Tokens

Love had always seemed like such an empty word to Coraline. After all, countless men had proclaimed their “love” to her throughout the centuries. They’d left once they’d gotten what they’d wanted, and only their gifts remained - jewels, coins, silks, furs, and more.

They meant very little. Tokens of appreciation. Payments for services rendered.

Mick? Well, Mick had brought her gifts too, of course. Silly trinkets. Flowers. Sentimental notes. She’d laughed at some of them openly, enjoying Mick’s mumbled apologies that he couldn’t afford more.

But she’d kept them all just the same.

Even after the fire…she’d kept them.

A/N: I hope you enjoyed it, and of course, please let me know what you think!

Take care and God bless!

Very nicely done! :rose:

The gifts Coraline received from the other men may have been expensive, but, as you said, they were just tokens of appreciation.

On the other hand, the gifts Mick gave to Coraline were inexpensive. However, they were heartfelt tokens of love, and she has kept them all these years.

Great contribution to the challenge, Laughter!

I really like this. :hearts: Mick's gifts and notes are true love-tokens. No wonder they mean more to her than those fine things that have no real meaning.

Mick's love was true, and Coraline never had that. This is great.

Amazingly done, Laughter... Coraline..she never changes. She somehow appreciates Mick 's gifts and keeps them even after the fire..Yet, she still considers 'love' to be an empty word. No wonder...
