A young college student falls hard for Josef and tries to destroy his life. :gasp:

Since turning over the running of Kostan Industries to Brian Josef didn't really know what to do with himself. He'd pop in to see if Brian needed any guidance, but he had everything under control. He went over to visit Mick but he was busy with a case. He even went to Gabriel's and found out that he was in court and Zoe and the girls went to Santa Barbara for the weekend. He pulled into the garage of his building. He was just parking his car when he saw a man wearing a mask grab a young woman.
Josef hurried out of his car and rushed towards the man. The man tried to grab the woman to use her as a shield but Josef got to him so very quickly and punched him the face. He heard the man's jaw snap. He ran to the woman who was a little bloodied and scratched up from the struggle.
"Are you alright?" Josef asked as he pulled her up from where she had fallen.
"I'm okay I think....."She stammered before she collapsed to the ground.

The paramedics asked Josef many questions, but he could tell them very little as they drove the woman away.

"Well, that was my good deed for the century" He said to himself as he took the elevator to his apartment.

"Mr Kostan?" Josef's secretary Bridgett rang. "You have a phone call from Miss Kathleen Ryan"
"I don't know anyone by that name" Josef replied quickly.
"Sir, she's calling from St. Vincent's General Hospital" Bridgett said. Annoyed because he still had no idea who was calling him, he told Bridgett to put the call through.
"Kostan" He said curtly.
"Mr. Kostan, I'm sorry for troubling you at your office, but my name is Kathleen Ryan and well....I wanted to thank you for saving my life" She said in a hurry. Josef remembered.
"Yes, Miss Ryan. I'm sorry I was so short with you. How are you feeling?" Josef asked very concerned for the young woman.
"I'm on the mend. Considering what could have happened if you hadn't arrived when you did, I think I'm pretty lucky. A cracked rib and a stitched lip was all. Some women....well I'm sure you know."
"Yes unfortunately I do know." Josef said.
"Mr. Kostan.......I know you're a busy man, but I was hoping maybe....you could...." she stammered out.
"Come for a visit? Of course I can. How about I stop by around 4pm. Before the dinner hour?"
"That sounds great Mr. Kostan!" she said.

Kathleen Margaret Ryan was what the boys on Chappaquiddick Island called a catch. She was a mother's wet dream. 5'6", a toned 119 pounds, strawberry blonde hair, straight-A student, Rhode scholar and played a mean game of tennis. But what the boys said the most about Kathleen was that she was "an ungettable get". She wasn't a tease or anything. She always told the truth and never let anyone on. She was in a word. Perfect. So most of the women on Martha's Vineyard, thought Kathleen would be snatched up pretty quickly, but Kathleen wasn't just smart. She was genius smart. At the age of 21, when most kids were jazzed about being of legal drinking age, Kathleen had already graduated college and had finished graduate school obtaining her Master's in Clinical Psychology. Boys were afraid to talk to her and girls were jealous of her. In the end she left Massachusetts for the West Coast to study under the renowned Dr. Samuel P. Smith. But she had a sheltered upbringing. Spring Formals, horseback riding lessons and coming out parties. Now she had just gotten her first taste of living in the urban jungle.

Josef arrived at the hospital at 4pm exactly. He walked into the room carrying a large bouquet of lilies.
"Miss Ryan." He said with a huge grin and handing over the flowers. "You're looking better" he said noticing the bruises to her face had subsided and you could see what a truly lovely young woman she was.
"Thank you Mr. Kostan. I just moved here and this was my welcome?" She joked.
"I hope this doesn't sour your feeling of the West Coast."
"No one takes a beating better than the Irish!" she said laughing but it hurt her ribs. Josef ran to her side and held her hand.
"Easy now. You've got to take things easy. When are they releasing you?" Josef asked.
"They say on Wednesday I should be well enough to get around" She said with grimace.
"Look, let me talk to my wife. I'm sure we can put you up until you're healed." Josef said with a smile.
"Thank you for your kindness Mr. Kostan, but I don't want to become an imposition" She said shaking her head slowly.
"No imposition at all. We have more than enough room and we have a full time staff to look after your needs." Josef said.
"Well, thank you Mr. Kostan!" she replied "If you're sure it's okay, I'd love to. It would be rather hard getting around my apartment." She sighed.
"Now that that's settled, let me leave you to get some rest and I'll speak with your doctor." Josef said patting her hand softly and quietly walking out the door. Kathleen slowly reached for her laptop and googled Josef Kostan. For over an hour she read everything about her mysterious superhero. And he was perfect in every way. She closed her eyes slowly and she saw Josef Kostan.

