Looks like Jason has a new recurring gig in the CW series, The Originals. He won't be playing a vamp this time, though -- he's a vamp hunter.

He'll start in the Season 3 premiere on October 8. And it looks like he'll be sticking around a while. According to TVLine, his character "gradually becomes more aware of New Orleans’ supernatural goings-on as the season progresses..."

COOL I'll be watching for sure waiting for his character to Vamp Out.

JK Jason will rock a vampire Hunter though not as sexy as a vampire, but then he doesn't have to be a Vamp to be sexy.

OMG OMG OMG! And to think I promised someone I'd watch The Originals...I think I might just keep that promise!

WOOHOO!! Now I'll have to catch up somehow...

I actually recently bought the 1st season, and have the second season pre-ordered. It's supposed to be out Sept. 1

Moving to Originals, one of the new faces the show is bringing on is Jason Dohring. What can you share about how his Detective Kinney will fit into the canvas?

You know what's so funny: I love [Veronica Mars executive producers] Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero, but I never watched Veronica Mars. I only knew Jason Dohring because [Vampire Diaries executive producer] Kevin [Williamson] loved him so much on [the short-lived CBS drama] Moonlight. And then I realized, he's Logan that everyone talks about from Veronica Mars. I feel like I'm very lucky to have the person that so many people fell in love with in the past decade.

Jason's character is decidedly human. It's a nice breath of fresh air. He plays a detective. There is a crime that happens in the first episode, and he comes in to investigate it. He's working closely with some of our characters. The question is, how much does he know or not know about what's going on in the supernatural world? And what's going to happen to him as a result of digging too deep?

Oh, goodness, I can HARDLY WAIT!

Love that phrase about Jason being the person that "so many people fell in love with" --it's so true!

He is going to knock this role out of the park. I can feel it.

And yes, that's a perfect description of him! And how cool that Kevin Williamson loved him in Moonlight!

I realize I'm biased (just a little), but I just don't know how anyone wouldn't love Jason.

So, I've started watching The Originals, and I'm about halfway through the first season. It's not bad--a little dark and gritty, and there's a whole lot of vampire politics going on. If you don't mind a little more gore, it's watchable.

Basic story is that the family of "original" vampires has returned to New Orleans, where they had long lived. There's the hybrid vampire/werewolf Klaus, who is the mot savage, his brother Elijah, who is more civilized, and usually is seen in nicely tailored suits, and their sister Rebecca, blond, pretty, and ruthless. New Orleans is run by Marcel, an ex-slave who is Klaus's "son" and in love with Rebecca. There are also witches, plotting away in the French Quarter, and a werewolf girl who is pregnant with Klaus's child. Complications abound.

Sounds Anne Rice-ish...?
