Mick hunts down a deadly assassin who targets Beth for execution
"Read it and bow down before me" Beth joked as she laid the newspaper down in front of Mick and Josef.
"Billionaire Playboy found guilty of 7 charges of sexual assault" The head line read.
"Congrats Beth!" Josef said standing up and kissing her cheek.
"Well done babe! All the women in Los Angeles will sleep easy tonight because of you" Mick said.
"He would have gotten away with it too if not for your efforts! Women from around the world were coming together to nail this creep!" Josef said.
"Someone had to do something. No one should be allowed to treat women the way he did. It took all my power to stop myself from draining the ass!" She said.
"Let's celebrate! Dinner and drinks tonight at Pantina!" Josef said.
"Josef, that's so extravagant!" Beth said.
"Well, like L'Oreal you're worth it" He joked.
Anton Mitchell had been confident that no jury in California would ever find him guilty of rape and assault. He had hired the best attorney in the world, had iron clad references from the cream of crop of California's rich and powerful, but it still wasn't enough, although his attorney assured him that he could get the judgment reversed because the Prosecution hadn't proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt, but played on the sympathies of the jurors which were mostly female, but after 5 months, one black eye and three broken ribs later in prison he thought the time had come for something more drastic. He was tired of paying all his money to thugs in the joint for protection. It was time for some payback!
Seven Spaulding was who you called when you really wanted someone dead. This assassin had the skills that no one could compete with. She was able to get in and out without leaving a trace of evidence behind. In fact the only thing she did leave behind was one visibly dead body. He had his best friend make the call and the wire transfer and all he had to do was wait to watch the news.
Kelly DeCarlow was the first for elimination. That little tease shook all that God gave her to make money. So what he got a little handsy, what the hell did she expect? Did she really think that she could wear the clothes that she wore and make men think that she wanted them and then walk away not putting out? If anything, he gave her what she was asking for. And she had the nerve to shed crocodile tears in the courtroom for the TV cameras. Seven took her out in her own car leaving her to bleed out on the side of the road. Next on the list was Rosemary Rubin. That little troublemaker tried to file lawsuit against him until he called in a few favors and by the end of it all, no one believed a single word she said! That slut had to move back home to Denver where she fell from a cliff trying to rock climb. But the one he wanted dead most of all was Beth St. John! That bimbo kept digging into his background and found women he hadn't seen in over 25 years! His attorney said that Beth was responsible for adding a clear pattern to his crimes. Nosy bitch! He couldn't wait for Seven to dispose of her.
Seven looked at the next photo in the file and studied it until the image was burned in her memory. She never thought about the reasons behind a hit job, but this woman must have done something truly awful to have an assassin looking for her and that was enough for her. No one was perfect. She started to read about the woman's family and that gave her a little bit of hesitation. She was a good friend of Josef Kostan and that was definitely a fight that Seven didn't want to get herself involved in. While she was the best at her job, she wasn't foolish enough to get into a tussle with a vampire....she'd save this Beth St. John for last, then she'd disappear like the phantom she was.
Mick read the article and frowned. Three women who had testified against Anton Mitchell were dead and a fourth was missing. Someone was killing all the women associated with this case. He quickly called Carl.
"I know why you're calling" Carl said. "You think someone is going to target Beth" Carl said laying the paper down as he turned to leave for the office.
"You read my mind. Let's meet downstairs" Mick said hanging up. They met in their office on the lobby floor.
"Okay. The first girl Kelly DeCarlow was found on the side of highway 5 with her throat slit. Forensics found no trace of fingerprints and no DNA other than Kelly's so this was a professional hit" Carl said.
"Do you know of any hitmen that work out of Los Angeles?" Mick asked.
"We're looking at out of town talent Mick. Not one of the contract low lives in LA are this good. Hell we might even be looking at overseas talent. Anton Mitchell has billions at his disposal he could have contracted anyone. We need to contact Logan and Lucky as well as Ted and Sam" Carl said. Mick nodded and made the call.
Beth looked quickly behind her. She got the impression that someone was following her. She didn't notice anyone but if they were a pro, she wouldn't see them until it was too late. A gentleman walking behind her tackled her to the ground and a bullet hit a nearby car shattering the glass. Everyone screamed and fell to the ground. Beth pushed the man off of her.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" She said in anger.
"Someone was ready to shoot you! I saw a little red dot dancing on your back so I tackled you." He explained. Beth looked at the shattered glass all around and the police running over to them.
"Mam are you alright? Have you been shot?" One officer asked calling for paramedics. Beth just stood there becoming a little freaked out that someone had just tried to kill her.