Josef looked at Isabelle's face for a long moment. He could never tell if his beautiful wife was pleased or very annoyed. Either way, it was always exciting.
"So what do you think?" Josef asked.
"Josef, am I to tell you not to help this young woman? My darling, she has been through a very vicious assault, of course she may stay with us until she is healed." Isabelle said with a smile.
"Wait, your smiling. It's never good when you're smiling" Josef said quickly.
"Do not be silly, my darling. I think it is very noble that you saved this woman and want to make sure she is taken care of." Isabelle said. And after giving Josef a light kiss on the lips she left the room.
"That was strangely easy" Josef said to himself.

Kathleen spoke with her mother finally, telling her everything that had happened.
"Are you sure you're okay. Perhaps your father and I should fly over" she said
"No mother. You're just getting over your neck surgery. I will be in capable hands. I will be convalescing at the residence of Josef Kostan" Kathleen said. She heard her mother gasp.
"Josef Kostan!! How do you know him?" He mother said in confusion.
"He's the man who saved me. Mother, it was amazing. He got to me so fast I barely saw him."
"And are you sure he's only interested in your recovery? Look pumpkin, you know so very little about a large city like Los Angeles. Your father and I want you to be safe." She explained.
"Mother, Josef Kostan is a married man, so the only thing he's interested in is my recovery. I can't very well hobble about my apartment the way I am".

Kathleen spoke to her father for a few minutes who reiterated her mother's warnings, but said that she had to go. Josef would be coming for her soon. The nurse helped her into the new clothing that Josef had purchased for her. After struggling so much with the clothing, she found herself so tired. She was just going to shut her eyes for a moment, but she woke up suddenly to the smell of bacon and coffee.
She sat up and focused her eyes on her surroundings. She heard a faint knock on the door and in stepped the most beautiful woman she had ever seen.
"Hello. How are you feeling?" Isabelle said gently laying the tray table in front of her.
"I feel better.....I'm sorry. Are you Mrs. Kostan?" Kathleen asked nervously.
"I am but please call me Isabelle. Josef told me of your ordeal and I am so very sorry that it happened. But at least the bastard is in jail now." She said with just a touch of anger in her voice. Kathleen stared at the woman. So beautiful and charming. Even when she spewed forth the swear word, she said it with such grace.
Josef came in a moment later.
"I see you're finally awake." He said with a wide smile.
"Yes, I thought I felt fine but I suppose I was pushing myself a little too fast" Kathleen said.
"Well eat up. Dr. Francis will be here in 45 minutes to take a look at your injuries"
"Dr. Michael Francis?" Kathleen asked immediately recognizing the prominent doctor's name.
"The very same. So eat up and when you're finished just push that button on the nightstand and Rosa will come up to help you wash." Josef said.
"Again, than you for everything Mr. Kostan, Isabelle."

Kathleen sat back after they closed the door. She ate a piece of bacon and most of the fresh fruit. She looked around her opulent surroundings. Josef Kostan was indeed quite wealthy. Everything in the room she was staying in was the best and the finest. Kathleen of course was used to wealth. She came from a very old moneyed family who were distant third cousins to the Kennedy Family, so she had grown up around money and the power that came with it. But Josef Kostan was on an entirely different level. Billions upon billions of dollars.

Dr. Francis, came by later and examined her injuries. Her ribs still ached something awful so he gave her another shot of pain medication, but he said if she didn't overexert herself, she would be back to normal in another week. Josef came by to check on her. He looked so suave in his charcoal grey suit and black tie. Absolutely pristine. Not a single button undone, not a spot anywhere on the man. She found herself looking forward to the visits from Josef. Much more than she thought she would. And as the days went by Josef Kostan was all she could think about.

