TV Guide magazine has a brief interview with Les Moonves about Alex's future.
If you're feeling in the mood to be irritated, um, don't read it as CBS's esteemed leader calls Moonlight "Moonlighting".

And I'm sure Alex will be
thrilled at the level of devotion he inspires in middle-aged network execs...

Gah!! Out of respect for my fellow board members, I will leave it at that (though what I'd really like to say couldn't be put in print.)
Am I incorrect in interpreting that Alex is being viewed as a piece of meat and nothing more? In the family? As what ?? GAH!!!

I swear to Holy Bob - is Alex EVER going to get any credit for having TALENT as well as a nice physique?
What absolutely SLAYS me is if that type of comment was made about Jennifer Lopez ("she's going to spend half the movie with her shirt off"), women would be screaming for Moonves' head at the top of their lungs.

I have to agree. Best to say nothing if you can't say something positive, and my responses are all so VERY not positive.
My most printable one is, "Les Moonves is a twit."

If that is the kind of respect Moonves shows "family" members, I'd hate to be related to him.

Well, let me just comment that Moonves is certainly living right up to my previous opinion of him.
Take that as you will.

I think Matthew turned himself into Matthew McConaughey

... and FWIW, inappropriate executive commentary aside, 3R did NOT treat Alex like Matthew. Andy was a sincere, not sexy, role. For better or worse...
None of which is to defend Moonves. I agree with
Alle's assesment. Twit is a pretty accurate word. Doesn't know the name of Moonlight? Oh I bet he does, if not due to the many hundreds of letters his assistants read on his behalf, then at least because the Bruce Willis vehicle was on another network, was it not? He did that on purpose. To what end, I got no clue. Same reason, I suspect, that his wife appeared on Craig Ferguson on the same night Sophia did, and proceeded to go on and on about how she hates vampires. They are a twisted couple, it seems.
Now I think he does see Alex as a bankable star, he just doesn't appreciate the reason why... and it's not the shirtless part. But kinda explains the tone deaf way in which they promoted 3R doesn't it? All the commercials with the super Alex close ups and the "move over McDreamy" tag lines and putting him in those painted on scrubs in the pilot. I don't think Les has ever bothered to watch Alex act,
Pgal... I'm guessing that's part of the problem. Sigh.
Tho as stoopid as Les sounds, wouldn't ya know a few of those commenters managed to lower the conversation's IQ average even further...

Gosh!
Honestly , treating ALO as a piece of meat instead as someone that can act is not something I would expect from someone's family. I think is diminished. Although I know Hollywood is about selling "hot bodies" all the time , so maybe ALO is happy with his career going that way. A lot of actors are.
I remember before 3R premiered , one day they were talking about the importance of organ donation and how medical accurate the show was , and next day CBS did comments like "the cute vampire guy is there" and they took that pictures with him with a red painted heart in his chest and a heart ...
And the Moonlighting comment . Totally on purpose...Well, I am just going to keep my mouth closed.

I had the privilege of chatting with a friend of Les' life long friend on another ML board. Les very well knows who Alex is but I'm not sure how highly he thinks of him. He's not the type to admit it if he does. And awhile back he didn't want to hear the name "Moonlight" again. Now he's calling it Moonlighting. I'm torn if the misspeaking was on purpose or not. I think it's a case of not being that in tune with it, not paying attention. I think he just misspoke. I think Les is a rough-around-the-edges type person who has some talent for wheeling and dealing his way to the top. I think he COULD be so vindictive to purposely misstate the name and to taunt fans but in this case I don't think he would do that. He has much bigger fish to fry. Because lots of people have misstated Moonlight for Moonlighting. He is not the first. This is only my opinion, of course.

What bothers me here is the way Les refers to Alex. It's all those bad 'd' words - derogatory, demeaning, disrespectful. Les is the big boss and he sounds like he thinks the key to Alex's success is losing the shirt. If Alex chooses to market himself that way, then it's his decision. I just would hate to have TPTB push him into that box because I think he's too good an actor for those limitations.
