Well, even if she had been exactly who she claimed...Morgan Vincent...she had no real reason to treat Mick very politely. He hadn't been exactly polite to her, as she rightfully points out. I think, however, it was less rude than direct. She's expressing an opinion. Not terribly diplomatically.

Maybe but direct is not what I would use. Maybe abrasive? After all Morgan had only met Mick a couple of times and he apologized for his behavior. Subtlety was not one of Morgan's stronger attributes :snicker:

DC, you're perfectly entitled to dislike Morgan/Coraline, but c'mon... sheesh! Mick ran her down and tore her clothes off! In a way, he's lucky that Morgan WAS Coraline, because if she'd been a human she would have charged him with assault. Morgan had no reason to be polite to Mick, and since Coraline was pretending to be Morgan, she acted pretty understandably, I think.

Also, in my opinion, Morgan's comment wasn't really all that rude. It was an unflattering commentary on LA culture, by someone who's supposedly from a city (Chicago) where there is a lot less emphasis put on bodily perfection.

So... let's drop this, OK? We're all entitled to our opinions, but we need to keep this conversation respectful and non-inflammatory.

it's really interesting how we have such different takes on things. I thought Morgan's "body image freaks" aside was hilarious, and was an indication of the uncomformist attitude that made her stand out in the crowd. Lots of girls are beautiful, but to keep Mick's attention a girl has to have something other than that as well. I got a sense that this devil-may-care, unconformist girl was the one Mick fell in love with. She really kept him on his toes in this scene, totally off balance.

This, I think, is what their whole relationship was like.... Coraline running the show and Mick running to keep up! Poor boy looked totally bemused and befuddled. Priceless!

I haven't gone back to read the differing opinions. But I agree with Luna Deluxe. That line was really funny, especially the way she said it under her breath, a commentary on the LA lifestyle, later to be repeated in Click, and also referenced in NSTAV ("People in LA don't walk!") and it gave the impression she wasn't from LA but Mick being from LA and not eating, well that must be the reason. I loved line.

I found the "body image freaks" line to be pretty funny too! Mick looked rather amused by it as well. ;) In fact, he looked to be intrigued and amused by her during the entire lunch.

Luxe, I think you summed up their relationship nicely...Coraline running the show and Mick running to keep up!

As an aside, Shannyn looked beautiful in this scene. And I loved that they were seated outside as he watches her drink and chomp on her fries while bathed in full sunlight! :snicker:

I looked at that comment from a different standpoint - as something that would be said by a vampire who has no clue as to what human woman go through to conform to the ideals of 'beauty'.

The look over the sunglasses.

That's all I can concentrate on in this scene, I'm afraid.

I know, Red. That look is priceless. He does it twice and I actually debated on whether I should cap both times. I knew there wouldn't be any complaints.

yup... I'm totally with you Red and GA about the over the top of the sunnies look. He's being informal with her doing that, I think. I think he slips into their old comfort level quite quickly given the fact that he thinks he (a) made a crispy critter out of her three decades ago, and (b) thinks she's now human.

And GA, I can see why you say that about the 'body image' comment. After I posted I did have a think about how a vampire might see L.A. For the most part though, I thought the comment was a sly dig at the L.A. entertainment fraternity by the writers.

Now having seen this particular scene in the ep a lot thanks to my MickCora vids, I have to say that the chemistry is amazing in this scene. Morgan is very appealing here. There is an intrigue to her and Mick sees it. Beth likes her too so that has to say something about the way she comes across. I find it quite an amusing scene and I really get a sense of the 30 year history there is supposed to be between them. There is a comfort level there and it was pretty instant. Yes, he's suspicious of her due to the fact he thought she was dead but there is most definitely interest in her there too.

Moonlight is never simple and that is one of the things I adore about it most.

I am in total agreement, coco. I think he definitely feels something. I tell you, I've always suspected he feels a little attracted to Morgan in this scene. The line about thinking the case was sordid -- but in a good way -- had me in stitches and he seemed to find it amusing too. Morgan's fun. I can understand why Beth liked her too. She's full of spunk ( .... just waiting for a cross cultural misunderstanding to occur about that line).

Exactly, Luxe. She's the first female character to build a connection with Beth that has that same spark that Beth has. She's fiesty and fun like Beth and I can see Beth being drawn to that in a female friend. Mick definitely likes her in this scene.

As such a fan of Beth, I think this is why I find this ep hard to watch. No matter what happens between Mick and Morgan here, it's more what I see this doing to Beth by the end of the ep but I'm jumping ahead so I'm shutting up now.

:giggle: GA... your captions are even more delightful than the actual dialogue on the show... which is hard to do for this scene, one of the most delightful little interchanges in the series for me.... As Alle said, there's just so many layers of complicated here.

WE know Morgan is Cora... but what we DON'T know is if MICK really knows she's Cora. I like what Alex said in the SFX commentaries that Mick kinda had to know... he didn't want to play Mick as stupid. :phew:

We DO see their chemistry, and the draw they had to one another. She starts out "mad" with him, but "caves" with his apology, which she makes him state explicitly, and enjoys lunch on his dime --isn't that just like a woman?? And btw I've done that...

And I thought the body image freaks line was HILARIOUS! :rolling: She's a vamp in her character's real life, so no worries. She's an actress in her REAL real life and while she's skinny as a rail, does the actual Shannyn ever purge or starve to stay that way? So clever, cute line... and particularly funny that the WOMAN at the dining table says it to the hunky MAN. He's the anorexic or zone diet or purge diet or macrobiotic or vegan or raw foodie (really blood sucker of course) eater at the table, not the red meat eating, french fry munching, wine gulping girl... Cute!

But yeah, carpaccio and fries? I guess it's been awhile since she last took the cure and she's not hip to the latest food combos... ya know, back in the 1920s, it was fashionable for awhile to have a meal alllllll the same color.... :snicker:

What bothered me about the line and the way Morgan delivered it is the trend to depict professional women who are successful in a male-dominated field as kind of smart a%&, rough around the edges.

And Alle, please! Inflammatory? All I said was that I didn't care about Morgan's character and explained some of the reasons. Peace