Kathleen felt remarkably well. Her ribs seemed to hurt less and walking for a short distance didn't cause her any pain. After bathing and getting dressed she decided to attempt leaving her very luxurious room.
She found the stairs and gingerly made her way down. Josef was in his livingroom speaking with a few men. Josef looked up as he heard her approaching.
"Kathleen. Glad to see you made it out of the bedroom." He joked. "Mick, Brian, I'd like to introduce you to Kathleen Ryan" Mick immediately walked up to shake her hand and offer her a seat on the sofa.
"Kathleen, it's a pleasure to meet you. I really sorry for what happened, but glad you're recovering"
"Yes. Josef has been very kind. Most people wouldn't have gone to the trouble." She said slowly taking a seat. Brian stood back watching the young woman. Mick knew that he sensed something. "Kathleen, this is my son Brian Petzer" Mick said. Brian approached the young woman and shook her hand slightly.
"It's a pleasure" He stoically said. Josef chuckled.
"Brian is a man of few words" He joked. "So, is there anything you needed?"
"I remembered you speaking of a library. I'd like to see it." She said hesitantly. Josef stood up immediately and held out his arm. "Mick, Brian, if you'll excuse me" He said walking away with the young woman. Mick wasted no time.
"What is it Brian?"
"I'm not sure dad, but something isn't right. Most people project the same brain waves. And depending on their mood those waves fluctuate. This woman.....her brain waves bounced all over the place. Like she was thinking of a million different things all at once."
"So that's not normal?"
"Well, there is no true normal when you're speaking about the brain, and it very well may mean nothing but it is unusual."

Josef's library was large and extensive. She walked around in awe at the number of first editions he owned.
"You read a lot apparently" She laughed.
"I've been doing a lot more reading since I haven't been running the company." He explained.
"Any favorites?"
"Right now, I've been reading the complete works of Charles Dickens. He's a favorite of mine." Josef said with a chuckle remembering how he and Charles spent many a night talking into the wee hours.
"I never would have pegged you for a Dicken's devotee" Katherine said aloud.
"Really? What then?"
"George Orwell" She said definitely.
"Orwell? Really?" Josef said in surprise.
"Perhaps, I simply don't know you well enough. Perhaps if I knew you better, I could give you a better answer" She said with a seductive smile.

Josef looked at the young woman with amusement. Josef was always amused at women flirting with him, but it always stopped after they got a glance at Isabelle.
"Well I suppose there is some sense in that. You know Robert Lang from the D.A.'s office will be here tomorrow to go over your testimony so let's focus on that shall we?" Josef said with a grin.
"As you wish Mr. Kostan" She said as she turned to go back to her bedroom. "But you're missing out" she said before walking out of the room.

Isabelle was just coming into the apartment.
"Hello my darling" She said as she walked into his outstretched arms.
"I missed you." He said kissing her deeply. Kathleen watched from over the staircase. She could certainly see the attraction. Isabelle was breathtakingly beautiful no doubt, but altogether her and Josef seemed to be a mismatched pair. She was sure their marriage would crumble in a very short time. So she had no remorse whatsoever on what she was planning.

Kathleen knew he was an attorney before Josef made the introduction. Robert Lang was in his early 50's, a kind of defeated manor with hunched shoulders. Here was a man who had seen the worst of Los Angeles and it had taken it's toll. He opened his briefcase and pulled out the file.
"Alright Miss Ryan, I have your statement from the Police. Is there anything, you'd like to add?"
"Only that if Mr. Kostan had not arrived when he did, I would most definitely be dead"
"I really don't think you should be nervous or anything. The case is open and shut. The perp is going to jail for a long while." Robert said to her.
"Yes...of course...." She said nervously. Robert saw the expression on her face and knew something was terribly wrong.
"Miss Ryan, is there something else bothering you?" He asked. She looked around with a scared look in her eye.
"I want to go home" She whispered.
"To your apartment? I don't see why that would an issue..." He began to say.
"He won't let me...." she said holding her head down.
"Who? Mr. Kostan? What do you mean? He's holding you here against your will? For what purpose?" Robert asked in surprise. A single tear rolled down Kathleen's cheek.
"He.......makes......don't make me say" she said putting her face in her hands. She sobbed. Robert was shocked! He knew about the reputation of Josef Kostan,I mean who hadn't? The man was legendary, but taking advantage of someone your pretending to help?
"What about his wife?" Robert asked.
"It's always when she's away" Kathleen lied. Robert pulled out his cell phone and called Lt. Carl Davis.

