A moment of everything.

The first time, with Beth, I feel the weight of all that has gone before. We watch, we see, we wait, we know. More than anticipation, heavier than desire, it is the sum of all that has brought us here.

My life, my heart, my soul, on the brink.

Go on. I have to go on. There is no more choice. As my body sinks into hers, she holds me, all of me, the strange landscape of my past, the fearful hope of the present, and all our unwritten futures.

I can breathe again, my love.

Ohhhh so sweet. He can breathe again... figuratively at least. But it probably feels literal to him. I love your MickBeth, ya know. I don't always love the MickBeth, but I love yours...

You describe Mick and Beth's feelings eloquently, Red. Always so eloquently.
I ate that line up. How very true. There are layers of circumstances and events that brought them to this place in time. They and their love is the sum of it all.

Very nice, Red! I loved this line:

It sounds so romantic to me. Mick has truly given himself to Beth.

Sigh...in a single moment all of his hopes, fears, dreams and desire coalesce in the form of the woman loves.....lovely

This is beautiful--and fascinatingly self-absorbed. Mick is thinking pretty much only of himself in this pause... he thinks of Beth in terms of how she relates to him, but not as her own person. I'd love to read one from Beth's POV about the same moment...

Wonderful! You have a way to voice Mick's relationship to Beth in so few words. I agree, there are lines I just want to eat up. This one for example:

So romantic and very Mick/Beth.

I've had the incredible good fortune to be able to tell ms. red how good this is in person, but an iteration of praise ought to be in public for good effect

I love the metaphor here - the idea that Mick has been holding his breath for 20 years resonates with me - everything about that metaphor works - the pressure, the relief, the release. I love that hard.

Another of my favourites is the "strange landscape of my past" line, that paints such a perfect picture of Mick that was before - I see him standing stark against a twisted background and moving toward Beth and her coming to meet him there (I see the hope as her light on the darkened plains).

A very great work here in such a small space.

And yes, the lady can write MickBeth... or anything else she chooses to... Mick whispers to her.

This struck me as to why he's drawn to Beth..not just attraction or hope at a better relationship but,.. acceptance...
..she's always accepted him, though he cannot accept himself..
..as a child she clung to him as he carried her away from the terrifying situation she couldn't understand and home to her mom,
..at the fountain when she looks up at him with a flash of recognition and say's 'Do I know you?' wide eyed and open,
..at his appartment, all shot up by Lee Jay, unable to hide the vampire..'you're not a monster'..'
..on the rooftop after she finds her file...

Acceptance...do we not all long to be loved unconditionally?
