And they saved the best ep so far for my birthday. I loved that ep. Tho what kind of foolish woman would give him up?
The 8 pound 28 week-gestation baby didn't bother me. The various medical slips didn't bother me... but a woman giving HIM up?
Totally unrealistic.
Anyway, they at least tried to show us the personalities and foibles of our doctors this week. Loved it. Wish they'd do more of exactly that. A little peak into the patients, on both sides... the rest, the docs.

LMAO!! I said the SAME THING to myself. If that man killed someone, I'd still be all "Let's go to counseling. We're going to work this out!"
Great episode!! It made me tear up. When David's patient started crying after David said he gave him the flowers...yeah...I lost it.
It had some funny bits, some nail-biter bits, drama and character development. WAHOOO!!

Plus....

This should have been episode one. It was good from a story point. Don't know about facts, just enjoyed the story.
CBS didn't spring for the make-up. Hence the robe.

You know, I had that same thought, but the glimpse of the photo was so brief, I thought 'No way'....now I have to go back and look at the DVD I just burned. I'll let you know.
Liked the episode, thought the bittersweet story of Andy and Rena was very real....but the guitar hero bit didn't do much for me.
Miranda got a great story line with breaking the doctor's nose, but my reaction to Dr. Jordan being in love with Miranda's father seemed to be a bit much....what's the point except to create tension between Miranda and Dr. Jordan?
Daniel's interaction with his patient was great - he really couldn't stand the guy because he couldn't see past the obnoxious persona. Same was true of the patient...he couldn't see past the yuppie doctor image.
ETA: I went back and paused the DVD....the picture of Andy and Rena has Alex with shorter hair, not Mick hair and the shirt has a different pattern than the one in 'Fated to Pretend'

Hmm. It sure looked like the shirt to me, but I'll take your word for it.

Different shirt and different pic... tho close enough one wonders if it were on purpose. But we ML folks gotta get a world view here... for others, it really ISN"T all about Mick, hard as that is to believe. *And I kinda feel sorry for them for that...*
And
carniegal is right... woulda been a far better pilot ep. Tho I guess they hadn't shot this one yet when the pilot went to press? At least maybe it means they are finally figuring out the right balance. Hope it is not too late! Cause they got docs and characters they can work with here... and do some fine things.
Tho Andy... leaving Andy. Who the hell can leave Andy?????

I thought it was a very good episode particularly in terms of Dr. Andy time. In terms of donor stories, I actually liked the football one better. The whole business with the guy in West Virginia cheating on his gun-toting wife and then getting hit by a truck, I could have done without frankly. Reminded me of how elaborate Law and Order is sometimes with its beginnings.
Dr. Andy is so determined to save his patients at all costs. But to save his marriage - he sends his wife a text. That doesn't seem in character to me. Why not pick up the phone? Why give up so quickly? Also in terms of the chemistry between Andy and Rena, I guess I am one of the few who didn't really see it. Yes the words were there, but I just couldn't feel the love and the heat like when Mick and Beth were together. I know I shouldn't compare, but I can't help it.
I enjoyed seeing Alex's bare chest although it would have been nice to skip the robe. And I enjoyed seeing him play the guitar and dance a little bit. But all told, for me the magic just isn't there. If I force it, maybe, but I am just not feeling it. And all the time being spent on surgery - well that I can definitely do without.
Still continuing to watch and DVR it, but I wish I could really start to feel more than I am feeling.
Edited to add - The part with Dr. Daniel bringing flowers to that disagreeable patient was a nice touch.

Sleepy Andy waking up with that VOICE.

And the sad little smile when he tells Kuol he doesn't think he has a wife any more.
Loved the rest of the ep but that scene at the end. Oh my...

Interesting - both that CBS is getting this directly involved in production AND that they're maybe trying to cut costs??? Where did you hear this,
carniegal? Any more info on CBS's influence?

Best episode by far. I laughed, I cried, I was entertained. Wish it was the first episode. I hope a large audience tuned in. Of course there was the World Series game this time on the East Coast.

I agree with MLSonata, I didn't see any chemistry between the two either...I know, I know...it's early days yet, but the Rena character just didn't seem to have much in the way of personality going for her, or maybe it's because Alex makes his character shine so brightly....
That said, I
am glad that the writers are finally giving us a little more depth to Dr Andy

I'm actually happy that Three Rivers doesn't have a Moonlight feel to its relationships. If it did, I have a feeling that I'd feel worse... because it would almost be like they were trying to duplicate Moonlight. Instead, I can appreciate it as a completely different show. I think you have to just try to appreciate it for what it is, Moonlightsonata. And if you can't, then there's no shame in that. It's not your cup of tea. You don't have to love every role Alex plays or every show he's in.
I liked this episode in general. I think the thing about Andy texting Rena was done to show the disconnect between them. Also, a cop wouldn't have her phone on all the time. That makes sense to me - he'd text her because then she'd get it when she had time. And he probably asked her to call him, but you know how that goes... she's probably sick of calling him and going to voice mail, too.
As she said - they don't have a home together. He lives at the hospital and she lives at the precinct. Neither of them is willing to give up what they do.
I agree that I didn't see a lot of chemistry between Andy and Rena. They played it very uncomfortable - as if there was such a wall between them that it wasn't breachable. Comparing this relationship that failed with the one between Mick and Beth doesn't make sense to me. Both couples are separated by a wall or a gulf, but Mick and Beth are really in the beginning of theirs. They're looking for ways to breach that wall. Andy and Rena have failed to breach the wall. There's a desperation in Andy's attitude toward their relationship. Not a feeling of hope.
But their kiss was very sweet. Sweet and sad.
The Rock Band scenes were kind of fun, but I think they were just excuses for eye candy, and maybe an attempt to show Andy bonding with Kuol. It was fun to see Alex holding a guitar, but I'd love to see him play a real one.
