A drabble from a memorable scene in "Fated to Pretend"--
Waking Up Mortal
I remember this. When waking up didn’t mean brushing off frost, didn’t mean being suddenly conscious in a cold box. Reaching out for the alarm, stretching a hand out from under a blanket, warm with the heat of your body. Man, it’s heaven. I didn’t know how much I’d missed it, how much I’d forgotten the bliss of it, lingering a few more minutes in the soft warmth of a bed. I know it’s temporary, I know it won’t last. Maybe, before I change back, I’ll find out…maybe once…what it’s like to wake up next to a woman I love.

it's the little things you don't appreciate 'til there gone, but it's the important ones that cause you to ache...how I wish we could have seen Mick get his wish....
thanks Lucky!

It's so sad that Mick didn't get to experience that. It makes you realize what's important.

It's hard to pick a favorite from all the wonderful things you've written, dear Lucky. But I believe this might just be my favorite. In this little gem you have captured all of Mick's wistfulness, his sensory joy, his wonder and appreciation of the experience of living. And his fragile hope... which, of course, makes me weep, because I know he won't get his wish.
It's perfect that this piece is a drabble. "Like they say - life is short."

Lovely Lucky!

As has been said, bittersweet.
He might not have got his secret wish on screen, but thats where our wonderful fanfic writers come in!
Mick's (and our) secret wishes fulfilled!

I LOVE fanfic!

I know that you prefer to write for Josef but when you do write Mick, you do it well lady.
Everyone of us loved that scene. You thankfully gave it voice.

Ah! Beautiful, sad... he had forgotten what it is to wake up from a human sleep... and he never got to sleep with the girl... just a lovely drabble, Lucky.

Thanks..I have always been struck by how darn cozy he looks as he wakes up. Especially after that shot of him looking at the freezer in TMC.

What about the shot of him waking up on the sofa? The lighting was fantastic in that shot.
