All I Want for Christmas Is You (One-shot, G, MickBeth)

I don't own Moonlight or any of its characters. I also have nothing to do with Mariah Carey or this song. Having it run over and over through my head is enough.
"All I Want For Christmas Is You" Listen
Beth put on some Christmas music and began to decorate her apartment. When Mariah Carey’s song came on, she sang aloud to the empty room.
I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas
Is you
She couldn’t help thinking about Mick – about her and Mick. She thought things had been going along quite well since he first told her he loved her ‘right here – right now,’ but as the holidays approached she felt him pulling away and didn’t know why.
I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
And I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas Day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
You baby
She sighed and reached for another ornament. She had asked Mick if he wanted to come help decorate her tree thinking that it would be fun and just a little romantic. But he had come up with yet another lame excuse and she let the subject drop. She wondered if it was her – was he reverting to his ‘dangerous, difficult and complicated’ attitude again? Had she done something to push him away without realizing it? Or was it the Christmas season itself? She hated to be alone at Christmas, but maybe after so many years alone he found it difficult to open up and let someone in.
Oh I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow
And I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeer click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do?
Baby all I want for Christmas is you
You
She wiped a stray tear. Yes, she did wish he was here holding her so tight. There was no point in denying it. Didn’t he know how she felt about him? She couldn’t imagine her life without him.
Oh all the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need?
Won't you please bring my baby to me?
She moved things off of her mantle so she could lay out a garland. She picked up the picture of Mick – the one she took on her phone at the beach, her favorite of him – and stood holding it as she sang along with the next verse.
Oh I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Mick had indeed been standing right outside Beth’s door. He had arrived just as she started to sing the Mariah Carey song. He smiled at first, but when he sensed her sadness he quietly opened the door and slipped inside, standing in her small foyer. Her back was to him as she decorated and sang, unaware of her audience of one. Listening to the words of the song and aware that Beth was becoming more emotional, he hung his head, knowing he was the cause of her sadness.
Ever since becoming a vampire he had a difficult time at Christmas. It reminded him of his home and his mother and all the things he lost that he would never get back. His mother loved to go to church on Christmas Eve and he couldn’t even bring himself to do that, feeling that he would be unwelcome in such a holy place. His relationship with Beth was still so new that he wasn’t sure how she would react if he shared this part of his life with her. But he had missed her so much these last weeks that he finally realized sharing with her would bring the comfort he was seeking, yet thought was beyond his reach. He had come over to tell her so, and now he wanted to kick himself for causing her pain.
Oh I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is
You baby
All I want for Christmas is you baby
All I want for Christmas is you baby
All I want for Christmas is you baby
As the song died away Mick spoke up. “You’re all I want for Christmas, too.”
Beth spun around at the sound of his voice, so startled she almost dropped the frame with Mick’s picture she had been holding. “Mick!” she cried. “How long have you been standing there?”
Mick walked over to her, took the picture out of her hands and took her into his arms. “Long enough to know what a fool I’ve been these past couple of weeks,” he said as he kissed the top of her hair. The familiar scent of her shampoo had a calming effect on him. “I’m sorry I withdrew from you. Christmas is just a hard time of year for me and I should have…”
“You’re here now,” Beth interrupted, looking up into his eyes. “That’s all that matters.”
Mick leaned down to kiss her. “I’ve missed you,” he whispered. “More than you could ever know.”
“I’ve missed you, too,” Beth whispered in return, smiling. “I guess there really is a Santa Claus.”
The end.
