Title: Elegy

Summary: Closure. He'd only wanted closure.
A/N: Written for Champagne Challenge #159: Seven Lines, Seven Sentences.
I wound up inspired to explore a little more about the St. John family, and Mick's brother, Andrew. If you want to read more about Andrew, he's in my other seven-sentence fic, Best Wishes. He's also mentioned in my older one-shot, Bloodties. Andrew's daughter, Lisa, is the focus of Namesake, and Mick's mother is mentioned in Visiting Hours.
As always, I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is the source of all inspiration.

Elegy
1962
Andrew had arranged for the grave because he’d been hoping it would offer the family closure.
Well, okay, he’d done it because he needed closure - after all, Mick had been gone for almost ten years, but Andrew kept seeing him out of the corner of his eye, and more than once, Mick had disappeared just before Andrew could call his name.
None of it could have been real, though, because Mick never looked a day older than he had at his wedding, and tempting as it was to imagine that Mick was just off with his beautiful wife somewhere, Andrew knew it wasn’t true.
So, he’d invested in a plot of land, a slab of marble, and a few etched words that could never do his brother’s life justice.
But, it was hard to feel any sense of closure when he’d arrived at the cemetery one night to see his brother’s specter standing over the grave that was supposed to be his.
“Mick?” Andrew whispered, his throat tight.
The phantom hesitated for just a moment, then turned and faded silently into the shadows.

This is wonderful. I always wonder what his family would have done after he became a vampire and just vanished out of their lives.

What a lovely, sad story. It makes me want to hug both of them! Poor Andrew... and poor Mick, having to fade away.

This is wonderful!
And there is so much of it stretching out before and after the words--we see Mick as the sad shadow, seen only out of the corner of the eye, disappearing whem he senses a jump in a heartbeat signaling he'd been seen.
There are so many unanswered questions here, yet Mick ony hesitated btiefly before he was gone again. He thought thry weren't part of the same world any more. It would take years for him to realize that the world was wider and wilder than he'd ever imagined.
Well done!
Thank you!!

This is really good, LM. You pull so much out of those seven lines. Well done.
