“Just don’t tell him we’re doing this.”
So, I’ll lie to Mick tonight, Beth. Again. Sometimes I have to tell him what he wants to hear, instead of the truth. It’s what he requires for his sanity, for his life to go on. And I wonder if he’ll ever figure out the lies, and forgive me for them. But forgiveness doesn’t matter. See, what I know is this: a friend who’s still here, who’s still sane, and angry, is better than one who’s gone. You can get over anger. Death is a little more permanent.
“I can keep a secret.”