"I'm sorry, say that again!" Carl asked in complete surprise. Did the District Attorney just tell him that Josef Kostan had raped a woman? That's not right Carl said to himself. But Robert repeated what he said and added that he was obtaining a search warrant and it would be ready by the time that he and his men arrived at the residence. Carl hung up the phone. There was no way in hell he would believe this.
After thinking for about 12 seconds he immediately called Mick and Josef.

Kathleen was taken to L.A. General and given a rape kit. After an hour the nurse came out to speak with the D.A.

"Well, what's the verdict?" Robert asked the nurse.
"There is some bruising on her vaginal area. It looks to be penetration with a foreign object. No trace DNA found there, but we did find some hairs on her body. We're running DNA, results should be back in a bout a week."
"How is she mentally?" Robert wanted her to full work up so she would be ready for trial.
"I'm no psychologist, but she's shaken of course but she answered our questions and assisted in her treatment without any trauma. I'd say she's a strong young woman." The nurse said walking away.

Carl was at Josef's apartment with Isabelle and Mick.
"Josef, what can you tell me about this girl?" Carl said anxiously
"Carl, I don't know anything about her honestly. She was attacked, I handled the guy and waited until your guys showed up. I gave my statement, said I would testify at the hearing and that's it. Kathleen called me about a week afterwards, she had cracked ribs, she would be no good fending on her own, I invited her to stay with me and Isabelle until she felt well enough to go back to her apartment. I wasn't even here most of the time." Josef explained. Carl looked at Isabelle.
"I personally do not know when Josef would have found the time for carnal relationships. He had several meetings in Santa Barbara, La Jolla and San Francisco. The girl is lying." Mick spoke up quickly.
"Carl, this may be nothing but we gotta try everything. Brian had some weird feelings about her. He said it was hard to explain but he said her brain wasn't operating like normal or something along those lines." Carl heard the patrol cars pull up.
"Josef! Do you have any place you can go for a while. I'll do what I can on this end." He said quickly.
"I'm not going to duck this Carl. I appreciate the offer, but I can't" Josef said holding up his wrists. He nodded at Isabelle and she flew through the house gathering the more questionable items and hiding the things that could not be explained.
"Josef Kostan! This is the LAPD! Open up!" They heard a voice yell to them. Carl snapped on the cuffs and walked Josef to the door and opened it up.
"Relax! Relax! He's going in for questioning" Carl said as he took Josef away. Mick and Isabelle watched the scene out the window. The press were pushing forward to get a glimpse of Josef being led to a police cruiser in handcuffs.

The Ryans flew into Los Angeles to be beside their daughter during this trying ordeal. The press had a field day on the story. Each day there was a new headline.
"Josef Kostan Charged with Rape" followed by a photo of Kathleen looking sad and vulnerable with her parents comforting her.

"I simply don't believe this!" Beth said to her station Manager.
"Look, Beth I know this is hitting close to home for you, but I don't trust anyone else with this story. Kostan won't talk to anyone. No interviews, so statements, nothing. But you're a dear friend. He'll talk to you. Maybe you can get to the truth" Gary explained.
"The truth! So you're saying Josef's lying?!" Beth yelled.
"Beth come on! This is Josef Kostan we're talking about! He's had every maiden in the village so to speak, something like this was bound to happen."

Beth stared at Gary for a moment. Then she walked into her small office and started throwing things into a box. Gary was startled. He knew Beth wouldn't want to do the interview, but he didn't think she'd quit.
"You know Gary, I just realized something. In spite of Josef's so called "reputation" he has always treated women with the utmost respect. Always! Josef Kostan has more integrity and honor than any man I have ever met. And certainly more than a sleazy station manager who wants to tear people's lives apart to feed to masses for rating!" She said loudly and stormed out of the station. Beth loved being a news reporter. It has always been her dream. But she had to take a stand. And she would be damned if she fed her best friend to wolves!

