During the month of December, animated signature banners are allowed on this site.

Please keep your banner animations simple and your file sizes as small as possible, since large and/or complex animated banners can be a real problem for people with older computers or slow connections! Apart from the animations, the usual banner rules apply.

I'm not even gonna try to be subtle--HM, darling, sweetie-pie, love of my life, maker of all my banners, Shelburnistan-sister: PLEASE craft me an animated banner, if you have the time. You know what I like at this point, so I don't need to be specific!

HM made me a gorgeous animated banner and I can't wait for you all to see it, but I don't know how to install it. Whenever I try, it just shows as a non-animated banner. Any help is most appreciated.

Fleur, once the banner is in PhotoBucket, you install it the same way you would for any banner. I can't imagine why it's not working.

Somehow it copied as a JPG and not a GIF file, Lilly. I'm trying to help Fleur through PMs, so hopefully she'll get a chance later to get it working. Thanks for the assist.

I don't know, I'm kinda liking the 'blank' banner. It is quite gorgeous, Fleur. Leaves much to the imagination.

Anyway, I do have a question... When you say "animated" do you mean only .gif files? Just wondering if other file formats are allowed, such as .avi, .mov, .mpg, etc. Keeping file sizes in mind, of course. I didn't find anything about permissible file formats in the Banner/Avi Guidelines post in the help section. I can do a very simple three-photo slideshow at Smilebox, but the only file option to save it as is a .mov. I like the little animation it does before the photos, so wanted to use that instead of one of the online .gif makers that do the same thing.

To be honest, I'm not sure! We don't allow attachments here (it fills up our limited filespace very fast). However, if you can put it somewhere like Photobucket, and link to it using [IMG] tags, it ought to work!
