I don't usually do poetry, but I'll try anything for Mick.


Because

I loved you the moment you put your tiny arms around my neck and trusted me to take you safely back to your mother’s waiting arms.

Because of that trust, you made me see that I could use my powers for good, to protect the helpless and the innocent. You gave purpose to my once meaningless life.

Because of that trust, you made me want to go on living.

Because I wanted to go on living, I no longer cursed the darkness, for you were the light that showed me the way.

Though I stayed in the shadows, I followed your light, because watching you laugh, cry, grow, learn, stumble and fall, only to pick yourself back up stronger and more determined than before, made me stronger too.

Because I was stronger, I came out of the shadows and let you see me and my heart soared because you remembered me in the recesses of your mind.

Because you did not run away when I trusted you with my secret, my love for you continued to grow. You saved me and I saved you and our love silently blossomed.

When you told me you couldn’t do this anymore, I thought my love was strong enough to walk away from you.

I was wrong. Because my love for you was too strong to walk away and so I came back.

And I was strong enough then to say it out loud.

“Because I love you.”

Oh, this is just wonderful.

I really liked the way you tied this in with one of my favourite pieces of dialogue, MLC, nicely done. It had a great, fluid vibe about it too... the narrative kept surging forward and it carried us along with it.

What a great way to show how Beth and Mick's relationship has progressed over time. Everything happened because of something else.

And what a beautiful valentine it is. You've captured the story of Mick and Beth here, from the very beginning to the moment the door closed. It's why their love will endure despite all the difficulty, danger, and complications. Because he loves her, and always has.