Kathleen sat in her hotel room that her parents insisted she stay in. She stared at Josef's photo on the cover of the Times. There was something so intriguing about this man. When her parent came in she realized that she had been staring at the photo for over two hours!
"Kathy, what are doing looking at this man's photo?" He mother said coming to take the paper out of her hand. Kathleen jerked the paper back quickly.
"I want to keep this!" she said sharply. Both her parents looked at her in surprise. "This is mine okay."
Her father sat down next to.
"Of course. Everyone needs to face the things and people who've hurt us. That's how we heal." He said in a tender voice. Kathleen took the newspaper and went into the bedroom and shut the door.

"Oh Edward! What has that monster don't to our daughter" Her mother sobbed quietly.

Josef had been in jail before. Many times in the past. In some ways they had much improved, but overall jail was jail. Isabelle had been fantastic at getting him the blood he needed. But today was his bail hearing and after pleading not guilty, the Judge set bail at $1,000.000.00, which Isabelle arranged for quite easily. He had to turn over his passport and both the corporate jet and his boat were seized less he tried to jump bail. As his attorney escorted him out, with Isabelle at his side the press tried to push forward, all asking questions at one.
"Mr. Kostan, why did you rape Miss Ryan?" one reporter asked.
"I didn't" Josef replied.
"So you're saying she's making this up?" Another asked.
"Yes" Josef said simply.
"But why would she do this? Why make up such a lie?" Another reported asked.
"I've given up trying figure out why people do most of the things they do." Josef said. "None of this makes sense." He said walking away to his limo. Harold his driver made sure no one got within 5 feet of the car as opened the door for Mr. Kostan.

Brian had been in New York for the past two weeks but heard the news just before his flight. Unbelieveable! He changed his plans and flew to Martha's Vineyard instead.

Martha's Vineyard was gorgeous. He hired a driver to take him all around the tiny island. His first stop was the records department. He told the clerk that he was doing a complete genealogy on the oldest families on the island. Old money loved being recognized so much they didn't even ask for identification. Brian went to work.

Kathleen stayed in her hotel room not coming out. She had heard that Josef had been bailed out. She expected that. All she needed now was a way to see him alone. Surely his wife would be gone. No self respecting woman would stay under those conditions. Now Josef was all alone. She would have to take better care of herself. She had refused meals to drop some pounds and look more frazzled, but if she was going to Josef Kostan she would have to look her best. She called room service and ordered a huge lunch!

Brian, spoke to an array of people who all started with the same phrase.
"They are a wonderful family.....but" There was always but in every sentence. One young man who went to private school with Kathleen said it best.
"No one ever had anything against Kat. I mean she was kind of perfect. But the reason she didn't have any friends is because you never felt like she was completely honest with you. I mean she was nice, but it was like she got enjoyment out of lying to people. Like just seeing if she could get away with it."
"Did she come from a damaged home?" Brian asked.
"Not that we could see. Her mom was a little hysterical. She'd freak out if Kat was just two minutes late on any given day. Like close to calling the FBI or something. I think that's why Kat got into psychiatry. She thought her mom was nuts"
"Was she?"
"Not howling at the moon nuts, but something wasn't right about her. She was anal about keeping things tidy. In the summer we'd be drinking lemonade and every time we took a drink and sat the glass down, she'd immediately get up and wipe the condensation off the table. Every time! My grandfather said she was abused or something, but he always got things wrong"

Brian was beginning to see a pattern unfolding.

Josef was becoming restless. He didn't like having his lifestyle altered. He surfed the television stations and almost every one had a story on him. He threw the remote down and laid back on the sofa. How did this all happen? Was she angry because he didn't seduce her? Seems a bit extreme over a hurt ego.

Kathleen Looked at herself in the mirror. She looked more like she used to. The dark circles under her eyes were gone. Her cheeks were a bit fuller and her hair was perfect. Her parents were asleep and wouldn't be up for a while. She picked up her dad's car keys and walked down the stairwell and out the service door of the hotel. She quickly got in the car and pulled out. Josef Kostan, here I come.

