will have to let go of Mick... temporarily at least... and give him his moment.
I've written about this before somewhere but when I see Alex, in character, I see the character. It's not the same thing as seeing Robert Redford. Any role I've seen him in it's 'Robert Redford playing whoever'. He never overcomes the Robert Redfordness for me. When I see Alex, in a part that's big enough to develop a sense of character, I see that character. I think that's his talent and gift as an actor.
I don't know if this will hold if the CM character is truly loathsome. The Mentalist character is so creepy to me that I can't watch Simon Baker any more at all. Gives me pause when I think of Alex's new project which I might not like! I have to go on faith and trust Alex's talent to disappear into a role so I won't lose him. But I think Mick is safe!