Within a few minutes the paramedics were at the scene looking Beth over. They checked her pupils and checked for a pulse. One EMT looked at the other.
"Vampire, I'm afraid" Beth said with a small smile The EMT looked at her with a surprised expression on his face.
"Of course.....you weren't shot, so I guess you're okay" He said putting away him medical equipment.
"Okay Mrs. St John, do you have any idea of who would try and shoot you?" He said handing her back her identification.
"I have no idea whatsoever unless you count Anton Mitchell. I' pretty sure he'd like to see me dead" She replied. The Officer nodded his head. Anton Mitchell had sexually assaulted dozens of women over a 20 year period and Beth was responsible for speaking with and helping all the women who were victims step forward and give their depositions. Without her hard work, Anton would have skated out of court.
"Well, if you tell me where you're parked, I'll follow behind and escort you home" He said.
"Thank you, I'd really appreciate that". Beth said.
Seven surveyed the scene. She never missed her shot! Damn Good Samaritan. Maybe she'd just follow
her home and take her out there. Usually she liked to do her hits in public view because that sent the police in hundreds of directions, but since this man had paid her more than she had ever made for single hit, she would narrow the margins just this one time. She quickly walked to her car and followed them down the streets of Los Angeles. She saw them stop at Kostan Towers. Seven bit her lip. This hit was proving to be very problematic. Kostan Towers was impossible to get into unless you lived or worked there......she took out her mobile and called her assistant.
"What up boss?" He asked.
"Find me any job openings at Kostan Towers" She said as she heard him typing away on his computer.
"They are currently looking for a couple of housekeepers. You want me to send in your entry level resume?"
"Yes. Right away" She said hanging up.
At the end of week, Seven had an interview. She wore a simple pair of black pants and a yellow floral blouse with her hair in a high ponytail. She scrubbed her face free of make-up which she hated doing but she very well couldn't go to an interview at Kostan Towers looking like a goth girl from hell. She glanced in the mirror one final time before grabbing her bag and getting into her car.
"Ms. Cosovoc, thank you for meeting with me on such short notice. We need to fill this position rather quickly" The woman said offering her a seat. "So how familiar are you with Kostan Inc.?" She asked.
"I do not think there is a man, woman or child who does not know the name Josef Kostan" she said with a small smile.
"At Kostan Inc. whether be here at the Kostan Towers or the corporate office we strive to hire the very best no matter what the task at hand. Can you tell me about your working experience?"
"I was born in Romania but moved to the United States when I was 18. I went to Southern California Community College where I study Hospitality Services. I have been working in hospitality since I was wee high. My mother and father owned a small hotel and me and brothers and sisters were the entire staff. I did all the rooms and sometimes helped in the kitchen. After graduation I was hired at the Red Roof Inn and I work there until 2 weeks ago" She said.
"Why did you leave?"
"The manager......well....I felt uncomfortable around him..." She said looking away.
"Unfortunately, that sort of thing happens regularly at most smaller motel chains, but rest assured you will have nothing like that to worry about at Kostan Towers. At times being very pretty can be a curse, especially in Los Angeles" She said nodding her head in understanding the girl's situation. "Let me show you around" She said standing up. Now on our Lobby floor we host a few private businesses that operate 9-5pm hours. I will take you down stairs to see our fitness center". She said. And after one hour they were finally finished with the tour and Seven was both overwhelmed and impressed. "So let's fill out your paperwork and get you your uniform and key cards.
And Seven was all set to quietly end the life of one Beth St. John.
"I was just going to meet with Lisa and Steve to view their new loft" Beth said.
"Then have Steve pick you up and bring you back home" Mick said firmly. "Babe, someone took a shot at you in broad daylight! I don't want you leaving the house until Carl and I find out some more about Anton Mitchell"
"Alright, alright. I'll stay put. Can I at least wonder around the building, maybe see Darrian and Gideon?"
"Sure. But no leaving the building without someone with you!" He said. "Now I'm going to the office to meet Carl and I'll come by for lunch" He finished as he took her in his arms and kissed her. "Lock the door" He said before he shut it. Beth flopped down on the sofa and was already bored.
Carl spoke with a few friends on the force who found out that the only person who visited Anton Mitchell was his Attorney.
"I think we need to find out about this creep. I haven't found a single shady lawyer who was above putting a hit out on someone to save his client"
"I agree, but he's not going to tell us anything if we walk into his office.........but if we...."
"Scare the crap out of him?"
"He might be more inclined to talk".