Beth was furious at Gary for even suggesting that Josef would do something so heinous! Even a couple of weeks late she was still fuming. Her phone rang and thinking it was Mick she immediately picked it up.
"Hey babe, what's up?" She said with a smile.
"I used to fantasize that you called me babe, but not so much now" Steve's familiar voice said to her.
"Steve, sorry. I thought you were Mick" She said.
"Beth listen. Gary was pissed that you quit, but he's determined to get a story on Josef. He sent a team over to his penthouse but I thought I would be better to check on this Kathleen chick. She's dressed to nines and just left her hotel and the way she headed looks like a direct line for Josef's place." Steve explained.
Where are you now?" Beth asked anxiously.
"We're turning on highway 5 as we speak."
"Steve, stay on her! I'll be there as quick as I can" Beth said hanging up the phone and running out the door.

Steve followed the mercedes close enough to know where she was headed but far enough to not spook her. He saw a small black car pulling up fast beside him and saw it was Beth. How did she get here so fast? He asked himself and then remembered he was in the news van which was slower than molasses and Beth had a pretty sweet BMW roadster.

Kathleen was so excited. Never in her life had she ever been this excited about anything. Certainly not over a man. At best she thought men were entertaining, as their worst she thought they were ridiculous. But Josef Kostan was the first man she could not find comical in any way. He looked like the typical billionaire playboy, but he was fiercely intelligent and knowledgeable on an array of different subjects. Kathleen had ascertained the situation and really no one would believe Josef Kostan cheated on a wife that looked like his. The woman was beyond stunning. But a rape would shame and disgust her to the point where she would have to leave him. The statistics on women staying with their husbands after the allegation of rape were in her favor. Only 22%! She checked out her reflection in the rearview mirror and liked very much what she saw!

Kathleen pulled up to the massive high rise again admiring the large structure. She parked in the back of the building, placed her large sunglasses over her face and used the back service elevator.

Brian had finally left Martha's Vineyard, and was on his way back to Los Angeles, but he had one more stop to make. Dr. Samuel Smith.

Steve and Beth pulled up to Josef's building with no problem. The security guards knew both her and Steve and let them in without hesitation. Steve loaded his camera.
"Steve, come with me. Harry's going to take us through maintenance. It a straight shot to Josef's place.

Dr. Samuel Smith was one of the most regarded shrinks in all of California.
"What can I do for you Mr. Petzer?" He asked calmly.
"Dr. I know you may have a problem with this line of questioning, but it's about Kathleen Ryan." Brian said.
"Yes. I wondered when someone would get around to asking me about her."
"What can you tell me?"
"If she were a patient of mine, I would have her committed" He said quietly.
"What's wrong with her?"
"Kathleen is brilliant without a doubt. Her diagnosis were always spot on and she embraced the act of getting to the root of a mental illness. But when it came time for the students to diagnose each other Kathleen had a real problem with that. Her partner John Bruckner, in my opinion did a very sound diagnosis, certainly no reason for her to behave the way she had. After that incident, I could tell her days were numbered at the institute. She wouldn't become a doctor. Not a psychiatrist in any case."
"Are you amazed by her allegations?" Brian asked standing up.
"I know nothing of Josef Kostan you understand but knowing Kathleen, something of this nature sounds.....well let's just say that I wouldn't put it past her. She has most likely found something that she herself was lacking and found it in Mr. Kostan. And the only way to get it, would be destroy his life or at least make it miserable enough where she would have to save him, therefore ensuring that she could be with him forever."

Kathleen had made it past security with no problems. Good thing she paid close attention to everything when she was staying here. The elevator took a lifetime to arrive at the penthouse levels. Kathleen, held the bottle of champagne tightly in her hands. She squared her shoulders and smiled brightly before knocking on the door.

