Exclusive: 'Moonlight' vamp Alex O'Loughlin returns to CBS
Finally, I have a bone to throw all you inconsolable Moonlight fans.
The dead drama's central blood sucker, Alex O'Loughlin, is returning to CBS in an upcoming episode of Criminal Minds, sources confirm to me exclusively.
The change-of-pace hour, which is tentatively scheduled to air in April, will track a case from the POV of a serial killer, played by O'Loughlin.
This is O'Loughlin's first leap back into TV since Moonlight was laid to rest nine months ago. At press tour last month, CBS president Nina Tassler -- who signed the Aussie hunk to a development deal in August -- hinted that we may see him back on the network "soon" in a new project.
What say you, Moonlight fans? Happy to see O'Loughlin sinking his teeth into another meaty TV role -- even if he's not literally doing so? Sound off below!

thanks for the link...there are just so many possibilities, but I still think that if CBS stays true to formula, then the spin-off will resemble the current CM, but with a different ensemble cast and a slightly different flavor (note the three CSIs all have different 'feels' to them, but they're basically the same premise.)
If Alex is to be a guest star in the current CM as a serial killer, then the only way I can see him being in a spin off is if his character reforms and wants to help the new unit...but there's a lot that has to happen between the time that the hunted becomes the hunter.
Having a spin off where the lead is law breaking seems a bit of a stretch for network TV.....but there are always possibilities.

I am so hoping that I will be better when Alex is settled in a new show...
...I was (much to my surpirse),...sobbing by the end of Moonlight on SciFi Friday nights....I thought I was doing BETTER, sigh...guess not.....

Very interesting.
The first step is getting Mr O'L. back on tv--which seems to be happening.
Then, after he blows everyone's minds with his talent-- and I hear he is good looking, too--the rest will follow!

dsr, you're probably right. I looked at the date from that article, and it's from July, so a lot could have changed. Still, I admit that it's fun to think about.

You never know what can happen in Hollyweird. Rule nothing out.
I know that I keep referencing it, but Dexter is a hit--he's a serial killer who is redeeming in his own way. There could be some sort of twist on this idea.
Stranger premises have occured, I mean, who would have thought that a private investigator who was a vampire would have caught our fascination the way that it did?

"Alex is playing a killer whose life is unexpectedly changed by an incident, which prompts him to reach out to the BAU team for 'help'."

you beat me to it, I was just going to post this.....So IMO there IS more to this guest spot,Any one else feeling it too.Sorry but after this my hopes for a spin off are way up there!Somebody knock me down a peg or two quick!!!

Not a prayer for dashing your hopes!! this sounds like a way to introduce a new character who what? turns over a new leaf? wants to help the BAU? I don't know, but this is sounding pretty intriguing.