Josef was talking to one of his clients in Spain assuring them that the situation was under control and everything would be back to normal in a few days. Hanging up the phone and swearing under his breath, he heard the service elevator ring. No one is ever allowed to use that elevator with exception to his security team. Josef slowly and very quietly waited until he had the culprit in view. It was Beth. He'd know here perfume anywhere.
"Josef. Are you here?" She called out. Josef walked into the hallway and saw her and Steve approaching.
"Listen Beth, I'm not up for any interviews...." He started to say.
"Josef. Stop talking!" Beth said placing her hand over his mouth. "Kathleen is on her way up here. Steve and I followed her here. Look Josef, whatever you do, don't provoke her. Steve will be filming the whole thing" Beth said. Steve was messing with his equipment.
"Josef, I know crazy chicks. Ask Beth. The one thing you gotta say is I'm sorry. Even if you don't know what it is. Just say, "honey, I'm so sorry. I didn't know" Steve was saying. Josef was looking at him, not sure what to say.
"Listen to him Josef. He actually knows what he's talking about on this" Beth said obviously knowing first hand what kinds of girls Steve had known.

The doorbell rang and Josef ran his fingers through his hair and answered the door.
"Josef!" Kathleen said with a bright smile. She held up the bottle of Moet Chandon "Let's call a truce"
Josef said nothing but held the door open wider so she could come in. "Are we alone?"
"Yes Kathleen. Isabelle has gone.." before he could finish Kathleen squealed and threw her arms around him.
"I knew she wouldn't stand with you on something like this. I knew it. Listen Josef, you need to understand that we need to be together. You know that right. After all I've done. I did it for us."
"Kathleen, you've ruined my reputation, clients are pulling their contracts." Josef said.
"Josef, don't worry about money. People will come back to you after a while. That's the way new money is. They always need more and they know you are the only person who can get it for them. So don't worry about that"
"Kathleen, what do you think is going to happen?" He asked with amusement. Kathleen saw the twinkle in his eyes. He didn't appear to scared at all.
"Well, my wish, my goal is that I will be your wife. You will tell me all your secrets for how you do the things you do. The power you hold. How does it work?"
"You're a very pretty young woman, you don't know anything about power?" Josef said with smirk.
"You're talking about sex. That's not power. That's distraction. I'm talking about captivating power."
Josef started to walk towards the bar to pour himself a drink.
"Kathleen. I don't know how to answer your question." He said sipping his drink.
Kathleen pulled out the pistol and placed it to her temple.
"Josef don't make me use this. Everyone will say you did this to me."
"Kathleen, I did nothing but try and help you after an attack."
"Now I want you to help me some more. Just tell me how you do it, and I will run to the D.A. and tell them I lied. I promise I will." When Beth heard that she motioned for Steve to turn off the camera.
Beth came around the corner.
I think I'll tell the D. A. myself" Beth said with a smile.

Kathleen turned and saw Beth standing behind her. Josef took the opportunity to rush her and take the gun away from her. Kathleen seeing that she had no more options stopped and started to take in all of her surroundings.
"It didn't have to be this way Josef. We would have been perfect for one another. We could have owned this world. Businesses, politics, world organizations, it all would have been ours" She said looking at Josef with eyes wide and crazed. Spying the huge ornate glass mirror to her right she sped off at high speed and ran straight into it. Glass shattered everywhere. Josef ran to her shaking body. She had a very large shard of glass deep in her neck. Josef propped her head up gently.
"I love you Josef. I've never said that to anyone before. But I love you" She said then closed her eyes and Josef felt her heart stop.

"Josef, I'm so sorry" Beth said. Steve walked over camera still in hand.
"Beth, I know you said to stop filming, but I kept going. We definitely have enough to free Josef of all wrong doing" Steve said.

Josef said nothing. He just stared at Kathleen's lifeless body and wondered how all of this could go so wrong. Brian came rushing through the door and viewed the scene. He walked over towards Josef.
"Sir, we must call the police." he said softly.

Again all the world was hearing the latest news on Josef Kostan. The D.A. apologized publicly but was very discreetly relocated to another district in California. The Ryans quietly moved away from Martha's Vineyard to an undisclosed location. They were going to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Josef Kostan but when the video footage was shown, they knew that any further action was not warranted.

Everything went back to normal as if Kathleen Ryan never existed. But for Josef things would never be the same. A woman with a promising future ended her life horrifically right in front of him for reasons he still couldn't fathom. Isabelle summed it up with words she had spoken to him before.
"Must all women want you so desperately my darling?"

And for the first time, he didn't have a smug reply.

The End
